Skiing around Marquette University

I'm applying to Marquette for grad school and was wondering about the skiing in the area. Which resorts are nearby and how long does it take to get there from Milwaukee? Which resorts do you guys frequent?

Also, what's the skiing in the midwest like? I'm coming from the PNW so I'm used to skiing steeps, tight trees and powder frequently. I imagine that the weather is way way colder than Seattle.

way colder than seattle for sure, way less rain. Milwaukee is a fun city to party in, and especially fun if you enjoy drinking (esp. beer). But the skiing is just not all there, unless you enjoy park skiing your out of luck. Check out Sunburst for a park within 45 mins of Milwaukee. I enjoyed skiing at Tyrol Basin the most during my time in the Midwest, you can even find some terrain off the beaten path that's fun (snow permitting)

Otherwise you will be in for an awesome ski party this Fall if you go to MU. The Midwest Ski Film Festival goes down every year in milwaukee, and I got a weekend planned that is about to blow minds.

most excellent. i didn't have grandiose expectations for the skiing in the area, but I'm just glad that skiing is around to keep me sane in grad school. that and parties based on or around skiing.

Tyrol Basin is probably your best park in the general area. Tyrol is about 1.5-2 hours away depending on exact location/traffic/how you drive. Check out some videos in my profile to get a feel for Tyrol Basin and other Wisconsin ski hills.
Oh yeah, most hills range in vertical from 250-400 vertical feet. We also get around 40 inches annually on average. Quite the change of pace from the PNW.

Top Wisco Parks1. Granite Peak- 3 hrs from milwaukee2. Tyrol Basin- 1.5 hrs 3. Sunburst- 45min4. Alpine Valley 30min
i havent been to wilmot, devils head but these are the best ive been to.
Sunburst has 10 skiers on any given night, all friendly, most ns, 35ft jump last year, parks on 3 runs, youtube it

im going to cardinal stritch for grad. looking for skiing places too.
i heard wilmot might not suck. they have a group season pass deal, if you buy 6+, they are 300 a piece. we should think about it...
