Skiing in 2024?

I just got done watching Pep's segment form 1242 for the fifth time in two days and I can't help but think if in 20 years when I show my kids this old movie, they will think it is as incredible as I think it is right now. Where can you go after unatural cork fives into powder and switchups on concrete ledges. Plake and those guys must have thought the same thing shooting back in the 80s, but fat skis changed the sport in such drastic fashion as to where fat old men could ski the same lines they had risked their lives on just ten years earlier. Fat skis have been invented and the only technological improvments I can think of in the future would be a lighter core material such as carbon utilized in all skis.

If you think about it, this sport is only four years old. Before then, skiing was just a sideshow for X-games in a 'big air' event and Moseley was making people crap themselves with a thresixty mute grab. Today, every young kid in the park I ski at is on a pair of twin tips, where as every kid in my class five years ago owned a snowboard at the same age. This is a very big change, and in another 20 years when all the 'old school' skiers are too old to get on the slopes anymore, I wonder what the sport will look like. I envision whole mountains that are terrain parks. (I think bear is working on that right now)

But my first question still remains. Will people look back at Pep's segment in 1242 in the same light as Moseley's mute is looked at today, with kids laughing about how their sister could do the same thing, or will it go down as one of the most impressive examples of skiing in the history of the sport?

SHIT that's long. I'm really tired right now so I apologize to anyone who read the whole thing, I can get a little illegible when I'm thinking really hard. But if you understand any of it, post your thoughts, and hope Pep stays healthy so he can make an even better segment this year.

Jeff: Hey Geoff, did Ronny tell you not to wear any boxers so he could rape you better?

Geoff: No, I just put my boxers on backwards so the hole is in the back...it's alot easier that way.

'I'm in his nigger crew' (my little brother in response to my statement that he was in my 'digger crew')

'My knee hurts' (Jeff Merat after grinding a lunch table for an hour instead of sitting in the ski patrol shack for his torm mcl and acl which he got earlier that day.)

'I'm not asking for any help, just maybe for you to get off your ass.'(my dad)

I dont want to think about being old and not beeing able to ski.. the day i drop my kid off at the mountain and say im to tired or my knee's hurt is the day i die a little inside.

its just like wat you sed about plake and that.

they thought 'shit we're pushing it, theres not much else to be done' and look where we are now. something bigger and better will always be going on in skiing. at least thats what i reckon.

'this is just like sex, only im having it!'

I hope that ski mountains NEVER turn into a mountain where everything is park, cause theres so many other fun aspects to skiing other than just the newschool part of it. And if you think that newschool should be the only discipline, then you are an idiot. I'd like to see what percentage of the skiing population actually buys twintips and goes into the terrain park, maybe 10%? sure there would be less people to crowd up the park, but there would be absolutley no funding to support the mountain.

Look at the new swallow tail designs on several big mountain skis, as far as i know, they were only concieved jsut recently. The skis we ski on will always be changing. They used to be ultra-long, then out came the parabolic, then those got shorter, out came the fat ski, out came the twin tip, people started to ride longer skis again. They're always changing, I'm sure that in the future skis will become much lighter, binding technology will dramatically improve, as will boot technology.

And of course, everybody will still want the skis graphics to be cool and wont really care about performance.

i dont think they were ment to do what they really do when they put em on snowboards.

no there is no glass celing it can allways progress

What our sport needs is love, not everyone trying to be cooler than each other.-skimack

i think people in the future are going to ask what the hell all of us were on when we decided skiing on steel hand rails was a good idea. or jumping in the sky. I dont have any thoughts as to what may lie ahead, but i have a feeling that people will look back and think we;re all goobers

I dont think people will look at peps part like they did for moseley cause half the skiers I know have never even seen it and everyone sees mosely cause he is an american who won the olympics

everybody knows that there won't be any snow in 2024. but we'll be back in business hardcore when the ice age hits again in 2097.

i think we're going to be viewed as idiots in 20 years. much like the entire decade of the '80s is viewed today.

I think that skiing has a limit of progression, I dont think that people are going to go 3 times higher and shit, theres deffinetly a limit. But on the other hand, RAILS, I think will get mutch more thechnical and crazy. I think that air to rails will get realy popular and like rails in the backountry off cliffs and shit...Anyways the only thing I know is that our sport will get very differant in 20 years

*~!Live to ski!~*

Over time, most people experience life involving love, suffering, compassion and an unspeakable drive for something new...For me, theres skiing, nothing more nothing less and it encompasses everything everyday im out there. - Pep

I agree with what was said about there being a limit to progression. I don't think we're close to it by any means right now, but i think there will be a time, someday, when skiing won't be viewed in the same aspect as it is today. With everything being invented, its only a matter of time before another 'cool' extreme sport comes along and takes the mainstream by storm.

The day i drop my kid off at the hill and pass up a few runs is the day i die ALOT inside, but that day will most certainly come, which is why i rip as hard as i can,as much as i can, for as long as i can, and enjoy life that much more because of it.

For me theres skiing, nothing more, nothing less. And it consumes me, every day im out there, and every day im not

actually shaggy, swallow tail skis and boards have been around for a hell of a long time. they kind of dissapeared for a while, but in the last 5 years theyve started comming back. but if you think about it, they exist ot help the tail of the ski sink down, and bring the tips up. basicly, a raised tail does the same thing, and it allows you to ride fakie.

they also make it easier to turn, spreads the load a little more when dropping cliffs, and provides more lift when straight-lining. i know what they do

progression is limited only by perception...

the old guys think handrails are regression...

and we know its the opposite.

Big mountain is good...

there will always be room for that...

but terrain parks can go on less steep area...

areas where normal skiing will be allowed...

but terrain skiing will bve the new thing eventually...

all people need to do is open their minds...

and sports like those in the x games will become mainstream.

In the year 2000 all skis, snowboards, skateboards, roller booties, and dirtbikes, will be tossed in for a new item called gravity jump pops.
