Skiing or Hockey Fights?

Hi NS. As a senior, I have to do a year long project of intensive research on a specific topic. Right now my two top choices are The evolution of Freeskiing in America or Fighting in Hockey. Let me know what you think. +k for helpful responses.

Cheers

Write about my grandpa. He has the most penalty minutes in portland bukaroos history. We have the sports page showing a guy he put in the hospital. The dude was all beat to shit and was trash talking my granpa from the stretcher.

my guess is he means progression of skiing, so basically the history of skiing? and i bet you could have a pretty killer powerpoint/sick videos for your skiing one haha. but seriously, i think fighting in hockey might be a little easier?

writing a paper on skiing is a terrible idea. there's just not a lot of good reliable source data on which to base your research. i mean, i get it that everyone here is passionate about sliding on snow, but that doesn't make it a good topic for school.

definitely do it on fighting in hockey. it has evolved SOOOO much over the past 40 years and there is quite a bit of data to use in your research. Plus, as previously stated, it'll make for a kick ass presentation...punny punny, i know.

If you're excited at all about hockey fights, do it on that. You'll find a lot more readily available quantitative data on hockey fights, which should be the majority of your report. To go the skiing route, you'd need to interview various ski comp organizers, judges, and iconic filmmakers because there just isn't very much info out there, and this doesn't sound like a project that will reward subjectivity very highly.

Plus, you'll probably hate this project after a few months, and you don't want to hate skiing.

hockey fights, works well with concussion issues and brain trauma. not to mention the history of fighting in hockey as a preface.

+k given. So far it looks like the majority vote is for hockey fights. but fighting in skiing could be interesting....

Fighting. Definitely fighting. Especially if you can show video examples or power point slide pictures or something like that. Really any visual representation. Definitely hockey fights

and absolutely nothing credible or academic has been written about it.

Remember the freeskiing wiki? It said the first freeskier was some prussian general who used 2 broken sleds and mustache wax to fashion skis, then threw a 1440 off a cannon.

i honestly think you could get a linger, more in depth paper on the evolution of skiing. what is there to write about fighting in hockey? its part of the sport, thats pretty much that paper done right there

It isn't a class. It is an independent research project that all seniors are required to do on a topic of their choice. And in april we all have to present on our topics.

It's amazing how often this thread gets made.

*Note to all highschoolers, skiing sucks as a topic for research papers as there is virtually no academic writing on the subject, especially free skiing.
