skiing for the rich??

Well, anyone that has the oppourtunity to ski certainly isn't destitute. I mean we 'choose' to ski, we're lucky to have that option.

you can't spell sick without ck

if you think skiing is cheap then you're crazy.

costs money to get to a mountain

costs money to ski at a mountain (season pass or not). lift tickets run as high as $72 a day around here now. no cheaper than $50 for a decent mountain to ski.

costs money for gear (rented or owned) rentals are like $35 a day. obviously buying new gear isn't cheap either.

SLTskier: there are so many girls in freeskiing now have you noticed that

stowek2: yep..theres a few skilled ones...a good number who love it and want to progress, then a bunch of morons that are trying to impress the boys by wearing as little clothing as possible and as much make-up as possible on the hill

SLTskier: yeah however im one that trys to progress and impress the boys :-)

the only more expensive sport i can think of is wakeboarding, what with the boat, the equipment, and the gas.

but skiing is definitely up there in price...and worth every minute of it.

my mom is a elementary school art teacher. Our house yearly income: 36,00. And this is with two kids in college and a big fat mortgage on the house. me = not rich by any means. Just because you work hard doesnt mean you are rich :)

now the old man sits until the days when time stood still, the hours always seem to fade, but the memeories never will. All the love that you gave me, the dreams in the night. Now I just want to thank you, while the day's still light.

i live on a farm and my mom and dad are not rich by any means..... i have nice ski things because thats what i work for my ski things. i have a friend that is like that who says its not worth buying skis for that much or boots . buy what you want and let people think what they want to think

^ya, thats if you buy it new, my friend got one all hooked up for like 30 or 40 grand. Those boats are sweet as hell though.

i chill with a couple of kids that live in a 4 room apartment have little food or money, and they kick your ass at snowboarding any day, winter sports are expensive, but not only for the rich

skiing is for the rich. everyone on here is better off than at least 80% of the world... like afgahni's, africans, cubans (the list goes around the world.

we take too much for granted when we call ourselves poor--

we're lucky.

*all hail to the mighty gods of snow*

Yeah, it costs a shit-load, but if you are smart and willing, it can be cheaper than for most other people. Season passes are mandatory, and buying them at early-bird prices is key. But if you go only 20 times a year, it's mad-expensive!

anyone can ski, as long as they got a job, sure its expensive for pops to take everyone out skiing, but get a job and your all set, its the only reason i have a job, but if you think about it, a movie costs you like 7 or 8 bux to go to? and thatll keep you entertained for like and hour or hour and a half, skiing will keep you entertained all day- and its like 45 bux, depending i spose. but really if you consider all the things going on at a ski hill it could be way worse

i ate peanutbutter for a week and a half *no bread just peanutbutter* to buy some new skis... i can barely make rent... hell right now i have 10 bucks in my checking account and rent is due in 3 days... you don't have to be rich to ski you just have to want to ski bad enough to make the sacrifices for it

if you only have 10bucks and have to pay rent soon, how can you afford internet? internet is expensive

It's definitely a rich man's sport, but not the more core side of it that we are exposed to. There are a lot of poor bastards like myself on this site.

Get some sour cream and onion chips with some dip, man, some beef jerky, some peanut butter. Get some Haagen-Das ice cream bars, a whole lot, make sure chocolate, gotta have chocolate, man. Some popcorn, red popcorn, graham crackers, graham crackers with marshmallows, the little marshmallows and little chocolate bars and we can make smores, man. Also, celery, grape jelly, Captain Crunch with the little Crunch berries, pizzas. We need two big pizzas, man, everything on 'em, with water, whole lotta water, and Funyons

i've had about ten pairs of skis in my life. the most recent pair are the first ones that weren't bought used from a ski swap. you just have to make sacrifices

Abba Zabba, you my only friend

its a rich sport, until your good at it and you get everything paid for. and dont go bringin up little starving african kids... that doesnt even fit into this argument... and if it does you should just quit skiing and go help them over-populate the world. and i am a bitch. my parents have plenty of money, and pretty much support my sorry ass. i work... but then i run out of money, and it doesnt matter much. but it makes me feel good having one friend who buys a new wakesetter or ferrari or something every year and another kid whos parents just bought him his second car. so its all relative. id kind of rather have been poorer... cause then i wouldnt be such a lazy bastard.

Ski for free = Get a job at a rental shop = Free lift tickets and rentals. viola

The Olson twins are Michelle you sick little baby fuckers.

The Jews invented tornados.

it's all relative. the guy eating peanut butter wouldn't even have a place to ski (unless he really likes hiking) if there were'nt some ppl dropping g's on ski trips and making the resorts $$ to buy lifts and maintain parks.

but fuck whoever dissed the africans! people in this world suffer, exploiting natural resources for little return, so that we can buy things cheaper and flood ourselves with products.

do you ever think about where all things come from... all the energy, wastes, and means of production? i do. there are social and environmental costs born by processes of manufacturing that are not allotted for in prices we pay. these are called externalities. the truly poor are the ones who bear those externalites for us to live the way we do.

*all hail to the mighty gods of snow*

i work 30hrs a week plus pay for college and a few other bills. skiing is what i love so thats where the majority of my money goes after bills. you do what you have to because you love the sport. fuck all the little trust fund babies who's parents take them all over the country and world to ski and the bastards don't know how lucky they are...they just bitch that they don't have the new cool skis they want as soon as they come out or they don't get to go to whistler 3 times a year. pisses me off. this winter i'll be going to mammoth...first time ever off the ice coast. and believe me that will make my ass poor for a while.

skiing is an expensive sport, but that does not neccessarily mean its just for the rich

I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day

I hate all my mates who say skiing (or mountain biking) are for the rich. I work my ass offto make enough money to buy new kit while they're all sitting about complaining.

skiing is def. an expensive sport, i mean add everything up, by the time you get all of your gear you cant afford a lift ticket

My parents are rich, but I pay for all my skiing. I also have to pay for a car. The way I pay for skiing is by working at the slopes, so I can ski for free. I use the money I make to buy skis and equipment. I buy everything not because my parents are cheap, but because they want me to learn the value of money. I have learned that money has value only when you use it for something worthwhile. In that case, for me it is skiing. Peace

sk3bum knows whats up- that is some core shit man, if someones payin 6 gs for a ski trip there fuckin dumb, thats 3 sessions at windells or anything at whistler, you might even be able to get 4 for that much, what the fuck are you takin limos everywhere or sumthing?

its not for rich bitches but it does cost a lot

2004 VPROS w bindings--820$

season pass to copper 250 $

boots--370$

jacket- pants -poles- gloves -goggles and helmet--800$

amount of gas from drivingi-7o every weekend 1000+$ alot of money

Think of it this way, if you wark hard enough to ski a lot then you will get really good at skiing and then get sponsored or something, idk.

But you could always get a winter job as a ski instructor or ski patrol or at a ski shop or something and you get to ski plenty, so who the hell cares if you don't make anything! haha

On my way to goddom

yeah i work as an isntructor at my hill and its good work because the hours are good and you get lots of skiing in. and you get money!

u dont have to be mad rich to ski.. but it is kinda nice to have a little bit of money set aside or whatever from working and to not spend it all on ski stuff and then have to collect change to pay for ur rent and shit

proud member of C-unit

to ski you basically need to be in the upper middle class. Peaople in the middle to lower class do not have the means to initiate skiing. If your parents can barely afford to pay their rent they won't be sending Jr off to ski camp. If you choose skiing as a lifestyle, then yeah you will be poor, but you probably grew up with parents that wern't fighting for their next meal.
