Skiing in the New York Times TODAY

I love how they simpilized all the tearms so the avergae joe will understand it somewhat. whatever more exposer = more cash for ski comps = better products

That's so sick. The writer did a pretty decent job for describing twin tips and all that. That's awesome this minute tiny sport is getting international coverage. This should be put on the cover of NS News... Congrats fellow NS'er Schmies.. this is sick!

what a horrible article. its good Schmies and madsteez are getting press, but tyring to cover freeskining in that way just doesnt work.

"This new form of freestyle skiing is also a reaction against snowboards, which have come to be regarded by some members of the younger set as the unfashionable pursuit of soft, middle-aged suburbanites. "

OHHHHH SNAAAAAAAAAAAP.

Yea that part was lame, but take it all in, it was a little untrue and stereotypical but you have to give them some leeway(sp?). They aren't going to nail a perfect description because there isn't one. Freestyle skiers like any other sport are all different.. No one fits a category and if we did, that isn't necessarily a good thing..

"AR5 twin-tip ski model, a newer type of ski made for performing skateboard-style tricks"

haha, i do kick flips on my skis

schimies!

"AR5 twin-tip ski model, a newer type of ski made for performing skateboard-style tricks"

sry guy above me...i quoted that too...haha

An unsuspecting loss on the 4th isle between the sandpaper hula-hoops and neon forest green telescopes to Leroy Mack’n WEEN in the 1985 Racquetball Championships proved to be an unprecedented turning point in Mr.Ween’s life. Thus a ferocious kite walkn’ Nerds Rope eatn’ Dolorean lovin’ zebra pin-stripped fluorescent navy blue WEENBEAR emerged. Inevitably, slagin’ an abundance of kreativity and electromagnetic python dynobots has led to an extensive client/collaboration list including projects with Honda, Volkswagen, MCA Records, Nike, Interscope Records, Avex (X-Trail Jam Tokyo =ome), Stussy, Evisu, Ben Sherman, Ecko, Von Zipper and Armada with proceeds going to the well being WEEN’s Krippled Little Brother Latrel. And the rest is history……HEY D!K

I still don't think people realize the privelege they have been given to be strapping anything from the dome of madsteeez to their feet.

I haven't picked up the ny times in months and today i get it at the coffee shop for no reason. then I come across the article. Creepy.

i liked that even tho it kinda described tricks strangely its good to see skiing getting some press and props to madsteez for keepin good graffiti alive

"They want big air off the halfpipe - a U-shaped formation of snow - and acrobatic stunts in the terrain park, an area at many ski resorts set aside for doing tricks."

those lines are the best, its funny because we all know what it is...but then there are some people that have never heard of a "halfpipe" or "terrain park" its a sick article

For the sport, it is pretty dope. The New York Times is one of the largest circulated papers in the world:)

you guys are the biggest pieces of shit and to even use yourselves in the same sentence with any of the first two companies you mentioned is a downright travesty.

i do skateboard style tricks all the time when I'm skiing...i like to do kickflips and shuvits when I'm skiing in the streets

i totally agree there, but I didn't want to ruin the thread by going negative.

that article is awesome though. and you pretty much are doing acrobatics in a u shaped ditch.

as for comparing the tricks to skateboarding, you all should be thankful as hell. I can only imagine the responses here if he had said "rollerblading inspired tricks".
