Skiing as a medium for culture

You appear to have a problem with run on sentences. Additionally in academia and the professional world it is considered a faux pas to use contractions. Always spell out you are instead you're, should have instead of should've, etc. Thesis also seems a bit unclear, I finished the article uncertain as to what the point of it was.

Sorry if this seems harsh, but if this is indeed a school paper, your teacher no doubt will be just as critical.

I agreed with you up until the contraction rule. That's a load of shit (see! I just used one). I use contractions all the time and never, have I ever, had a higher education professor or an editor say anything to me otherwise. The message is the message and if you get it across, you can't (there's another one. And another one!) worry about little things like rules.

But, yeah. I didn't read your piece, original poster. Try posting it in the news. It's (fuck. another contraction!) an opinion piece and perfect for the NS New system. Keep writing!

Maybe it's a regional thing. Professors at my college would definitely frown upon the use of contractions here in Washington state. I'm sure, different editorial sites have their own rules about that sort of thing, and obviously a place like Newschoolers does not give a single shit about any grammatical rules, not that it should being an informal community.

Since you guys have me questioning my sanity I decided to look it up. According to wikipedia "contractions are commonly used in speech and in informal writing, though tend to be avoided in more formal writing."

I agree you don't use contractions in formal writing. Also, especially setting like there's because it doesn't really pass as a proper contraction

Read the elements of style by william strunk. It's a free pass to write whatever the fuck you want. The takeaway is know the rules then break the rules.

Haha straight up!

Also, any non shredder reading your paper (especially a professor/teacher in England) is going to have no idea who Eric Pollard is anyway or why he is relevant to the rest of your paper.....and he also does not fit to your paper because he is not related to the Olympics at all, any other Olympic hopeful who had a recent injury would work.

OP would you care to summarize the point? I read it through and then kind of again but either it's too late or I'm just too much of a retard to comprehend it.
