Skiing and Football

While I was watching the Super Bowl, I started to wonder who takes a bigger impact on their body, Skiers or Football players. I can see how skiers would because the go fast and fall from very high heights onto a hard surface most of the time, but i can also see football players because they are big people who hit really hard. So what do you guys think?

230-400 pound men who are in the best shape of there lives running full speed into eachother = one hell of an impact. Skiers also have nasty impacts like in the case of D-Spong, Simon, and Tanner but I think on average football takes more out of a person

well they are pretty much different types of people.. id say football players may take more punishment but lots of skiers get it worse. but i think skiers in generaly may be more flexible and whatnot making them harder to hurt

I play football as well as ski, and from my experience, football definitely gives my body much more of a beating than skiing does.

get hit by a guy like arlaker from the bears, i know i spelled his name wrong.. Not only are those 300lb guys HUGE, they are quick, they can probably run a 40 yard dash better then any of us. They can really knock you.

i also play fb as well as ski and ill be honest i tour my meniscus in the later part of the season and i dont see 2 many people runing full speed to put a helmet in your leg but on the other side not to many football players are jumpin out of a chopper on-to a mountian so yea good thread man!!

yeah but you also dont see football players hit walls of snow at 80+mph, breaking both of their ankles at the same time, or fall and keep going like some videos i have seen when a ski falls and keeps airing off cliffs

how many skiiers do that?Plus football players are wearing loads of pads and still get hurt, still get knocked out.

i do both and football players take more consant hits but when you fall really hard skiing i think its worse than a somewhat bad hit in football

agreed

Skiing is potentially more violent... I guess but they are different style hits. A lot more people die from skiing than football but I bet a lot less skiers would die if they wore full football equipment.

Two different sports cant compare but after 8 years of football skiing is much easier on my body. I never knew anybody that could down half a handle of jack and still have a good football game. Skiing on the other hand...

defiantly football. I do both and I'd say on average the impacts are much larger in football, but there are instances such as dumont or anyone else where they go so big that the impact is just huge. On average though, skiing is nothing compared to football, especially if you have a lot of muscle. If you work out a lot and have a good amount of muscle, it's very hard to get hurt on skis, unless you go too big.

i think that skiing poses a greater threat for one really bad hit, but football has by far more big hits than skiing

Personally, almost any sport. I can't stand watching football.. nothing happens! Watching highlight reels is sick, but i really don't know how people can enjoy watching games that are over 3 hours long and prob have a total of 5-10 minutes of action. Just plain boring to me. But then again.. i dont really want to start this debate

I think over all Football b/c they take all of hits, but if you look single hits it is skiing, b/c no football player has taken a hit like Simons. Maybe that is it?

how bout comparing hockey and football? that would be a much fairer comparison then this one. me personally i think hockey has way harder hits then football.

ive seen more skiing injuries than in football like all the football players i know that ski (like 3) all tore the acls from skiing and not foot ball and hasnt broken anything in football besides maybe like a finger

football is definately worse. I saw a documentary thing on an offensive lineman and they litterally cannot walk the day after a game. By the end of there career they will have shrank 2 or more inches from spine compression. Getting beat on by a very physical and inshape 300 pound person on a daily basis is very rough on your body.

Also, I have talked to Matt Light for NE Pats (family friend) and he said its rough as shit and no one would understand how sore they get after a game

A lot of football players get hit more times but less impact than a skiier taking one MAJOR fall so i think the football players bodies would take more but its over a time. While in skiing you hear of guys taking nast falls only once in a while. My opinion

I also play football and ski, and football definitely takes more out of me than skiing, even when i do fall hard...a friday night takes so much more out of me than a weekend of skiing...

and way serious shit can happen in football...like last season a kid went to tackle my friend and he lead with his helmet...the kid is now paralyzed from the waist down...

yeah neck injuries are a lot more common in football...a lot of pros have had some sort of trouble with their neck at one time or another not saying they have it broke but jammed or stinger or something
