Skiing Outerwear... Your Thoughts?

Hey Guys,

I work in a shop with 6 other snowboarders and 2 other skiers. I was talking to the boarders about how they thought that skiers wearing snowboarding companies outerwear is "unnacceptable". My argument to that was is you want to get something that isnt really plain and has some cool designs and colors (like airblaster for example), you most likely wont find it from most of the ski outerwear companies. Right now i have Colby West's sunice JFC pro jacket and its sick, but my question is what do you guys think about us wearing snowboarding outwear and is there a ski company out there right now that is making awesome designs and colors.

I think it is bullshit for skiers to wear snowboard outerwear unless those snowboard companies pay for advertising in skiing magazine, hold contests or photoshoots for skiers, or sponsor skiers. Otherwise we are dumping money into an industry that is doing nothing to help advance our sport. They are basically cashing in on something that that have done nothing to progress. Especially Burton who, for years, had used the "nerdy skier" as their advertising campaign for snowboarding. The problem is that there are no ski companies, imo, that are making the style and type of outerwear that snowboard companies are producing. After companies like Aeryx and Siver dissapear and with rumors that Obermeyer is getting out of thefreeskiing game, it is very apparent that these companies are not making enough money in newschool skiing to continue pushing it. It is sad, but this is not going to change until skiers stop buying snowboard outerwear.

i dont mind it some people are weird and think its a huge deal

i have two outerwear setups ones from skiing companys ones from boarding companys (orage pants siver jacket)(turbine boardwear pants burton jacket)

also for companys making stuff with cool designs and colors

i think prederter wear had the sickest stuff but they went under

next years spyder look wicked (the blue and black josh bibby's been wearing)

sms stuff is dope looking but there not they highest wuality

orage has some cool stuff

sessions has some really nice stuff i tend to like and its pretty good quality wise

but yeah alot of the snowboarder outerware is way doper

I agree with radoripper, why should we put more money into somehting that isnt helping our sport? Plus there are a bunch of ski specific outerwear companies that make some sick stuff - Orage, SMS, Lethal Descent, Aegix,Obermeyer, and you can also count companies that sponsor skiers like Sessions and Oakley. Siver and Aeryx were awesome, I wish they were still around. So I dont think it's reallly tough to find a hot jacket or pants and still support skiing.

I think it's funny when people get pissed over shit like this. I buy whats cheap, and skier specific outerwear is far from that.

yeah thats another thing... a lot of that stuff is so expensive so its kinda like we buy whatever is the best price and looks the best at the same time which is usually snowboard outerwear. im lucky i work at a shop and get the stuff cheap but im looking for some really dope crazy color schemes. and i do agree with riper def. its kinda like we all want that stuff but we are throwing money in the the snowboard industry that uses as in a negative way to promote their company which is bullshit. i think skiers respect snowboarders a lot because a lot of what we have wouldnt be there if it werent for them but there is such a lack of respect from snowboarders which again is bullshit for so many reasons that we already know. there is some sick stuff out there but its not to wear the snowboard outwear is yet.

yeah but its hard to find really really sick ski outerwear at a local dealer thats the problem

i wear boarding shit because i havent found sicker ski shit, so if i see something from orage that i like, OF COURSE id buy it over like, burton.

but they need to make the sick stuff available first...

well im going to wear what i think is the sickest in my price range and if thats snowboarding stuff well then im ok with that

yeah i know what you guys are saying,,,

Afton i totally agree wth you a lot of the sick stuff isnt even available at shops, so you are either going to buy boarding stuff there that is cheap or go online and pay a ton. ill talk about my shop for example. we carry the most conservative colors in everything. we have some pretty sick stuff in the boarding section but even thats bad. shops are afraid to carry the crazy colors for ski stuff because its marketing to a smaller group which is horrible for us thats why when you to shops ull pretty much just see brown black and white you know? i remember siver and how sick they were but we need another company

