So after some discussion the people I'm here in budapest with decided that they DID want to do a ski trip in early december before we leave. My question to you kids is where with a 8 hour train ride of budapest is the best skiing in early december..?

Russia is a little far...after a little more research it looks like Slovenia and Austria are the best bets.. anyone know of any good stuff in those two countries?

that si what I'm talking about, i knew there were a couple good ones in Austria, jsut counldn't think of names.

Ya, I'm gonna have to find out when places open, because we're trying to get a trip in a weekend to one place right around hte time I've been told most places open, so it's gonna be tight. Austria is looking like the tits.

and Ryno, I'll a very good skier, I won't die, it'll be thte people I'm with who do.

Bansko in Bulgaria is a good up-and-comer. The resort is owned by the same people as whistler and they are really pushing the development there along. Its really cheao too.

Loads of super-good options in Austria.

Any resort in the Arlberg region (Lech, St Anton etc) have great freeride terrain with good bc booter options. Not sure when the parks will be up and running though.

For parks, Mayrhofen, Bad Gastein and Hintertux all have sick early season park setups.

budapest-mayrhofen is 9 hours by train.

From Mayrhofen you reach the Hintertux glacier where the park opened last weekend en the park is epic for the first year.

There is some skiing in Slovakia and Romania (Tatras and Transylvanian Alps) but don't bother, go to Austria.

I Think this is probally to far to go for you, but for future reference and for everybody else:

the craziest place ive been was kazekistan. ex russian millitary chopper for all of $20 US a day (im pretty sure they were mafia type people because fuck they were sketchy) really stable and deep snow, sick terrain and cool culture, lebanon is also cool, kinda warren miller trip style, not really deep snow but riding through ancient cyprus pine is fucking awesome, and riding urban rails out side a church or mosk or w/e with like 50 locals cheering you on it awesome. The mountains are kinda out in the sticks so if you are worried about getting blown the fuck up......Dont i have traveled through out the middle east and eastern europe two years ago for the year, only once i feared for my life, but thats what travelings all about, the adventure.

these to are more the lets travel and ski type places with great culture, great food, really cheap, but sometime really dodgey.

as for austria innsbruck is sweet as hell and the hautte route (Watch TGR's High Life) is all through there and is awesome, easiley accesible terrrain, cheap, and every valley there is a new awesome village to see. (buildings older than my country shit like that.) have a blast man.

oh a remember it aint all about the skiing unless you live in europe go out see the cool shit thats there, meet the people, and i dont mean just the people you ride the chair with

I have a friend here who can ge us cheap places to stay at NICe hotels in Innsbrck, so I think we may head there if skiing is possible when we want to go.

As for seeing Europe, I've been traveling every weekend for a month since I got here and will continue to every weekend from here on out, I've got 4 months total in Budapest and traveling Europe is why I came here... Culture is amazing and I love seeing how different countries are.

Jasna, Slovakia is about three hours from Budabest.

Slopes are full of people going straight and out of control. BUT if there's good snow, you can find nice off-piste easily. (hint: "free ride area" on their piste maps)

Beer, food and accommodation is also cheap. And I liked the scene there alot otherwise too...very beautiful mountains, nice little villages, old castles etc.

shit, those were in a movie!?!?!?!

damn, i remember hitting those a couple of years back, it was so kick ass and fun.

but yeah, Bansko kicks some ass, If anyone is planning on coming here this winter, i can probably hook you up at a friends hotel for cheaper (i know people).

And the powder is awsome once it falls.

Nope, it ain't owend by the same people as whistler, unless they bought it recently. Last season it was owend by the Bulgarian first investmint bank, but hopefully those assholes sold it to whistler.

damn i hope your right about this, but you most likely aren't.

and it is cheap, real cheap.

melvs, ive been to st anton, i went last march. its pretty incredible, if your with a good group of people too i cant see how it couldnt be epic. its fuckin huge...theres dozens of peaks and huge ones at that, when i went we had some good snow too, just make sure ur skis have edges when you go because all the austrians ski is the groomed shit, and theyre completly iced off by the end of the day, and to get to the bottom u need to ski on groomed shit, and its very dangerous without edges. plus you wont be sliding rails there. but its a super sick scene to, nice days u can just chill mtn side and grab a beer or 10, and ski down at 10pm.

but yea if u have any questions just pm me about it, id love to tell u about it.

That's great advice. They're all about the grooming there.. Italy is the same thing and in the afternoon when everyone is coming down, it gets crowded and skiing with dull edges gets pretty testy. Val Gardena is a very cool place to too. The superski Dolomiti is crazy huge - like 450 sq km of skiiable terrain - seemed to be all groomed too.

thanks man, but i found it on total vid, if i order it to my mail box, either the postal people are gonna steal it or my neighbors are gonna steal it out of my mailbox....fucking basterds.
