So before I start writing this blog, I need to explain what were doing this week. Salomon Freeski TV are filming a episode in Scotland around a few resorts over the next week and im along to help out, do some filming and skiing and driving the crew around. Pretty cool week in the office for me! It's also great as I haven't skied Scotland since I was a kid and there having one of the best seasons for over 20 years which is awesome to see. I love it how passionate all the locals are in the Scottish resorts and how hard they work to make them great and safe places to ski and snowboard. Anyway, here is what we have been up to so far.
After along day of traveling yesterday from Manchester to Edinburgh I picked up our Salomon Freeski TV crew which consists of a guy called Ben Mullins who is from America and has filmed on many episodes of Salomon Freeski TV as well as filmed parts for big productions company's like Matchstick & Poorboyz and we also have legendary pro Freeskier John Symms along also from America. We travelled to Aviemore and met up with Neil Macgrain who has recently started working for Snowsports Scotland and got checked into the hotel.
We woke up this morning to fairly clear conditions and not too much wind and headed to the Cairngorms. As we drove up the the road to the resort I couldn't believe how much snow they have as the snow walls must have been as high as 12ft in places. We met up with Colin from Cairngorm resorts who was amazing and sorted us out with lift tickets and provided us with a guide called Hendy who showed us around the mountain. Once we knew where to go, Ben started to get some shots but the visibility started to get pretty bad. The snow on the other hand was awesome with a massive base so it looks like it's going to last all season from the snow they already have. We cruised around and played on the the rails which was fun and looked for jibs and things to build later on in the week. Its fun having Symms here to ski with as he is super chilled out and such a nice guy. He has worked on many filming projects in his time and if you haven't already seen it, checkout the video link of him below when he filmed the legendary (My friend is a pro). Tonight were going to go out round town and meet up with the locals and check out the bars which should be fun and fingers crossed we get good weather tomorrow.
Just want to say a massive thank you to Tanya and Colin from Cairngorms resorts for providing us with accommodation at the Highlander Hotel and lift tickets. This is a huge help when working on projects like this. Also, big thanks to my Salomon work buddies, Robbie Young, Davee Mercer and Eric Davies for introducing me to the locals and pointing us in the right direction. We have loads planned this week so keep checking this space as we will have updated blogs each day.
