Skiing hating on skiing...why is this the cool new thing??

What's the deal with skiers hating on skiers? I don't really understand this. It just seems like there's so much negativity floating around NS these days. How many threads have there been about how much Tanner sucks?? There's like one at least every week. Or what's with everyone hating on all the movies??? Things like " Yeah dude sucked!" No ski movies suck..all skiing is dope. Or threads about which crew is better than the other. I don't get it it, soo much negativity.

I understand that if you see a movie and you wish it was different, or it just doesn't match your steeze, or if you were disappointed in a certain pro's skiing that year but why does everyone have to bring the hate?

I think the majority of this negative wave comes from younger, newer riders. Because back in the day, when newschool skiing was young, you'd never imagine hating on another rider. It was a small tight knit group, and something like that was unimaginable. I just wish that things could be a little chiller. I wish that young skiers of all mindsets, of all ski philosophies could just appreciate each other. You don't have to pick a crew, a pro, a style of skiing and then rip on everything else.

So the next time you want to make a thread about how bad something or somebody sucks or whatever ...just remember that it's your fellow skier you're shitting on, and if that doesn't mean anything to you...then get the fuck out of skiing.

word up. im sick of all the hate. everyone bitches about how people who aren't skiers don't understand or respect skiing, but meanwhile skiers are hating on skiers. it needs to stop.

Really well said,

I remember back in 2002 when I signed up for newschoolers, the atmosphere was so different, so much more positive. Skiers were here to help each other progress the sport and the website had just an all around friendly vibe. Recently I started coming back on the site after not coming on it for about 2 years and it’s so much different. If someone post's a comment, question, or video most likely they will get a thousand post's that have nothing to do with the topic and a whole bunch of hateful messages. There is enough bullshit in the real world that we all have to deal with I don’t see why everyone wants to come on here and add to the negativity that we already see and expierence in the our everyday lives.

tHIS is an awesome thread already! not only does capurnicus speak the absolute truth, but grapesoda's spoon is way too big! And i'm a banana!

truer words have not been spoken on NS for a while. Too much hating on everything. it seems like half the posts are ripping on something for some reason

its not just the youngins over here, but all the older guys at TGR hate on everyone too

who honestly gives a shit, live and let live

I have not been on newschoolers in awhile, but its good to see people like copernicus still out there moderating things. good man!! And you are very right freesking is still a minority and we need to stick together and help each other. and if not help jus chill b/c everyones out there to have fun. its a sport and the main thing to go anywhere in a sport is to have fun!

whatever dude- i hate on skiers if they take the movement in a direction that i think is either already been done in another sport or completely unrelated to the sport whatsoever. it happens

"It just seems like there's so much negativity floating around NS these days" it has always been around sad to say

I love threads by mods, they always have a purpose.

I would like to say, I fully agree. I think that it is the younger kids, just trying to stir the pot by randomly making rude comments and such. I think that everyone needs to show a little more respect for the people around here, but, I do disagree with you in one sence. I think that there are some people who could use a little talkin' to, or just to be put in thier place.

I come on here to discuss skiing, and ski products, not to be harassed, made fun of, or put down.

Cant we all be friends?

This thread is right on. I think everybody on here needs to read this. So sticky this!

yea i totally agree, skiers need to show some more respect to each other and stop hating on other crews or pros

can i get an aaameeen!

although i dont think it's just the youngens...i could name a few local skiers in my "hood" that are only a couple of years younger than me (i'm 22) and they hate on EEEEVERYTHING skiing related. "spinning off of rails is lame."

"spinning onto rails is lame."

"trying to spin as much as possible is lame."

rail jams are full of haters these days..it is as if freeskiing has adopted its own counter culture, wtf?!?!

Yes, but it is more pathetic in their case; seeing as how we're just dumb kids and they're grown men with no lives.

