I teach people to hockeystop as soon as possible. It takes way less effort and is far safer than a high speed death pizza

To be fair, high speed alpine skiing only really took off in the late 1800s, which is around the same time modern hockey emerged. Both sports existed for thousands of years prior but were standardized around the same time
