Skiing should be more like snowboarding

before everyone hates on me please read what im saying. the one aspect of snowboarding that i love is the way teams from big companies come together and film edits at the end of the year like the transworld team shoot out. these are fun events where all the teams make videos. i think it would be awesome to see something like this in skiing, almost a JOSS style event but it is based on major sponsor like skis or outerwear. most snowboard film companies are based around a major sponsor and i think it would be awesome to see more of this in skiing.

really?
Cause in the spring, I see events like this all the time.
They just aren't as big cause freestyle skiing in the under 26 range isn't as big as snowboarding.
55% of skiers are under 34... 84.3% of snowboarders are under 34.... given, there are more skiers than snowboarders, but the "newschool" world is significantly smaller. (SIA statistics)
But they still do plenty of events for us.

So what you are saying really is that our community should grow to the popularity of snowboarding so our events can be as big.

no im saying more events and edits like orage masters that bring teams together not just skiers, i enjoyed watching the jiberish video and i would like to see more movies like that

Give it a few years... I'm sure this will start to happen. With most things in the ski industry we end up following whatever snowboarding did, but a few years later.

Of course, there always is the argument that simply following snowboarding isn't the right idea...

Its sounds like skiing should'nt be like snowboarding, skiing should just have one event of all pros gathered to make one big edit like snowboarding...

How is that a good thing (and by the way it is already true to a large extent). What you are talking about is having skiing be completely organized around advertising. To me, that is a negative. I want to watch a video because it has a bunch of riders I like, not because they are all sponsored by oakley (even though 1242 was sick).

I also think in some ways skiing would benefit from being more like snowboarding. I love Isenseven snowboard films because they are real good fun films. Some ski films do this a bit but I think that lots of ski films could do with just being a lot less serious. Im not saying that they all should be but in my opinion it would be good.

the skiing world puts out like four times as many edits a year as snowboarding. plus they have JOSS, nine nights, superunknown, travelling circus, all those different things doing shit and giving media coverage to riders. plus you guys have smaller independent people like eheath with clownschool and all the pro riders make self edits and shit.

snowboarding has like... superpark, the launch, TSO, and thats it. none of the other cool shit. i dunno, maybe its because i am a snowboarder and im just jealous, but i always feel like skiing puts out way more cool shit than snowboarding.

It was a one year thing I think but Atomic made a team vid a few years ago, 44 Days. Anyone else still watch it from time to time? I love it.

Great music, great footy. I especially loved the shovel fight, I thought that was pretty original and fun. That last pow segment reminds me of how lucky I am to live in Utah.

You want team videos?

4frnt makes team edits, Volkl makes team movies that they put to DVD nearly every year, Jiberish obviously made their movie, Atomic makes team videos, Boone makes team edits, 9thward makes team edits, Moment makes team edits...

Why do we need to have all these companies compete when we already have an event like the Orage Masters?

bishop makes a good point. the hip newschool ski scene is copied in part from snowboarding. But skiing was around long before snowboarding so some aspects of snowboarding were adopted from skiing