And skiers hate on skiers for the same reasons humans hate on humans. Its inevitable.

word, while i agree with the nature of stop hating, its important to remember its not just the little kids, from the very little exposure of pro skiers ive seen, ive seen enough to know that there is mad drama and hating that goes on, some of it even makes its way to NS

it's like that in everything though...but that doesn't make it ok. it's still unpleasant. why should a skiing environment be unpleasant? i hate those fucking kids in the park who hate on other kids' skills. someone like me, who is new at skiing and finds the park intimidating, finds it even harder to let loose and try new shit in front of ass whipes like them.

still though, every activity has its own counter culture. even film for instance. there are film snobs who hate on all mainstream films and only watch independent films. being a huge film geek myself i really dislike when ppl are so narrow minded.however, everything needs its counter culture to move forward in a progressive manner. just like skiing. skiing's creativity and progression needs ppl who pick at everything and want to do something different. but the hating isnt really necessary, however it is inevitable.

I don't mean in any way to say that there shouldn't be criticism concerning skiing on this forum. There's nothing wrong with saying that a movie didn't live up to its potential, or that it should have had more shots from somewhere, or you plain just didn't like it. Obviously that's not what I'm talking about...I'm talking about the flat out disrespect and animosity that many people take. I'm not saying that everyone should hold hands, be all gay, and agree with one another on everything. There's nothing wrong with have strong opinions about skiing and what you like to watch/do on skis...just don't be a dickhead about it.

Saying "yeah i don't really think that seg was very progessive" or "damn, he should've skied better" is a lot different than "oh all the skiing in that movie sucked" or "that guy blows". The former is constructive to our sport, the latter is simply a bother to everyone.

It's really amazing the variety of the things you can do with a pair of skis on. A lot of people really care about skiing, and the direction it's going. But you're not pushing skiing in any direction by hating on someone's riding online. Those who really care about skiing and want to take it somewhere particular don't hate, because they are true skiers who could never hate any part of the sport they love.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be assholes to one another on this site, either. Talk shit to eachother all day, that's what non ski gabber is for. End it there though, pointless hate has no place in ski gabber or the picture/video comments. Don't talk shit about people you don't know, especially based on their skiing.

I'm just saying that if you know someone is a skier, especially someone who's spent their life riding, cut them some slack and don't hate.

i hear ya man. for the movies, each one has there own idea, respect it. But sometimes we need the haters, to show love to what was being dissed.

Back in the day, no one hated!?? Yeah right...remember the PBP message boards? It was out of control. Posting anything there was like asking for a fight. Then, if you said something someone didn't like they'd login with your username and make fake posts. I remember when andy mahre used to post there and brag about being awesome...

It's because NS has grown ridiculously in the past couple years, and it's inevitable that hate would happen, it's the internet. when there were less people (im not saying i was there) im sure people were nicer, because they got so much hate from the others and now newschool skiing is becoming more and more respected to the point where we don't need unity internally as a community anymore to get respect.

people always do at my mountain

by saying stuff about what people wear or whatever

and i dont like it at all

There has always been hate on NS since there was more than 1000 members on the site. The degree of the hate has obviously changed over the years. Another thing is that there is just simply SO MANY more members now that the hate is more prevalent. Sure there is tons of haters on NS but there is also many people who truly care about having open discussions on here without the bullshit. As long as we all do our best to explain our opinions thoroughly without jumping on others for disagreeing with these.

I mean shit, I used to get hated on here back by all of the Canucks that used to run this site in the day when I was a n00b. I was 14-15 then. I'm 21 now. Think about it. People always talk smack thats the nature of the internet. Skiers should really have nothing but love for other skiers though and when it comes down to it, I'm sure when most skiers actually met each other and kicked it on the slopes 95% of the time they'd all get a long no questions asked.

The bottom line is that you can't take anything on here too seriously. Its always been a place of fun and shit talking for skiers. But the thing is, theres only one thing that we all have in common. Love of fresh tracks, guinea pigging crazy lines and bombing huge jumps.

-another well said statement I wanted to note...

I really don't mean that smack talk is bad, that shit's hilarious. Watching kids rip eachother apart here online is truly great entertainment. But that's not about the skiing really, its just about pissing someone off for the hell of it. It's just weak when someone talks shit on skiing, because I like skiing and I don't want to listen to people hate on it.
