Skiing Outerwear... Your Thoughts?

I have a lot of 686 stuff. Maybe they'll sponsor a skier one day, that'd be sick. but for now I just like the clothes, so what?

steez is steez, but for the thread i have a quiksilver setup and its all good cause quik sponsered candide. so my ass is covered, but i also have an oakley suit, and oakley dosent tailor to one sport

i agree that it hurts the skiing industry... but if the sick outerwear isn't out there and available in stores then whatre skiiers supposed to do? spend more money for gayer shit online? or spend less money for sicker shit in stores... that just happens to be a snowboard company...

I wear Holden stuff, don't know exactly how you guys feel about that, but I really enjoy their stuff. My style and very high quality (also eco-friendly). As far as I know they support skiers so I don't feel terrible about it.

I also don't understand what the rave is about Oakley. It seems like their designs and quality have deteriorated over the years, and now really isn't worth the price at all. Maybe it's just me though.

If I could make it rain I would. But honestly the quality you get from skiing brands is so much better than burton shit. Honestly. Who wouldn't wanna wear an Oakley or Helly Hansen or SMS or Sunice suit over Burton. Wait for deals to pop up and attack when they do.

I wear a 686 jacket, but it was given to me as a present from a family friend, so I didnt want to be a jackass about it.

I like to support companies that I feel I identify with, and respect. Holden, for instance. There is certainly a lack of Holden esque companies in skiing. Because of this lack of diversity, I support a snowboard company.

take into account the money we spend on SKIS themselves, poles, and boots. on the other hand i would rather support ski companies but i don't think its horrible to wear a snowboard jacket. but i like ski wear better anyway, like orage, salomon, oakley, and stuff like that.

I think Siver's going out of business is a good example. Apparently not enough people didnt buy their shit and support them so they shut down. If more of us were supporting and buying products from a ski specific company like them, they could still be in business. I try to buy things from the smaller companies in skiing, even if its something very cheap like a beanie. It just makes me feel better to know that I am supporting the growth of a smaller company and the growth of our sport. Plus, some of the smaller ski companies make some sick stuff, outerwear and ski companies alike. Look at SMS  or Saga or something real small like Lethal Descent....Sickest shit around. I'll gladly dish out the extra money to support skiing and look even better.

dude idk what skiing stuff ur looking at, but ur nuts if u cant find anything nice between orage, SMS, Salomon, Oakley, Sunice, Sessions, Scott and more

how many ski companies have bright colored ski gear? not alot. if saga actually got their shit toy gether we'd be on the right track. but i like my kelly green sessions pants thank you very much (10k/10k). and my 686 jacket is fucking awesome. (small company) ski jackets seem very cheap.

I think my style may be a little bit different then most of you guys who are saying that ski companies dont make cool shit. I'm really really not into bright flashy colors at all. Orage is a perfect representation of my style. I love everyhting that comes out of that company. So I guess as long as you're not into flashy colors and patterns too much, then the ski specific companies are for you. If your into that stuff then go for some snowboard jackets

there are some good ski companys making good stuff but not really enough. if you do find something dope it costs way to much. BUt i bet all you rich people out there could buy it

Functionality comes first. When it is wet out there, I need waterproofing, and most ski companies have not figured out to use Gore-Tex in their lineups. Sessions is a notable exception.

I will not buy clothing that does not function how I want it to, and until ski companies step up and make sick designs with proper waterproofing, I will feel no qualms about supporting companies that do.

Im pretty impartial, if you like it go for it. Id prefer to buy a skier based company but its not really a big deal... I think the big issue is when people buy on the internet rather then at local shops, it kills business just sack up and drop the extra 20 bucks...

Exactly why I came in to say.

Ski companies need to step their shit up, because a lot of it is fucking crap.

The only item of clothing I have from a "ski company" would be a pair of older oakley pants when they were actually gore-tex and sweet. Their new shit sucks though.

My two jackets are Burton and Quicksilver. Both are the style I want, have the features I want, and both are Gore-tex (28,000 waterproofing).

My new pair of pants is a pair of Sessions that are also gore-tex.

Ski companies are sort of split clothing wise, IMO. There is tighter, more euro style clothing like Eider, Arc'teryx, and Noronna who all produce ridiculously functional outerware, but it is tighter and just not as comfortable to me. Then there are companies like Spyder, Orage, etc, and they produce some nice stuff, but most of it is between 10,000-20,000 in waterproofing and that just isn't good enough for me in the PNW.

So who answers my clothing need? Right now, it has basically been Burton and Sessions (who, granted, does sponsor some skiers, but remains more of a snowboarding company in my opinion). My jacket before was a gore-tex bonfire. All of them, IMO, are much better that most of the ski jackets offered and cost the same price.

I will say that a few companies are moving the right way (salomon, HH), but for the most part I am constantly disappointed by ski company clothing.

And until they do step their shit up, I am fine getting clothing that works for me. For now, that has been Sessions & Burton.

i don't care if you rock snowboard outerwear as long as it's not burton.
that is supporting a shitty corporate company that's advertisements are based on the "lameness" of skiing.

fuck burton
fuck ronin
fuck anon.

i used to rock anon too, but dropping their skiers is shit.

bottom line-- ski companies need brighter colors and designs that will catch someone's eye. they need better waterproofing.
fuck as of right now, if i were gonna buy any skiing outerwear, it would have to be one of those neon jumpsuits from the 80's. steeze right there.

too bad ppl hate burton so much. next years outerware is the 80's coming back with neons and zippers the zip across like a seat belt and just mad nice designs

This question stems completely from my lack of knowledge of the snowboarding industry so give me a little break. So skiing has big companies like HH, Obermeyer, Spyder and then the smaller companies like SAGA, Lethal Descent, Avalaan and such. What are the smaller "boutique" snowboarding outerwear companies comparable to SAGA or Lethal Descent?

And on the subject of this question I believe that people should support skiing companies. But I don't exactly practice what I preach. I have a 686 jacket which I really like but I also have SAGA pants. I couldn't be any happier with my pants and if I had an extra 320 laying around I would definitely pick up a jacket too, and I probably will in the future.
