Skiing on a knee injury

I realize that the thread title sounds stupid already, but i didnt know if anyone has been in my same situation. Last weekend at a railjam i came off a rail wrong and suffered a patellar sunlaxtion (dislocated my knee cap). It popped back in but the pain was unbeleieble. i just collapsed for 5 min. it doesnt hurt now (4 days later) but my knee feels really unstable. i got a brace and i am thinking of skiing park again this weekend. My season was one of the best ive had. so bascially wondering if anyone has had the same injury and if i should ski on it.

Spark notes: dislocated my knee cap last weekend. wondering if skiing park on it will risk permanant damage or if it is fine since it has popped back into place.

Don't fuck around with knees.
If it's unstable, then it makes it more easy for you to injure it in other ways, more severely. You seriously strained your shit, and you should probably get an MRI to make sure you didn't do anything else. Don't push it!

It's going to blow nutsack, but just wain it out. You're better off taking two to three weeks off. Make sure you FEEL 100% too. If you are skiing and you feel something wrong, just stope. Waiting a few weeks will be better than suffering a recovery for a few months. Start skiing once you feel 100%.

I'm a certified EMT and you should probably have gone to the doctor to make sure you didn't fuck anything up internally(I'd go if your parents pay cause they'll try to give you an mri and those are pricy), so I would just ice it and stay off it for a while until your feeling 100%, I'd wear a hinged knee brace ($29.99 at walgreens) for extra support the next time you go skiing. If you really want this season to keep being the best one you have had, you'd wait a couple weeks and ice.Hope your knee gets better man

stay off it, wait until it feels stable. If your patella tendon is hurt, your quad wont be able to fire properly, which puts your acl and other ligaments in your knee at risk.

seriously, dont mess around with knees! get an MRI and take some time off of skiing.. i would recommend wearing a brace when you do ski again

Thissss . I tore My acl and within a week my knee felt Great again didn't think that there was anything wrong Into i was running and it just Popped and gave out. Get in MRI that's really the only way you'll really know.

I think it's really interesting to hear all of you freak out on here everytime someone has a knee injury. Granted it's not a good thing to have happen, but you can fun tion without an acl in your knee. I tore mine 2 years ago and skiied 100+ days each season since wearing donjoys everyday I go out and I've been fin. I've tweaked it a time or 2 but that happens in our sport. Take care of yourself and don't push it to hard and you'll be fine. Knee surgery is hard as fuck to find time for. It has yet to fit my schedule. When it does I'll get the surgery done. Untill then Ill be fine and so will you dude.

Thats great that you ski'd with no acl and were fine, but this kid dislocated his knee cap. That means a fair amount of strain was put on his knee, things probably got torn up or stretched a bit. He even mentions its unstable. When you tore your acl, you probably didnt rally the rest of your knee very badly and it probably felt alright cause your muscles were fine and firing properly. You'll realize the muscle thing first hand after you get surgery and a chunk of your hamstring is missing(unless you go patella, that'll effect your quad instead).
