Im looking for a new camera,which is good outdoors.The main cameras i was looking at are the Sony DCR-HC90,Sony DCR-PC1000,Canon Optura 60,Canon Optura Xi,and the Panasonic PV-GS150/250.I will mainly be filming skiing.Almost no indoor activities,mainly all outdoor.Ive only got to see the Pansonic GS150/250 and the Canon Optura 60.I was also wondering if i should save some cash and go for a Canon ZR400 and put more money towards an editing software?What editing software do you reccomend?Thanks

 
What is the best camera for filming in snow??? everyone I have ever looked through blinds me.. everything is white... duhhh.. which one has good/great contrast?

i know for photography i use a filter you can probably get the same for any camera

^ for the 'snow blindness' a lot of cameras offer a white balance option, if you adjust that the white shouldn't be over-powering.

all u need is filters...i have a canon ZR45 with a wide angle lense and im getting a filter for it....from what i've heard they work perfect and give sick contrast...i would go for a GL2 if ur in that pricr range and for editing software...Final Cut Pro is the shit but expensive...i know there are some other dec ones prob for cheaper u could check out

 
i have a zr300 but i havent tested it out on the snow or the beach

i dont havee $2000 to waste...My max is about $800 for the camera.Then about $100-$150 max for a editing software and about $400 max for a head cam.

 
Check shops to se if there are any demos you can try. Even the feel of one camera to another can make the difference, so try before you buy.

Doesn't matter what you buy, if you haven't got a U/V filter, you'll run yourself into wasted shots, and wasted time.

Pretty cheap to, less than 50 bucks

 
Id go with the CAnon Optura its relativly cheap then you can buy a nice wide angle/fish eye lense which will get you good shots even if the quality isnt perfect.

My brother has a Canon ZR85 with a .5X wide angle lense and it makes pretty nice footage. He also has a battery that lasts for like 8 hours : pretty handy.

i checked out the Canon Optura 50,Elura 70/80,the Panasonic pv-gs150/250,and the Sony dcr-hc90.My favorite was the Sony because it has the LANC port,but its picture wasnt quite as good as the Canons or Panasonic.IS there something for the Canons that act like a LANC port so i dont have to go into my pack to turn it on/off?The Panasonic has a magicstick.Does that act like a LANC?Thanks for all the responses.

I have a canon optura Xi, i love it, its a perfect combination of quality with price. it has built in snow settings too. Just get that, with maybe a wideangle lens, and you will be set. Though, if you have the $$$ for a GL2, obviously get one of them.

do what I did....work your ass off by working a shitload nonstop for a while until you have enough, like working hell I mean. Like 8 hours a day shit....then buy a Canon GL2 or a Sony Vx2100 and then download Bearshare and then use that to ill-eagly download Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 OR Final Cut Pro if you have a Mac....there you go. Problem solved. trust me, it is worth the money for a GL2 but only if you film fucking everything and you make movies ALOT. if not than just get whatever the smurf you can find in the electronics section of Wal-Mart

take a look at any of the panasonic's.. gs 150, 250, and 400.. they are all 3 chip cameras.. I have the 400 and love it.. it has a variety of manual settings and its pretty small compared to a gl2.. its also a little cheaper which is always good.

sorry but gl1 and gl2 cameras suck my left nut

get a vx 1000 or 2100. 1000 sucks at night, but is a bit better for snow, and 2100 is pretty much good all around, plus it has better sound

dude, if your looking for quality you aint gunna find anything legit under $1500. Ebay is sketchy but you can get decent cameras off it cheap. Dont buy a head cam-waste of money, rip FCP off some pirating site or buy final cut express for $250. Also for cameras....look for 3CCD with them.
