Skiing Not A Real Sport?

So there is this kid at my school, that plays baseball a lot. And he constantly uses this line if we ever say anything about baseball, "at least i play a real sport."
He claims that skiing isn't a real sport and basically thinks its the dumbest thing in history.
Kind of a rant, but im curious to see what you guys say to this.
I think skiing is just as much of a sport as baseball is, what's the difference they have matching uniforms and mandatory practices?

and i was debating whether this should go in ski gabber or non-ski gabber but since it included baseball and other sports as well then i decided on non-ski gabber
 
just ask him what makes a sport a real sport? and then just prove him wrong cause he is fucking dumb. cause baseball is one of the most boring sports ever to watch.
 
ive asked him that and he always replys.
"we have practices, games, people actually care about our sport, its americas most popular sport, blah blah blah"
i always explain to him, "everytime i go up is like a practice, competitions are the games, people do indeed care about skiing,"
considering today on the WASL i read that 7 point something million people ski per year, and i doubt baseball is the most popular sport anymore, i know i dont give a rats ass about it
 
well he is one of my best friends, and he is alright most other ways and stuff like that but when it comes to skiing he is the biggest fag on the planet
 
we'll they're both in the Olympics, but then again there are a lot of dumb events in the Olympics.

is skiing physically challenging and rewarding? yes

do people have fun skiing? yes

can you ski competitively? yes

It's definitely a sport, your friend is just jealous because he plays gay baseball.

actually baseball isnt an olympic sport anymore. so shove that right up his ass. and skiing is definitaly a sport. its just an individual sport like tennis or golf. if i were you i would beat the shit out of that kid if hes that fucking gay about saying how skiing isnt a sport, even if he is your best friend. Skiing is just as much if not more of a sport than skiing

ANY other sport might be able to BS some kind of argument, but baseball is a joke. This kid must be an idiot if he thinks baseball is more of a sport than skiing.

yea im pretty sure it is. who cares though. honestly skiing is soo much bigger than it. like your friend or if he is friend he is really dumb as fuck. w.e though he prob knows it and is just trying to get on your nerves
 
baseball is my summer sport, so obviously i like it. but this guy is way off base. skiing is definitely a real sport. they both require alot of skill to excel at.

but baseball is wayyy slack, you probably have to actually move for only 1/4 of the game. the rest of the time is just standing there

skiing is a real sport, so punch that bastard in the face.
 
i've gotten the not a real sport line before but people think that ski racing is a sport just not freeskiinglet them be bored to tears while standing in a field for hours on end while you go shred sick lines, it's their loss
 
ive been more sore from skiing then playing baseball

i played baseball for 10 years and i swim now

swimming is also a sport... people think its not or something

 
Haha sking is a true sport. A kid who plays basketball in my school does the same exact thing, except since he say the T-Wall Mt Hood edit now all he says is "Skiing is so juice banger, doing flips all day, basketball is the best!" gay...
 
skiing is not a sport its an EXTREME sport, I played baseballa nd it prolly takes the same if not more trianing in skiing as baseball, just diff type of training
 
baseball doesn't require as much athletic ability as skiing I mean all you need is strong arms and some good hand eye coordination

skiing is more of a full body sport that focuses a lot on the legs but you use your core and your arms when pole planting and throwing yourself into spins, etc

i just think baseball has too much downtime, your heart rate peaks for about 15 seconds as you run to a base and then its normal for another hour

yes skiing has downtime but you heart rate is high for a much longer period of time and there is almost constant action with brief intermissions on the chair
 
he has a point though, they both require alot of training to be good at, although the training is very different.

comparing skiing to baseball is like comparing apples and oranges, there 2 different things so you cant really say one is better.

but w/e, i like both of them and they are both real sports. now golf on the other hand....
 
not true. i played baseball for years and if all you have is strong arms you wont go anywhere with it. what you REALLY need is a strong core which is the same as what you would need in skiing. also, depending on position you need good, lean leg muscles to be fast like if you are playing Outfield, short, or second base. and for catchers, you need some crazy amounts of endurance (i played catcher, right, and 3rd base... yeah, i was a slow motherfucker).

my old baseball coach actually suggested to everyone that could afford it to go skiing, just leisure skiing not crazy cliff hucking, in the offseason cause you use the same core muscles and it helps you gain those lean and fast muscles.

now, for whether skiing is a sport or not? it definetly is. and baseball being america's favorite sport? well, it would like to think so but honestly i think we can all agree that football has taken over that spot in america in all honesty.
 
no hes totally right, baseball is so much more physically demanding than skiing. just look at the great physical shape you have to be in to be a baseball player.

People worry to much about this stupid word.... Just go to the dictionary and look up the word. I row, and I get nothing but shit for it - people always tell me that rowing isn't a sport, it's just a hobby, blah blah blah, yet it's more physically challenging than almost any other sport...
 
i knew someone would question that but I just find that depending on what position you play you need only a specific part of your body to be strong as opposed to skiing that works the whole body
 
yeah, i guess cause i played like a utility player i just had to be all around, which made me fucking SUCK at batting. and to the picture of the fatass pitcher... pitchers, in general, arent ever very athletic cause they very, VERY rarely ever have to run even in practice at the high school level.
 
Im in no way shape or form defending baseball because i hate baseball and i think it is incredibly boring. But, you cant say that skiers are in better shape than mlb players because honestly, theyre not. The majority of baseball players are muscular and big. Skiers are usually skinny
 
this is such a stupid argument...

both baseball and skiing are sports... theres no need to attack baseball... hitting a major league pitch is one of the hardest things to do in any sport.
 
they took baseball out of the olympics. these olympics were the last one with baseball. Skiing is definetly a sport and baseball is too. but who gives a fuck, its all opinion so this argument will never be final.

i dont really consider skiing a "sport", its a bad-ass hobby to me.... but then again i dont compete that much.... but what ever its all good, it dont matter what other people think... to me a sport has officials, umpires, refs, etc....
actually skiing is and extreme sport cause they have judges... lol
and you prolly should have asked this question on a non-skiing site, you pretty much answered your own question when you posted it haha....