I don't buy outerwear very often, but If I see something that's so super dope I just have to have it and it's on sale a bit then I'll buy it. I find that the Burton, Special Blend and other snowboarding stuff is usually the most expensive in the store so I don't buy it, plus I would rather get something from Orage or Scott or a company that supports skiing. I really don't like to spend much over $100 on outerwear though, so I wear pretty shabby stuff, or stuff I can get used.

yeah i was checkin out orage's stuff for next year it looks really decent. does anyone know if there is going to be another oakley cohesion next year?

oakley and orage always do a decent job, I think that Spyder is going to start to emerge more into the freeskiing market, as well as staying with racing, and they will make a good product.

i agree that you should get whatever you want especially if you get a deal on it. i got $250 ronin pants at the burton store for like $75 so obviously im gonna get em. besides that companies that make sick shit for skiers are saga, orage, sunice and their shit is just as good if not better than burton

ps - airblaster sucks and so do tight snow pants...please lose that trend

all of next years airblaster stuff is going to come in 2 fits, baggy and fitted. yay!

and i like to where shit that i like the look of and is different yknow? that just happens to be snowboard outerwear usually because the skiing market is way to small to have that many different styles. holden, airblaster, and grenade are the three i stick by...

and it just so happens before any of you get on me, that all 3 of those companies are down with skiers.

honestly i couldnt give a fuck, but holden is working with AntB and i believe already sponsors Ian Wade. Airblaster hosted a vid of skiers on their website last year and were super stoked + i've heard rumours of skiers getting flow from them. AND grenade sponsors tanner hall and rory silva

i saw some of airblasters shit for next year and it looks sick like i was saying i was just getting shit from all the snowboarders at my shop haha the one dude works for rome so hes pretty core about snowboarding

thats weird where do you live?

cause up here (whistler) everyone is usually semi-down, but like, the other day, this one snowboarder commented on my pants, started talking about how he thinks its rad im wearing a different style and shit. mostly theyre just stoked.

Personally, I think its a gay argument to begin with.

Its not like your representing a gang or anything, just get shit that you like to wear. Its usually really bad kids that care about skiers wearing snowboarding stuff, or snowboarders wearing ski stuff.

In my opinion you shouldn't even be getting that stylish gear unless you have the substance to back it up, or else you look like a poser and a moron.

It realy is funny though when someone actually trys to bring it up on the mountain, it's such an easy issue to put someone to shame with.

I would say that a skier has more of a right to be pissed off about this than a snowboarder. Just the mere fact that we aren't buying into "our" sport i guess is a valid point. But a snowboarder getting pissed cause it's "their" outerwear is just stupid.

why would you give your money to someone who doesnt give a fuck about your sport when you couls give it to someone who actually does something for you

why the fuck would you care. are you going to see anything back from it? i doubt it. pay 300 more for something thats just as good becasue its skiers.

i have about half and half from ski and snowboard outerwear companies...the-house.com and evogear.com have reaaaaaally good shit for suuuuuper cheap sometimes, so i cant resist even though it's boarder gear...it really doesnt matter, but i still dont buy anything Burton just on general principle, and i also have a rule that if there are any huge logos ill send it back...

yeah thats a good point. I guess the way i feel about is unless the board company completely downs skiing like burton im not going to buy them. thatts interesting what someone said above about airblaster having a ski video on their site. if thats true its pretty sick

its skiing, not a fashion show, if your snowboard friends care about what brand of clothing you are wearing then tell them to fuck off and go be a homosexual fashion designer and stop snowboarding.

i just picked these up for 65 bucks off whiskeymilitia and I dont care that they're special blend, they were cheap as hell and they look gooood

im even wearing some 686 jeans right now that i found for 20 bucks. im a baller on a budget, can't be picky

I personlaly don't really care if skiers wear snowboarding stuff but i think its pretty sick when snowboarders where ski specific stuff. I know like 4 snowboarders with orage stuff, its pretty dope.

It's terrible for skiers to wear snowboarding outerwear because of the reasons stated before. We need to support brands that support us. Yeah, skiers and snowboarders should be united, but in order to keep ski companies going strong, we need to buy from skier based companies. Companies like Burton take away from that unity and NO skiers should be repping their shit.
