Skiing in China?

I'm going to China for a whole year around Shanghai area, and was wondering if anyone knows whether theres any decent resorts for freestyle around Shanghai? I'm from the UK so definitely not picky, but I normally go at least once every month for a few hours, and not sure if i can deal without some casual sessions all year.

I do not believe there is anything near Shanghai. It is hot and flat around there, but I know up north you will find stuff. You will have to fly or take the train to Beijing or further north up near Mongolia for some skiing in Alshan or Yabuli. I believe Chengdu also has a resort, but basically the further north or west you go from Shanghai the more mountainous it gets. Japan and Korea are always options. Have fun.

There's skiing in the west of China as well, Yulong is near Lijiang in Yunnan province and is super high up, 4700m at the top, I've driven past in autumn and it looked ok. Think there is skiing in Sichuan as well, though the resorts north of Beijing would still be way closer from Shanghai.

We skied outside Beijing and it was kinda bad. More north you go (some shit near Korea) the more and better snow you get.

Yep, definitely no outdoor skiing around Shanghai. If you have time, fly out to Sichuan and there are some big mountains and a couple resorts. Let me know if you have any other questions about China, I worked in a city near Chengdu this past summer for a month and have been to China couple times. You'll definitely have an awesome experience!

That's sad the indoor skiing place in Shanghai was shut down for a long time (cuz it can't make money!)

The nearest one would be Qiaobo(http://www.qbski.com/sxqb/english/index.asp) in Zhejiang Shaoxing. It's like 125 miles away, 3 hours drive. It's still an indoor one, but I believe it has a small jump and a few rails(at least the one in Beijing has).

If you do want to shred, take the train from Shanghai to Beijing, only 5 hours! Then hit Nanshan---the best park terrain in Beijing, or drive/carpool to Chongli(where the winter Olympics will take place) about 150 miles up north.

Or, simply hop on a plane, go to the northeast, Beidahu, Yabuli etc.
