Skiing IG washed??

In a world of doomscrolling and iPhone clips, it feels like the media culture of skiing has entered a renaissance phase. I see less projects and movies/edits being put out, but my social media feed is flooded with single trick posts and quick insta bangers. I’m guilty of it as well don’t get me wrong, but is this really the future of skiing social media? The rewarding feeling of filming sick lines on the canon vixia/fisheye lens mambo combo, will outlast the ease and convenience of an iPhone clip with 3x optical zoom. I don’t wanna sound like I’m not impressed by these single trick posts, they’re usually fuckin nuts, shout out mikkel bk, but I wanna see more edits and movies next season and less single trick posts. Or I just delete all social media except for NS

I want to see more 3-5min long edits.

yeah I agree but most people aren't watching them lol. Go look at top rated month. one edit with 60+ upvotes, 5 edits with 30+ upvotes, the rest all under 30 upvotes. Oliver hoblitzelles last street video didnt even get 50 upvotes, shit is sad.

idk it seemed like there were a lot of proper videos being dropped last fall, way more than in the past

I think part of the problem is the timing of when projects are released. There are too many videos in the fall and not enough mid winter

i think that's partly cus when all the hype is. It might be harder to get views mid winter. I know personally that I watch a lot less ski content in january than in the fall.

There are many like 3-7 minute long edits on youtube there all over my recommended. They just have weird titles and kinda hard to find but they are so entertaining.

Hard to drop midwinter if you're still filming in February and not on top of the editing, in which case it makes more sense to wait for Fall

I feel like ski media is in a weird place. Last fall was super good in terms of videos dropping, lots of good street videos. But yeah during the winter I can't remember one park edit that I watched that I was hyped on, and other than the few street edits that have dropped towards the end of the season, it's been pretty dry this winter.

I'd like to see more content around skiing, like behind the scenes, part reviews or stuff like that that sparks conversation. The Stokedelic guy did some cool videos, but they don't get that much views. The P Ring "my war" type of video was really good, but again not many views, especially if you compare that to a my war on Thrasher lol. That's the weird part about skiing, if you make quality content but it's too niche, the views are just not there. There's the SteepSteep guy that reviews street videos sometimes, but he says ridiculous stuff and his commentary is not really interesting to listen to when it comes to street skiing, he sounds like an XGames commentator.

I'd be curious to see how a Gifted Hater type of content creator that puts in the work would do within skiing. Freestyle skiing is so niche it's sad sometimes. We could have so much cooler stuff happening if more people would pay attention to it.

I dare you to post that on one of his youtube videos.

Ahhh yea just what skiing needs to save the scene, academy kids with no job getting paid 70 racks a year to ski everyday on their parents dime. We’re saved!

Zootspace dropped at the end of January. It’s fully possible to just wait a few more months rather than release content in the same week in late October or early November that everyone else does. For guys sponsored by big brands I think it still makes sense to drop in the fall, but for smaller crews and brands it really doesn’t. Vishnu presale happens in may, jetskis drops whenever they feel like it, and on3p kinda releases skis through various sales throughout the season. The traditional retail cycle is slowly breaking down. So why still release content in October? It’s almost impossible to keep up with all the videos in the fall, and I think there are tons of smaller projects that go overlooked because they drop on the same day as like MAGMA or whatever. Then January rolls around and there’s basically nothing, but people are still mad hype on skiing. IMO it doesn’t make sense anymore for small crews to drop in the fall, I honestly think it’s bad for the scene overall

Didn't know it was that deep, I just like watching their skiing. Especially Buttars, his sw lip 2 to p6 was disgusting

I get what you're saying but I think the reality is that most people are not ready to drop midwinter and don't want to wait for the next winter to drop. Also, for Zootspace I think they had been sitting on most of those clips for a while, and Jetskis seems to be dropping throwaway clips. I think the play is to drop in the fall but before the bigger projects drop.

Reels/shorts/tiktok short form videos absolutely cooked this generations attention span. You gotta post your edits with minecraft or trackmania clips on either side to hold peoples attention.

All these kids are better than you at skiing. and your lord and savior Henrik might as well be a trust fund kid with how loaded his family is. This is one of the worst takes in skiing. You are actually saying kids with money aren't good at skiing just because they have resources others don't? You are so cooked homie.

a while ago (probably 2 months now) I was getting a little weirded out by my reliance on wasting time on insta and snapchat so i deleted both for just a week and it completely. reset my habits and i think im gonna do it again soon cause I feel some coming back but it was 100% a great experience. you can also get the extension blocksite to stop you on your computer too

hey he's back

Call me an oldhead but ski movies and content was SOOO much fucking better when trailers would drop all during the summer and it built up hype for premier season in the fall. I feel bad for kids who get to watch the craziest shit right at their fingertips instead of re watching the same teasers over and over or hearing rumors on NS about so and so doing a crazy trick or having the hardest ending part. I think Child Labor, Vexxed, Keeshlife, Magma are doing a solid job of combining that older Freeski culture with the modern age. I can't stand all these 30 sec to 1min ADHD ski edits.

Fuck me where does time go

I miss seeing all of my favorite skiers in one feature length film instead of trying to keep up with each of their individual projects.

I miss going to premiers.

Them being better at skiing than me isn’t the point. Ofc they are their parents spent like 100k a year for them to ski all year and go to an academy. I just don’t respect that, and that’s my personal opinion.

So i guess what im saying is i respect skiers that are good due to their passion, not from paying to play.

Are you aware that Keegan kilbride and a bunch of other legendary street skiers are academy kids

That’s why Shea Flynn is the best street skier cause he just works construction in Maine. But yea, I’m aware. I’m also aware I’m an old head being a hater here.

If you think the ones good enough to do dubs aren’t passionate you’re so clueless dude.

My point is self taught skiers are more respectable to me than someone that got coached their whole life. This isn’t that hard of a point to understand man.
