Skiing in Chile

I think I am going to have me some of this in August. What are the places to hit? Where can I stay at a hotel on the hill and not get assraped for price and what cities are cool other than Santiago?

Will probably go with someone who speaks a little Spanish but not enough to avoid being treated like tourist marks everywhere.

Everything up there ( Valle Nevado, El Colorado, La Parva) is really pricey, with V.N. being the most expensive. Cheaper to stay in a nice hotel down in Santiago across from the Ski Total (where all the mountains have offices and the transportation vans take off). You might die on the road's 60 switch backs but at least it's better than the purpose built moon scape hotel world at the top to VN. And lots more food/night life options.

YES!

Thank you for this tip I needed something like this. I saw some crazy prices when checking those hotels. Sticking to Santiago and taking the bus to the resorts near there is what I am after.

Another trip with more funds to go further south and search for better snow/tour the volcanoes etc will go down but I need something more simple. I don't have time to go for very long either. Also can't be too off the grid for cell coverage but if I am going back to Santiago every evening I'll be fine.

If you decide to go further south, Nevados de Chillan gets more consistent snow and has crazy rolling terrain and backcountry. These are the guys to hit up down there:

That was the first place I thought of going to but I think its out of the budget to rent a car. And it looks like this winter you don't have to go south for good snow they are getting buried so this is the year to just enjoy Santiago and bus up. Maybe rental car for the last day at Portillo.

30/night solid hotels in a big ass city that is safer than any other major cities in South America sounds good too. I want to hit up the clubs and do a bunch of coke at night and meet babes (even if I go with one.)

Can/should you sleep in the ski hill parking lots in a van? I’m thinking of going to valle Nevado in early September.

You bringing that van down from North America? If so that is fucking awesome.

Nah I’m not that cool. Just rent a minivan and sleep in it for a long weekend.

I think everyone there is a God fearing Christian like me and not some loser athiest race baiting lib that wants to see a biological man break a womans skull in mma.

Chile is a good country. I'm seeing directs from NYC for 700. Rush rush to the yayo.

They also have one of the highest covid vaccination rates in the world (over 90% fully vaccinated). Thought you'd be happy to know.
