Skiing reaching new markets

Outside Europe, the U.S. and Canada, there aren't many marquee ski events. Would countries like Japan, China and Korea hosting more high-level comps expose skiing to broader markets and generate a greater dearth of ski enthusiasts? We have an increasing number of lesser involved areas, especially in east Asia, being featured in ski films. I think the next step is to get them more involved in competition. I mean, these are really short and flexible people, so skiing is right up their alley. It's not like they'll ever be that prevalent in team sports or sports where size is an advantage.

new zealand has become the "summer" playground for skiers from the northern hemisphere. armada goes there every year to test their new gear and do team shoots.

I started to type an actual response, but just gave up as you no doubt would not have bothered to take the minute needed to inform yourself.

Truth is that all asians are such bad drivers that none of them can make it to the mountains to ski.

bobby brown, strenio, wallisch, andreas and such tower over most others in the park, but they're not even super tall. bottom line is, if there's a category of sport for smaller people, it's action sports, which include skiing

that's true, but nz doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves because it's in the southern hemisphere. asia's winter coincides with most others (and most strong economies)

it's not that 6'2" isn't tall, it's that there are more smaller athletes in skiing and similar sports (i mentioned action sports as a general category which still applies). sports like soccer, baseball, hockey, basketball, football, i mean, not only do you have really tall dudes all over the place, but they're like freagin heavy. skiing is about being agile. there's no contact and group element to it (by group, i mean a bunch of people competing in contact with eachother). even individual sports like running, swimming, track and field, the bigger or taller u r, the better off u r. i think there is a multitude of examples to support that skiing, along with similar action sports, is a better sport for the lighter body type than the traditional popular sports.

ur a douchebag. that was mad low. he was making a comment about driving. then u go about hoping he has a bad life after life. thats wut usually is construed at eternity. for a freagin comment. u r overreacting, or i am overreacting, but i think its u whos overreacting

Are you mental? Japan has some of the best powder on Earth. Part of Russia is in Japan and they definitely have snow. Have you even seen any recent ski films? Work It Out featured a Japan segment. That's the only one that comes to mind but there are others. Actually, I'm questioning whether or not you have ever looked at map of the world.

are you trying to say that they dont have snow because they are an island?

or was that about the part about russia? either way... Japan is an island and is not a part of russia, nor is russia a part of japan. But Japan does have sick ass skiing and the market is blowing up in asia right now.

yeah asias gonna b so blown up one day theyre gonna start makin jokes bout americans havin small weiners. lil do they kno we have a large population of native and african americans, freakin big dudes

Russia is not in japan. There is a large ski community in 5 of 7 continents. Asia is currently the fastest growing market. Winter olympics will be in russia. Thats in asia. Thats a pretty big competition. This thread makes me sad.

Property value in the small ski town of Hirafu in Niseko, Japan has grown more in the past 3 years than any other place in the whole of Japan... So yes, its 'blowing up' over there
