Skiing near Grenoble, FR

Next winter I will hopefully be in Grenoble, France and I have a few questions. What mountains nearby offer the best all around skiing? Also, do they have college season pass deals like they do in the states? I will not have a car, so whats the best way to get to and from the mountains? Thanks!

For close mountains that are good,La Plagne, Les Arcs, Val D'Isre, Les 2 Alpes are all great mountains under 1.5hr away. For the season passes France has very expensive passes, most you have to go over 25 times to break even. For transportation most have shuttles from Grenoble and if you are willing to wake up early taking the train isnt that bad.

Learn the difference between france and russia dumbass... and also the difference between GRENOBLE and CHERNOBYL

Grenoble is towards the southern alps, most of the major french resorts are within 2-3 hours but Alpe d'huez and 2alpes are the closest, within an hour I think.

They're both pretty wicked.

He's right! La Grave is nuts. I only went over for a day (it's linked with 2 alpes) but had a blast!

Not ideal for park though, as it is pretty much ALL off piste!

The best terrain close to grenoble is Les 7 Laux, it's 30mn from the university and has a great park plus awesome BC terrain (more than 3000ft vertical drop w/ very good lifts).

Season pass is like 450€ and the day pass is like 17€ on weekdays for students.

Resorts in less than 45mn from grenoble include Chamrousse (flat but can be fun), St Pierre de chratreuse, Col de Porte Snowpark (almost free and open two nights a week, 20mn from grenoble), Alpe du Grand Serre, Villard de Lans, etc.

In a one hour range you have Les 2 Alpes, La Grave, Alpe d'huez, Serre Chevalier. And a lot more in less than 2 hours drive (Tignes, Les Arcs/La Plagne, etc.).

Without car you'll always find people at the university going to les 7 laux or anywhere else, and buses to the biggest resorts (Alpe d'huez/2 alpes). skipass.com is your friend here ;)

ya, castor has it right. I take it you are doing that uni exchange thing when you go to grenoble for a year? should be sick, I'm gonna do it in my 3rd year too.

yeah castor knows what he is talking about. But i'd suggest to buy a car... Especially in the mountains it will be so much handier

freind of mine did a year in grenoble. Said the university had organized busses in the weekends to the big resorts around. was preatty cehap too.
