Skiing may never hit its true potential

sorry but freestyle skiing is always going to be relegated to the psuedosports bin along with disk golf and darts. The fact is any A level athletes are going to enter into more lucrative sports like basketball and football. kind of bums me out.

Good. Go watch espn.

I’m gonna go get drunk in a parking lot then ski a bunch.

More skiing for me.

But would those people actually help skiing reach its potential?

In skiing athleticism isnt as important as creativity and style

Sounds like we need more Arts Majors in skiing lol.

I mean Anyone can be creative, just wanted to point out that grade A ski athletes arent your typical grade A atheletes

I mean being an nfl linebacker may not be the best body type for skiing, it has been said that soccer players are more resilient to the type of knee injuries that it seems skiers are prone to such as acl and meniscus tears because of the way passing strengthens the knees in a way that skiing on its own does not. There does seem to be an ideal body type for freeskiing and that seems to focus on agility. The bright side of it not being so mainstream is that we get to be so close to the biggest pros. Look at skateboarding, the best of the best have private parks and can’t shred a public park with the homies without getting swarmed. Want to ski with olympic/X games medalists? Great, head over to PC or Mamm and say what’s up. Don’t worry about it all too much and have fun!

Actually its called sports disc

You throw a spinny disc into the bangers or as the cool kids would say "lets play a round of bang me, who's first?"

any links or info on that?

might explain why my knees haven't exploded into clouds of pink mist yet

I'm betting a lot of people reading this are some of the most athletic kids in their class and stopped playing team sports to pursue skiing more. therefore, you're wrong

I heard it from my coach and my dad told me his physical therapist said that. The way it was explained to me is that when passing, you use muscles in your inner thigh. Also acl rears are typically caused by landing backseat while spinning and trying to stay standing so my method is to not try to always save it cause it’s not worth it.

interesting, thanks. re: saving backseat landings i've always heard that too, seems like good advice

Come to FRANK (Alta closing day) on April 15 and you’ll see skiing hit it’s true potential.

I would love to. If I didn’t start my summer job on the 16th I’d be there.

Sounds like you're looking for validation from the public that you're cool. I ski cause I love skiing, fuck however it's seen, more mountain for me

has nothing to do with athleticism, it has to do with pure numbers. Anybody in america or the world can find a round ball and start kicking it, throwing it or catching it. Thus soccer being the worlds most popular sport. Kids in the inner city have hoops at every park and only need one ball for 10 dudes to play. By pure connection the most popular sports are going to be the sports that people connect with. Skiing will never have the draw that your ball and stick will have. That cool by me. Every 4 years the skiers get to show off then fade back into obscurity. Unless your banging Tiger Woods.

Yea, Lebron would be so much better at skiing than Goepper. lol

Why wouldn't he be? with the same training, equipment, etc., i see no reason why any of the major sports' best athletes couldn't absolutely crush it on skis

Id love to see OP crash on a dub cork 1440 on a 100ft step down and tell me these guys arent in shape.

Walk up a jump for an entire day to session it and tell me park riders arent in shape.

Follow the top athletes in the world for a week and tell me they arent athletic.

Ask most good riders about others sports they practice and answers will be all over the map. Some riders on NS are amazing football players too.

this is just not a chill thing to say in any situation

Dude you are a fucking tool for editing the quote. You left out a critical part of my argument. Let me quote it out for you:

"Id love to see OP crash on a dub cork 1440 on a 100ft step down and tell me these guys arent in shape. "

The point was park riders are so in shape, they can slam on the landing and get up to try again. If a normal person takes those hits without physical training; they will be in the emergency every time. Its the same as freeride mtb...Crankworks comes to mind. I would never be able to walk away from those crashes.

no one can fall 100 feet while trying to spin a dub 1440 and just get back up and try again. not sure why you said step down
