Skiing will always be 5 years behind snowboarding

some people just want to watch the world burn....

I think the idea of free(freedom,being free) is that its draws from everything and anything and transitions/ evolves into anything and everything(really not a good explanation, im kinda out of it -__-). Sorta like our melting pot of a country ey? Thus, this whole silly argument is just that, a rabble rousing middle of the summer phase, of time and space. Probably not very applicable down the road any length of time....

I also agree with someone on the previous page as to an idea that freeskiings' growth is exponential! (not sure how correct that is) But it's a good estimate from being aware on the mountain... Theres always those same constant snowboarders, but always new faces rocking two planks.

Also ,while typing this, the question arose in my mind as to why/what/how do we define "free"snowboarding/"free"skateboarding and what are the differences...will freeskiing eventually dissolve into a whole category of just skiing(we never use the term free in front of skate/snowboarding)?!?!?!?

butters were huge a LONG time ago in snowboarding.. like, year and years and years ago

nothing even approaching the sickness of what goes down nowadays of course but yeah
 
One thing that snowboarding will never have is rotations off of rails, I can't say that I have ever seen a snowboarder rotate more than 260 off of a box or rail, whereas skiers will frequently rotate twice that, It just shows that both sports are subtly evolving into their own things.
 
I was really hoping to see one in 2013, but it didnt happen. Im sure its gonna happen in the next few years though, maybe even in this coming season.
 
I don't wana make it sound like it's any "cooler" to ski/ride without a helmet but holy fuck triple corks with a beanie and goggles
 
Guys if you haven't noticed the two sports go back and forth for example i'll use the triple cork. Torstein Horgmo was the first person to do one in competition and the next year Henrik Harlau stepped it up one (or like 15) with his nose butter triple cork 1440. The two sports almost feed off each other because you cant be a good skier and watch only ski edits because then everyone would just have the same style and that would make a pretty lame ski scene. Like wise you cant be a good snow boarder and only pay attention to snowboarding. They pretty much inspire each other and push snow boarding and skiing into more technical tricks. Hoji pretty much does this too. Hes not AS styley, but he is definatley just as fluid on lines that are just as high consequence.
 
Stupidest thread ever. Skiing is skiing and is not and will never be snowboarding. If you want to be snowboarding so much, go buy one and switch sports.

Skiing hasnt had the opportunity to evolve at the same time as snowboarding. back then, terrain parks were all snowboarders, the shit has been around for a while. I think we've done pretty damn good going from doubles being thrown to triples going down in like what? 5 years? And snowboarders havent got shit on rails, WAY behind.

So you know what, if you think skiing is 5 years behind snowboarding, its probably because there are 5 big black dudes behind your mom right now isnt it? Suck a dick OP.

In park and urban perhaps. Skiing is not behind in terms of big mountain. Just watch video of the Bec De Ross from the Freeride World Tour for examples.
 
I would compare JJ to Sage.

What JJ does is insane, and I would say that in terms of riding spine walls he is ahead of anyone. There are other elements of big mountain riding than just spine walls. JJ is insane though, I would never put him down.

In general, there are more great big mountain skiers than snowboarders. When I lived at Squaw I would say that 80% of the guys really throwing down in the Palisades were skiers.

I don't want to put snowboarding down, there is no need for that stuff from either side of the aisle.
