Skiing in July?

Hey everyone,

I was recently thinking about the fact that a bunch of friends of mine are at Mt. Hood and the fact that I'm here in calgary and there is no snow.

So, I thought it might be a good idea to grab my skis, grab some people, and go for a little hike for some turns.

Anyone know anywhere this is possible that is accessible from calgary?

yee, but it will have to be soon and on somewhat of a cloudy day if you plan on being able to actually ski. I cant remember the name of the mountain right now, but its past fortress and it would be quite the hike.

i remember talking to some lady about a glacier not to far from fortress and nakiska where you could ski into late august, cant remember the name, but you could probly find it if you researched a little

Rae glacier is the place your thinking of. Your seriously going to have to earn you turns, its probable like 6km hike from the parking lot to the snowline, and with all your ski gear it kinda sucks. Watch out for spring avalanches. Remember to go up the backside and not the frontside.

dude sunshine still has plenty of snow and you can easily get a ride up to the village with all teh construction going on up there. also there are some spots past sunshine just the names are slipping my mind. near jasper and shit.

Around Banff and Jasper you are probably shit outta luck man. Parkers ridge is usually the best bet, because it is like 6500 or 7000 Ft and you can literally walk 50 ft, then start skinning. I drove past 2 weeks ago and it looked alright there, but apparently now there is nothing left.
Take a look at thishttp://www.skibanff.com/conditions/webcam5still.php. There is probably a foot or two of snow at the top of sunshine, at 9500 ft, but I seriously think that your gonna have alot of trouble finding anything in the Banff area in any of the regular spots.

yee, thats the one. I forgot about bow summit, it would probably be your best bet, be a lot easier than Rae for sure

That's cool that you can ski that in July. I'd like to book whistler accommodations but I

can't ski there at the moment. It's supposed to be 30 C or something like

that in the next few days. It would be a nice hiking trip though. I

haven't been to Bow Summit - I'll have to check that one out.

Thanks for the info people, I figure if I go anywhere it will be somewhere around the icefields, unless I can get some info on highwood pass right now.

bow summit i guess is no good right now, looked into it, you would have to start the hike at like 2 in the morning because doesnt completely freeze until then i guess, and it would be close to a 6 hour hike to get the turns right now anyways....kinda bunk. guess will have to just raid the hockey arenas and hit urbans....
