Skiing at Jackson Hole

I'm skiing Jackson right now and will be tomorrow also and was wondering what runs I shouldn't miss. I'm having a blast right now just exploring but would love to hear some suggestions of what to ski from you guys. Also if anyone is a local or gonna be skiing there today or tomorrow hit me up and we can make some turns. I'd love to ski with someone who knows their way around the mountain.

My favorite runs are off Sublette, like Alta, Pepi's, etc, on the ridge, and the Expert Chutes are great as well. But definitely hike the Headwall to ski Casper bowl or the Crags. Rock Springs bowl in the sidecountry is fun too.

Just lap the Sublette chair, some of the most gnarly inbound terrain in the country can be found there. Depending on how advanced of a skier you are...if you have the avy gear and experience, head OB to the Cody Bowl...some insane runs back there. I love Jackson Hole, the place is just so epic.

Sublette Chair, Alta Chutes, Paintbrush, The Crags (hiking is totally worth it if it hasn't snowed in a few days), Riverton bowl.

I just finished up 3 days of skiing there, I sure looked out of place with my XL Saga but I had a blast. I hiked headwall on Monday after the storm and it was amazing in the trees. Can't really go wrong anywhere you ski there, just cruise the whole mountain and talk to some locals and you should be set.

If you do go in the sidecountry, PLEASE remember avalanche gear and have the knowledge to use it.

Just because it is accessible from the lift does not mean its not avalanche-prone.

Had such a good time skiing these last two days, there was so much I didn't get to ski though and wish I could stay longer. Sickest mountain I've ever skied by far. We're heading to Grand Targhee tomorrow morning, any suggestions for there?

Like Cummings said, definitely the Mushroom Chutes, everything from relatively mellow to hair raising depending on how you link trannies and lines.

It's really tight in some spots so respect people coming from above.

I spend almost half a day in that area.

Haha… that I understand, but during a normal season, is Corbet skiable well into April?Just need a rough estimate.

(yes, I have ginormous testicles. Have to carry them in a wheelbarrow.

Highly unpractical when going through security at airports)

Into april... yes. People drop corbets with ski blades on gaper day.

Well into April? That depends... The mountain closes on April 7th (i think), but if you're into earning your turns, you can skin up and ski corbet's into june (on a good snow year)

Thanks! To me that's highly valuable info + it sounds promising.

Other witnesses, please come forward!

Cheers,

stay high on the mountain where the snow isnt as baked. All the north facing slopes should still be good. Alta chutes, tower 3, bivouac

Corbetts is gnarlier now than in April umo. Landing is crazy hard, rutted n scoured. April is soooooft. Corbetts to maker to banana twinkie to straight line the cirque back to thunder than back up subby

That's some pretty sweet info. Thanks!

Is anyone able to at this predict whether this is going to be a season of mucho snow or not?

huge season for Jackson, I think almost 19 feet so far reported. They have a contract with forest services so it closes the first week in April which is always a huge bummer because there is always plenty of snow left!

hike the headwall after a storm, specifically go up the escalator off the gondola. ski toads to dicks when the tram line is insane. lap sublette when in doubt.

or just lap teewinot like a boss.

Go left off maker, its between downhill and Broadway. Its a tight little shot/air depending on your speed. Watch your elbows.

I obviously don't ski in bounds at the resort enough. I had to look up both downhill and broadway. I know the line though

I was skiing Jackson both those days! If I would have seen this thread I would have hit you up and shown you the mtn.

There have been some great run suggestions, but I would like to add the expert chutes, always good.

Corbets is pretty much a sheet of ice right now. Last I hit it was the the 16th and it will need quite a bit of snow to be enjoyable again.

i'm staying with my cousin down in jackson, but I can always stop by to visit?

Haha meaty shit in the bowls? There arent exactly 'bowls' like Vail out here. A lot more steeps and cliffs than wide open mellowness.

You staying at the Cowboy Village for your sb2k14?
