Word! I go to UConn and i'm also a tour guide! What was your tour guides name if you remember?
But yeah so the closest real mountain is mount snow. It's like and hour and a half to two hours away depending on traffic and how fast you dirve. Besides that, theres a few smaller mountains like Butternut and ski sundown about an hour away.
The ski club does a handful of bus trips that are about $100 including ticket, bus and like $10 for food. They also run a winter break trip every year out west for like $850 which includes air fare and like a week of tickets.
The best way to ski on campus is to buy the Higher Education pass which has mount snow on it and is only like $300. From there, you can hitch rides with a lot of people to mount snow. Just go to a ski club meeting and ask around, people are always looking to split gas.
A fews random bits of advice, bring your skis with you at the begining of the year, some people will laugh at you but mount snow usually has something open in October and you dont want to miss that. Also using a ski boot as a doorstop is a great way for people and girls to start talking to you. Everyone "skis" at least a a little bit.
And join the Outing Club, were the best club on campus and im the president.
PM or post if you have any questions about anything UConn, again i'm a tour guide so i know all the facts and figures you would want.
