well instead of going to any of those schools just go to UMass and you'll be an hour from Mount Snow with a $230 college pass, hour and a half from Strat which you can get the Strat/Okemo pass....and a much crazier urban offering than any of the other schools (southwest has some sick stair sets). If you decide on a NH school get the Sunday River/Loon/Sugarloaf pass for $320 or the afermentioned 5 Mountain Pass.

ppl shouldnt b telling you the pass deals, they should b telling you colleges.I go to psu-its ranked #1 ski/snowboard college on the east coast by transworld-its ranked #9 party school in the country by playboy mag-the college 4dom pass with wv, cranmore, cannon, and bunny woods is based out of plymouth, and cannon is within an 40 min drive and wv is within 25 mins ($275)-The loon, sunday river, sugarloaf pass is out of here, and loon is within a 30 min drive, and most ppl on campus who ride park ride there ($300)-tenny is located 6 mins away from campus and is 5 bucks for psu students to ride anytime-and gunstock, which has night skiing is within a 25 min drive, has a dope park, and a cheep college pass-Transwold says that psu has the best urban scene, because of our laid back cops and our wide varity of rails-and in the spring most of the skiing and snowboarding population on campus will make it up to tuckermans revine on mt washington, (i went 3 times last year)

I went to Holy Cross in Worcester, and I skied a shitload. Sometimes as much as 7 days a week. Wachusett is 25 minutes from Worcester, so it's an easy daily commute. Mt Snow is 1:45-2:00 from Worcester depending on how fast you drive. So I'd just like to recommend any of the schools in Worcester (Holy Cross, Assumption, WPI, Worcester State, etc.) because Worcester is realatively close to good skiing and is a fun college town. PSU is a really good choice. Obviously so is UVM or any other school in Burlington. UNH is not bad either, but not as good as PSU. Overall, I'd say that if you choose a school in Worcester, NH, VT, or ME, skiing on a daily basis won't be difficult.
If you pick a school in CT,RI, Boston, or Western Mass, you will definitely still be able to ski, but it would be much more difficult to do it on a daily basis.

Do you know where Amherst is in relation to Mount Snow? A quick 45-1hr ride up 91 to Rt. 9 VT....UMass, Amherst College, and for all you hippies, Hampshire College, is right there within 10 minutes of eachother. I went to UMass and I went skiing for 2 months straight and didn't attend 90% of my classes (and still graduated with a 3.3) becasue that's how close we were.
Besides, Wachusett is a mole hill compared to Mount Snow or Stratton, the only cool selling point to Wachusett is night skiing. Just my opinion so don't get your panties in a bunch.

Truth, MSnow is really close to Amherst, but an hour drive is still an hour drive. It's no big deal on the weekends, but for the weekdays, it might make daily shredding a bit more difficult.

Granted the drive does suck...and it's hella boring unless there's been a snow storm the night before and then you get the pleasure of not burrying yourself in a snowbank of Rt.9 but other than that it's definitely worth the drive I'd say. Something a little closer would have been nice but I spent much of my winters out of the classroom and on the hill.

burlington vt has the best ski scene out of any college town on the east coast hands down. uvm is at the epicenter, but there is still a really strong presence at st. mikes and champlain college. the three schools all have different vibes, so you shouldn't have a problem finding one that suits your needs.
st. mikes - strong liberal arts school. catholic affiliation and location (winooski - 10 mins from downtown burlington) tend to give it a more toned-down atmosphere. they get a free pass to smuggs and host arguably the best on-campus rail jam each year.
champlain college - more of a hands-on focus, strong programs in business and the arts- great way to get prepared for the working world. admission standards are a little more lax than uvm/ st.mikes but it's still competitive. they always seem to be adding new facilities on their campus which is nice, and they have a pretty strong population of die-hard shred dogs.
uvm - the biggest school in the area with the broadest range of academic offerings. between movie premieres, concerts, parties, hockey games, speakers (Barack Obama came through in '08 what?), protests, and general debauchery, there's always something cool to do. the ski club has tons of connections and will be able to provide discounts on everything from season passes to new setups.
