Skiing still behind snowboarding?

watching all the teasers for this years ski movies had me pumped for the progression of the sport...i kind of thought that we were catching up to snowboarding in teh creatvity of the things we do...but i think i have been totally wrong..yes we made great rogression...but watching teh DC mtn.lab video made me see we still have a long way to go

 
we definitely have a long long way to go, but skiing is blowing up bigtime. I dont think it will ever be as big as snowboarding, but the shit we can do on skis is just another total style compared to snowboarding.

Our sport will get major when we have like an Armada mountain lab, when you have something discrete that we can call our own and create terrain that no one thought of

skiing is cathing up, fair does snowboarding is ahead, but i dont see how it has hugely progressed over the last few years, a few years ago evry one was doing daffys n twister spreads, now people are trying switch 1440s? thats rapid progression, a few years n well hav caught up

haha. i cant believe it took the mtn lab video to open some eyes when snowboarding has been on an espcially impressive level the past 3 seasons. we dont have as many quality riders, most of the skiing companies are weak and uncreative run by a bunch of butt fucks who have no idea what they are doing, we havent had as long to develop the level of confidence and style in the riding which should hopefully come in 3 or 4 more seasons. for christ sakes the mtn lab map has a no skier sign on the 'main lodge'. sorry guys but we dont deserve something like that place yet. in due time, snowboarding waited a long time to get to the level that it is @ now. jsut be patient.

 
Its true that there are a lot more snowboarders than skiers especially in the park. i'm 25 so I've seen this happen over the past 10 years. However, whenever I see a kid with twintips and an oakley bear suit pointing at a jump there's a really good chance that something sick is about to happen. I don't even bother watching snowboarders in the park because most of the time they just straight air the jumps or don't even hit them at all. The point is that most people who are into freestyle skiing have at least some skills to backup their image whereas snowboarding is not that way at all. But maybe once newschooling become more mainstream there will be a lot of gapers diluting the image..

nah seriously though it just takes the cool ass dudes in this sport to bring it to a new level. Like the man said above theres to many clowns who don't know what they are doing, but at the same time there def is alot who do

What is so great about the mtn.lab video? Sure its a sick setup, but that's all it is. If a ski company had the same vision and resources, we could have the same thing. The only way it shows we are behind snowboarding is with strong company backing and money.

all my snowboarding freinds prefer watching some ski movies over board because skiers go bigger..; the snowboard movies have been super artsy lately, so..... i think progress has been huge, i remember wearing bright orange and purple and now look.

 
umm ... skiing has been going off for decades

in the 70s tons of teenagers and young guns moved to mountain towns to ski bum and hot dog...they partied their asses off, did tons of blow, smoked bad weed and skied every day, spinning, flipping and hucking...we are only great because we stand on the shoulders of giants

snowboarding has more people. ritcher companys. and more time than skiing. but. skiing can follow on the tail end of snowboarding, cause if they progress the parks for snowboarders, skiers ski in the same park, so yeah... we should be able to progress faster...

Ive been skiing parks ever since they were built, and i'm sure there are tons of other guys/girls on this sight that did the same. I remember trying to land 180s before twin tips came out. Good shit.

 
but the question remains. Will skiing ever catch up to itself back in the hayday of skiing in the 70's and 80's

We may have progressed alot in the last ten years but our numbers are still smaller then in the golden years.

park skiing just really blew up a couple years ago and we are already nipping at the heels of a sport that has been about style and tricks from its beginning. Big Mountain skiing, in addition, has and will always be way sicker on film. I can't beleive I feel like the only person defending our sport in this thread. Are you all a bunch of one plankers after all?

i heard it best described by a snowboard on tv. he said "everyones to the point that we all do the same tricks, now everyones about style." and he was speaking about snowboarding in like 98 or earlier. i see skiing as just reaching this point now, everyone has their own nice style but thats why your pro. there are so many snowboards who can do so many more tricks so many more ways then we have. but maybe because theres less skiers riding then snowboarders, now thats changing tho.

of course everythigns about style. everyone can do the same tricks. but not everyoen can look the same doing them. which is frigging amazing. its what seperates awesomeness from complete shit.

I ski mostly park and mostly BC and mostly groomers so 50 % park 50% groomers and 50 % pow. what shoudl i do . I hear that the chronic minis kill it in pow,,,, what should i get ?- calskierx

I agree snowboarding is better and skiings behind snowboarding but skiing is still cool I mean there both similar and we all just want to ride the mountain
 
regaurdless of what a snowboarder throws 99 times out of 100 it still looks cooler on skis. So thats one thing snowboarders will never have.
 
The thing is, you have to see people like me who are snowboarders trying to become skiiers.So if you look at it like i am, somewhat the snowboard population is losing one and the skiing community is gaining me.Although im not shreading nasty or anything but im havin fun.More people like me will see the park skiers just slam some style in there tricks so much more then snowboarders can and they will soon switch like me
