Skiing tomorrow NE?

not in regionals
there is a winter storm watch for elevations above 2000' tomorrow in the new york, vt, ma, ct area tomorrow, think anywhere will be skiiable? it's pissing rain outside my door right now and i'm in southern ny

Here's the lowdown right now.

Northern VT will be the better bet than Southern. NWS-Albany issued a winter storm watch while NWS-Burlington held off. The Burlington office does not issue storm watches or warnings for elevation only events.

Current reports at Killington have 4 inches already on the ground at the peak, at 4,200'. Snow level seems to be around 3,000 feet currently and it's 34 degrees and rain at K-1 base which is at 2,500'. Snow levels should be dropping throughout the day.

As far as ripping turns, wait it out until Saturday, let the snow pile up and then be prepared to hike to the highest elevations. Stick to the mountains that you can spend time above 3,000 feet. So you're talking Killington, Sugarbush, Stowe, Smuggs. Looking at picking up around a foot or more of heavy wet snow when all is said and done.

shocking that i fly in from alta to vt on saturday and its like 60 here and it hasnt snowed. maybe ill be up at smuggs on borrowed gear!

enjoy!

I am so stoked to RIP TURNS

I was thinking about driving up tonight considering how fast it's accumulating.

I love the early season stoke

Looks like Killington was blessed with the earliest changeover to snow. The Weather Channel had their guy up in Stowe at 2200' and it was just starting to change to snow there around 10am. It was accumulating decently at Killington already at that point all the way down to nearly 1500'.

I very well may be earning some turns tomorrow morning at Killington at the rate things are going right now.

Also, as of 10am, Killington has logged 8 inches at the top at 4200' and 3" at K-1 Lodge at 2500'.

Coming down hard still for the rest of the afternoon.

Technically, there is already a few inches on the ground at K-1 Lodge. Problem is, the ground is very warm and the snow will be melting from the ground up as it piles up this afternoon and tonight.

Even at the higher elevations, don't expect powder either. It's going to be slop on slop and you'll be hiking to around the 3000' elevation to see the higher accumulations.

I'd estimate about an hour of hiking. This all depends on how much snow accumulates down low too. More down low will make hiking more difficult while you'll still need to get up to around 3,000' to get to halfway decent snow.

just finished packing, ready to start my 3 HR drive to k-mart
SkierX, i'll be camping overnight, I drive a little red 4 banger subaru impreza coupe, hit me up and we will earn some turns, if you go through with it of course.

Haven't locked anything down, but I'll look for ya out there if I do end up heading up that way.

yea sounds like a lot of work for nothing good. Thanks for the info!

doubt im gonna bother tho. I waited this long might as well wait for better snow.

Its a La Nina year for the west Meaning we won't get a lot of early season snow. Shit should start picking up tremendously around late November well into April.

Yo i'm in upstate new york and there's like 2 or 3 inches on the ground right now i'm going to hike Whiteface tomorrow i'll take some pictures should be a bunch of snow up there. SOOOOO STOKED!

Can't be any thicker than that storm last February. I have a picture on my phone of me standing in the woods. I'm on top of the snow, and I jabbed my ski pole and it went down to the handle.

soo stokeddd. theres definitely enough snow to ski at least half way down right now. maybe we'll get more tonight though but i'll check it out tomorrow

damn i have to work tomorrow!!!! sunday possibly if theres anything left ill definatly hit up killington or whiteface.

Hard to call. I originally liked the weather for the upcoming week for snowmaking production as we were looking at favorable temperatures at night in the low 20s, but now I'm not entirely certain as it looks as if there may be a relatively higher amount of humidity present which makes snow production much more fickle.

Once they fire up the guns for go-time, there will be a better idea. They will be opening as soon as they realistically can. Weather is the deciding factor for sure.

its kinda weird, seeing as its not officially Fall yet (correct?). Not that I'm complaining! What would you guys do if it snowed a foot in your backyard right now? I wouldn't even ski on it at first... I'd roll around in it, eat it, smell it... omg

top of mount mansfield ended up with 20 inches and jay got a foot. its still kinda snowing at the top of mount mansfield right now thinking about heading up tomorrow and see if i can get some turns in. I also heard about jay unofficially opening for a day and running one lift for pre season.

well, I ended up going and hiking when I got there at 6 pm last night
snow was extremely heavy but deep as fuck, easily 4+ feet of windblown on the cat tracks etc

ended up breaking my boot and leaving last night.... got a UPM on the way home
cool fucking story bro
