Skiing pros... unprofessional?

yeah i agree with you to an extent. but i dont know of too many companies that would do that in my experience but yeah. and people tend to be pretty stoked when kids want there autograph, so they arent gonna be assholes to them no matter how much they hate haha. i agree with you though, dont think im hating! HAHA

just because a person becomes pro doesnt mean he should stop getting outta control with their friends at places boozing up and have a good time doing it. they are not suit and tie guys. you cant ask for them to change who they are, its FREEskiing, and we are freeskiers because we decided to get away from the racing or bumping side of things where everyone has to act a certain way, be on a ski team, or ski a certain style. Freeskiers just like any other sport are suppose to be on the rebellious side of things having fun in the ways they chose.. look at skateboarding, look at bam. does he act professional?

im not talking about any of these aspects of the sport, i realize it will always be a sort of "counter culture" or whatever you want to call it. and cosco does raise a good point that K2 did support it. idk it just seems bizzare to me that that would be acceptable to them. i would expect it out of steroid dropping mainstream professional athletes, but i would expect more support out of a sport like us.

I understand that athletes will always have an opinion on different styles, but i would rather see it said in a more constructive way, if that makes any sense. Just less.. idk calling out

taken from what casual said in the jacob wester thread, and precisely what im talking about

to hate on ride away or some particular style is one thing. To call someone out personally is classless. To do so on a business site whose sole purpose is to market product, is toolerific. Jacob is a successful pro...not some bitter kid on NS despite what his emo haircut and trendy favorite bands might suggest.

You really cant compare the olympics with the x-games. Even swimming gets like one hundred billion million viewers and just think how many people watch swimming in other events. Not that many. If theres a sport in the olympics people will automatically watch it even though they wouldnt have ver heard of it. Olympics are also aired in so many more countries and tv-stations. I bet that skiing halfpipe would get at least 10 or 15 million viewers if it was on the olympics.

I know that that^^ wasnt really your point in your post but i just felt like writing something even though it probably doesnt maky any sense or change anything.

i know exactly what your saying... i actually typed what i typed knowing that... but i was just trying to prove my point a little more...

at least our beefs are staying on our message boards....anyone watch the stuff that happened at the maloof money cup? corey duffel and beagle had been beefing, duffel's signing autographs on top of a quarterpipe, and beagle snatches him off, and starts wailing punches at him. the event was sponsored by MALOOF! (owners of the palms casion, theyre some rich niggas). it was the highest paid event in skateboarding history, and beagle, in front of all of skateboarding starts hitting duffel. duffel even refered to stevie williams as a nigger in an interview in slap.

and to cedric...the reason we dont have the same money that other sports do is because of the age of our sport. we're the baby of all other succesful "action" sports. where skateboarding has been around for 40+ years, we have just seen our birth within the last decade. the z-boys didnt have multi million dollar contracts while they were throwing front carves on banks, and our pros werent thrown millions for their first couple of iron cross 3's. skateboarding didnt see wide success until its third decade, and to be honest, i like skiing the way it is. id much rather have things the way they are than to see h.i.m. all over a bunch of ski boots at journeys.

at the end of the day, kids are kids. while it would be nice to see ahmet or laurent driving around in brand new bmw's, the kids are skiing to ski. we ski because we love it, the lifestyle supporting it, and the ups and downs that come with it. there arent kids waking up when theyre 7 and begging their parents for a ride to the mountain just so they can make money some day. they do it because they love it. those lucky enough and DRIVEN enough to have thet talent to seperate from the masses are just that. lucky and driven. every skier does not and can not be a perfect ambassador for our sport. each team, and every individual is that, an individual. every sport has duffel/beagles, every sport has their tanner/jon's, and every sport embraces all athletes associated with the sport they love. hate the style or love it, at the end of the day, its all love.

stop taking everything soooooo fucking serious guys.
