Skiing besides park

idk about ya’ll but i do park for the challenge. its obviously a lot of fun but i mainly do it because skiing down the mountain isnt fun for me anymore. i guess its because i started park a while ago and stuck with it. so skiing with my friends is really boring if they dont do park, ill take a run or two in the park and the rest of the day is boring af. so i took the opportunity to become a dual althlete lol and tried snowboarding again. its way more fun for going down the mountain like carving and such is a lot more fun on a board than skis. id rather be in the park with my skis but when im with my friends ill just be boarding so im not bored. anyone else do this?

Nah I still have fun on groomers after all these years. Everyone says they get bored on groomers but that just hasn’t ever happened to me idk why

Skiing groomers is only sometimes fun when there aren't a million people on them. When it's empty and you can go fast and carve hard and hit all the rollers, but then you get yelled at by old assholes for going too fast even though no one is there. Most of the time these are on blues too. Blue doesn't mean beginner. It's not for beginners. I shouldn't have to ruin my fun because some people think blues are for beginners. Steeps, bumps, trees, are all super fun but only if there's good snow.

If skiing outside the park is not fun for you then I would assume the terrain at your mountain sucks. I don't hear people at Squaw and Jackson saying things like that.

This has gotta be a joke, or you must be a real bad skier

You're telling me that charging down underneath the lift line on a fresh pow day, hitting ever bump and kicker in sight, hearing people shouting and hollaring off the chair above... this sounds boring to you..?

Ya ever heard of the midwest?

No it’s just fucking flat… also half the resorts where I live aren’t open yet. So I guess it kind of doesn’t snow.

Nope, can’t snowboard at Alta; I recommend moving here :)

I ski in Indiana... and I still have fun on groomers.

I just ski most of them switch and throw spins off every little bump I see

skiing groomers in the Midwest is fun. It’s a blast to shred bumpy ass runs faster than anyone else there can and get hoots and hollers from the lift for a simple 3 off a mogul

yea powder i dont have a problem with just east coast skiing can get a bit boring not in the park most of the time

It snows, sure. But all the hills in my area are run by 80 year old ex racers who insist on groomed runs every morning. Also, we never get really more than 5” at a time. Welcome to Ontario

“The best thing in the world is hot nasty badass speed”

I still love lapping high high speed lifts with groomers as fast as I can until I feel like I’m going to keel over. I always enjoyed marking really hard turns like I’m raceing.

Groomers are always fun to send carves on. Sometimes I like to show off in front of racers by carving Super G turns on center-mounted park skis, or sometimes carve past them going switch.

Other times I like to find steeps, but once there’s good enough coverage I’ll go ski some glades.

Especially growing up skiing in NY, there’s a lot of side hits on groomers too bc everyone secretly wants to be a part of the side hit society.

Probably should be a post on that unpopular opinion thread. I still enjoy bombing down a fresh corduroy groomer, there is something really satisfying about arcing a huge turn at crazy speeds and feeling the G force crush you into a ball, shins flexing hard into your boots, it feels comforting in a way. The problem is the slopes are only empty enough for this for a few runs first thing in the morning. Otherwise most of the day there are too many people around to really let loose, which really puts a damper on things and makes the runs feel boring. Everyone loves a pow day, but the reality is most days are not pow days. And skiing off piste means icy moguls and coral reef, which can be fun to challenge yourself to now and then, but is not something that gets most people excited to ski.

Your home mountain is in Vermont and you're complaining everything but park is boring? Ever heard of freeriding?

Jesus dude. I'd trade homes with you in an instant.

I love going wide open it never gets old to me. I was carving switch on the same run as some racers today. Can only do that first thing in the morning though before the population triples.

The parks have the least amount of people when they drop off those busloads of small children and let them loose on the hills along with all the jerrys.

Is this dude actually bitching/whining about being bored of skiing? Lol sounds like you need to get into something else then. I cant imagine not having a good time with my buddies or family out skiing even if we didn't do one lap through the park. You sound like a shitty/boring person to ski with, you spoiled little bastard

Not where I ski.

Ski everything switch. Problem solved on being bored on skis.

Couldnt agree more. Learning to ski switch on groomers opens up a whole new realm of fun. Mix in some butters and spins off knuckles and bumps... boom, homemade park to hit when all your homies wanna ski green circles. Not to mention they will probably see you boosting off side hits and stuff and begin to gain an interest in freeskiing because its way more badass than your average Jerry Johnson C carving into oblivion. No matter the hill there is always stuff to jump off, just gotta keep your eyes peeled. Jake Muller does a good ski switch tutorial check it out.

Snowboarding is still just skiing but with one ski. It’s just different boots and binders. Kinda like tele . Or bladz Just do you mang

To the OP, this is actually literally why almost all telemark skiers start doing it, they hit a limit on normal skis and get bored so they try telemark. I had a buddy back in the day that would throw down in the halfpipe with his telemark skis, it was pretty crazy to watch. He would do things like drop a knee on the deck while his other ski buttered on the lip and stuff.
