Skiing pros... unprofessional?

It just seems like even the pros in this sport are hating on the styles of other skiers, and thats something you don't see in any other sport, really.

idk it just seems to be more out in the open in this sport. like say skateboarding people may hate on say, shrink wrapped jeans. but they dont hate on specific people as much

There are many more reason why skiing pros are not that prfessionnal.

Some are really good at representing the company they ride for while some other are doing a terrible job. Maybe if everyone would work their ass off and act like they would do in a regular job the ski industy andthe sponsorship scene would be much different today.

All sports talk crap. Look at that swimmer, and that was in the fucking olympics. He said he was gonna smash the americans, that is pretty much a big bash on our team, and the olympics are supposed to be way better than that.

thats exactly what im talking about. it makes me lose alot of respect for athletes that arent acting professional. any other sport thats a very rare occurrence. and to the guy talking about the olypics, yeah that happens but its rare. it happens all the time in skiing. why is that still considered acceptable

i realize it happens, but it seems less frequent. take skateboarding for example. with the exception of the occasional popup (sheckler) its pretty chill and people are pretty accepting. i guess it just goes to show how much more skiing has to grow.

they are professional skiers whos job is to represent their companies in a respectable manner. something that some pros dont seem to be doing. its a job no different than anyone else.

i realize sports like that it happens. i was more speaking the action sports community where people seem to have more respect to each other, and are stoked for each other when someone wins or progresses the sport, regardless of whether or not it fits their "mould" of style. which comes to the general single mindedness of skiing but thats a whole nother thread....

verytrue theya rnt getting paid millions of dollars like soccer players also they are not in the spotlight so the publicity is less

and plus skiing is a super lax sport to begin with

This sport is going is so many different directions right now, so its only naturally for the pioneers of the different styles to disagree on which way is the right way.

its done all the time in all sports, professional or not. and it happens in skateboarding alot too. hesh kids rip on hiphop kids, and vice versa. and everyone rips on shaun white. and when your business is image, which is what pro skiers are in the business of, sometimes your business includes rivalries, which includes trash talking and truthful/unfriendly opinions.

i think it should be a rule that if you are a pro skier in the industry, and you talk shit about another skier, the beef is declared unsettled, and a cage match MUST be fought between the conflicting parties to settle the beef.

You just called an opinion "wrong".

A lot of really good skiers go pro regardless of if they talk shit, or how they represent themselves. Look at the biggest, most popular skiers (Tanner). Doesn't give a shit, and used to talk shit on lots of people, and get into trouble.... then he started making millions.

And some people think it doesn't happens in other sports, but how closely do you follow those other sports. Do you spend hours a day reading forums and interviews about them to see what people have said?

does anyone else think that this could be related to why halfpipe skiing is having such difficulty getting into the olymics,at least part of it?

This is exactly why there isnt that much money involved in professionnal freeskiing.

Unless you got the raw talent and the attitude to get out there and win everything, you wont be making money without tkaing this sport as a job in some kind of way and trying to do your best to live from it.

im pretty sure peps more worried about having fun then you guys all crying about him hating on gagniers ugly ass one footers

I don´t hate on tanner but first he is not makin MILLIONS and second I think he is a badass skier but his whole behaviour like acting like a 12 year old stoned kid is one reason for it that skiing isnt in the olympics. If I would be a FIS guy and would see Tanner as the best athlete in skiing pipe, hanging around smokin blunts and stuff I also wouldn´t think that it is good that our sport goes olympic.

I know how he loves the sport but those FIS nerds can not imagine this love, they can only see the behaviour of its athletes.

first off... im sure tanner has mad over a million dollars.... come on... redbull?.... and i think you trying to relate tanners "attitude" to skiing halfpipe not being in the olympics is fairly naive... i mean come on... there was nobody more "thugged out" and blunted as snowboarders were when they were accepted in... dont you remember how us skiers took all that style and attitude from them?... it has nothing to do with how people represent our sport, it has to do with money... and right now we dont have a big enough audience (last olympics over 20 million people watched snowboarding halfpipe... last X-games only 1 million viewers for skiers halfpipe) not to mention that a lot of it has to do with most of the FIS assholes being way to traditionalistic... i mean skiercross still isnt an event when boardercross is... that doesnt make any sense either...

but back to op.. i think that skiers need that attitude and the shit-talking so that we get people pushing themselves and each other.. and whomever stated that a bunch of next level riders that are all doing new shit that all have different styles are undoubtedly gonna hate on each other a little... i mean im sure that there's plenty of big name pros out there that have a lot to say about toms style and the way he skis... but this is what will get those same athletes out there working harder and better to find and have a style that noones seen and dial tricks that noone else has.

oh and to add to my thoughts on the FIS assholes... i forget to mention that they still neglect to accept womens long jump... which i think is stupid (women are going just as far as men are now, some of them even farther) and they claim that their reasoning behind not letting them compete is that its "to dangerous"... what kind of fucking douche bags are these guys?

i always saw skiing as the one sport where everyone supports eachother
yeah so people have diff style and they point that out but they arent trying to like trash anyone, only help

if you recall at the OLYMPICS, yes the olympics the french 4 X 100m freestyle relay team said they were going to smash the americans. was that shit talking?

no matter what at least a few people in any given sport will be shit talking, and in skiing i'd say there's some MORE shit talking to be done..

there are two types of skiing pros, the ones that flip through redbull rings of fire for money, and the ones that try to make the skiing they like redefine professional skiing (which in its current state is like a evel knievel show).

Skiing at this point is so backwards that when legitimate skiing pros raise concerns about where the sport is going they get shitted on. everything that isnt a neon print multi slowmo high def spinny flip is getting shitted on.

and the industry has the nerve to call ns haters while shitting on pretty much everything good that has attempted to surface in skiing for the last 5 years.

what im trying to say is, the pros are unprofessional cause freestyle skiing decided to become professional in its mannerisims, and in doing so lost alot of backing including that of people on their payrolls NAW MEAN

Well in comparison to 'professional level team sports', where athletes are out doping up on steroids, having sex with their underage drunk teenage daughter's friend, lying under oath to Congressional Investigation committees, raping women, carrying guns, getting shot with their posses in strip clubs, running underground dog fighting and gambling circuits and killing said dogs through electrocution, I think the current crop of skiing pros are doing just fine.

Thats because we have a whole site that basically anybody who is a "freestyle skier" uses. So its bound that style will be disputed between people on here.

i disagree...a lot of my friends are pro skiers (CLAIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) some just breaking out and some at the top of the game, and i dont agree with anyone hating on anyone in particular, but fuck man, they are jsut people that love skiing like you do. when you get a sponsor that doesnt mean you should cahnge the way you are or the way you act, not in this sport. its about individuality, and people can do what they want. obviously k2 supports what pep said, they put it in there own fucking magazine! k2 isnt upset, you can be upset if you want to, but truth of the matter is, "professional" skiers, are just skiers.
