Skiing faux pas - What Pisses you off?

"people that bomb the hill without turning" uhhh sorry im way radder than you. if im out of control, great, bitch away, otherwise i'd advise you to fuck yourself/watch/learn

When people use their touring/backcountry gear on the front side. I've seen dudes multiple time ski on their Dynafits and pow skis on groomers with a shovel attached to a huge pack.

they could be just coming back or thinking about heading out soon..? some mountains have good access gates at/near the top

When people drop in above you in slack country or popular backcountry areas, like the upper traverse at Alpental or hiking out the bottom of a canyon.

Nothing really makes me mad when I'm on the hill.

I get irritated though when people behind me in line just jam into my skis with no consideration.

when youv lined up a hit and come flying in like a bat out of hell then some dipshit decides to hit it going 1/4 the speed and falls.

that is why i like backcountry way more

There's nothing worse than getting snaked. It doesn't matter where you are or what you're trying to do, it kills your run and vibe 99 percent of the time.

skiing around people that think riding in jeans isn't acceptable, complete strangers that expect you to lively converse with them and act like you give a shit about their stupid lives , people that cant ski for shit and then try to blame those who can ski for putting them at risk of collision and people in huge groups that stop at every intersection so they can all ride as one big road block. OP is a total munsen.

I see it as If people want to ski in jeans, hell let them do it. It doesn't affect anyone but themselves. Do they look silly? yup. But some people aren't serious about skiing and don't really care what they look like on the hill/mountain.

On most east coast mountains? I don't think so

Skiers that don't look up hill and yield to traffic coming down. Come on people!!! I see expert skiers do this all the time.

Uphill skiers are supposed to yield to those downhill.....

People who stand in the way and make it hard for you to get into the singles line. The lack of spatial awareness that some people have crushes my soul.

I hate when fucking gapers get in front/behind of the feature and stop especially when they're in with their whole gaper family and then it's suddenly my fault because it's their kid. Fuck you get out of the park

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Look up rule #4 of the Skier responsibility Cod. "before starting out or merging onto a new trail, look up hill and yield. There are only 7 fucking rules LEARN THEM! Also rule #3 "do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above". People just park in the middle of the trail and then just take off without looking back to see if anyone is skiing down the hill.

Gaper parents that bring their 5 year old kids in the biggest fucking parks. People who do that should snort anthrax

The one that gets me are the ski instructors that take their whole class of 5 year olds in the park. Parents can at least plead ignorance.

"just skiing" ??? There are only 7 rules, 3 of them are ones you really don't have to think about, don't ski closed runs, brakes or leashes, and know how to load the lift. So it's a big deal to expect people to know the etiquette of the hill?!?

Gaper snowboarders cutting you off.

I follow them down the run and make their lives hell.

You're the one using rental skis in your profile pic? And those are rental skis from your home resort? You can't be much better

I don't see why people have a problem with this if they are in control but it pisses me off when it is a gaper that doesnt know how to turn or stop.

Another thing that really grinds my gears is people that hit my skis in the lift line and people giving you advice when they don't know what they are talking about.

I used to get bent out of shape about a lot of the stuff that's being talked about here but anymore my reaction is usually....

JUST SKIING!!!!!!!! IT IS NOT "JUST SKIING". The winter is amazing because of skiing, you get to chill with your homies and do sweet tricks or ski glades all day. It is not "just skiing".

When there's big as fuck queues and people want to ride the lift with their group/friends and refuse to split up and let empty chairs go because they couldn't all fit on, ultimately making the queue even longer.

Gapers that dont know how to stop don't bug me. People should be smart enough to understand that a beginning skier might not know how to stop their first time.

I think this rule is ONLY helpful to the general gaper population. People can merge all they want in front of me, thats fine. I know how to turn, scrub, and carve instinctively so avoiding people isnt an issue unless im going Mach chicken...which i shouldnt be if there are people in realativly close proximity.

My biggest pet peeves are guys that get aggro in lift lines, people that get pissy when a lift starts loading on a pow day and the typical jockying for position in line commences. People that are slow on a bootpack and hold up everybody else, folks that get into a gnarly chute or tight area first on a pow day and proceed to side slip it. people who sit close to landing zones(this applies to everyone, i fucking hate anyone in the general area of my landing), people who traverse under cliffs, people who dont follow the first traverse thus creating a clusterfuck of whoops for people skiing the fall line.

When entire crews push passed and cut other riders waiting patiently in the lift line... like they can't be inconvenienced to be courteous to other skiers. So they wedge in front of you while pushing passed with their entire crew, pretending you aren't even there because their time skiing is so much more importaant than yours.

This is starting to get real bad at my Mtn.

"Onlly helpful to gaper population"? One, don't stop in the middle of a run (#3) if you do a least have the sense to look up hill and don't interrupt someone's run that's skiing (#4). I'm sure your ability to "turn and scrub" is amazing, but when there are idiots sitting right above the feature I want to ski into instead of stopping to look at it for 5 minutes, they need to look up hill and yield to me so I can ski into the mother fucking jump with speed like God and the creators of the Skier Responsiblity Code intended.

Id rather follow the Jesus created skier responsibility code. He's a much better skier than the Gaper old man.

WTF are you tLking about? "Jesus code" is that some fairytale code you made up and supersedes the actual rules? I ski T2B. Don't cut me off newb.

What about what makes you stoked while skiing? I think its rad if you can keep smiling no matter who hits your skis from behind or how many gapers ski right in front of the lip before you hit a rail or when park crew closes the jumps to rake right before you drop. Keep the stoke alive!!

You didnt say merging dipshit. You said skiing. Downhill skiers in movement with direct flow of the trail have right of way. Relax a bit and reread what youve posted before you go batshit crazy.

Not making efficient use of chairlifts on pow days and busy days.

Cutting liftlines on a pow day.

Making wide turns across the whole run that prevent faster skiers from overtaking.

Carving on a catwalk other than to follow curves in said catwalk.

Not allowing faster hikers to pass on a bootpack.

Leaving skis laying in people's way in the base area.
