I think that if they had snowboarding halfpipe in the Olympics that they should have skiing to. It twice as cool, and it would create a better known image of newschooler, dont you think.

i would rather not see ns skiing in the olympics.. ns skiing doesn't need the olympics, but the olympics need it. i say fuck the olympics. if it were up to me i would take out snowboarding, & then watch the olympics go to hell.

I think that halfpipe in the olympics would be good, but the level of competition may not be as high as it is in say, the x-games or us open. The IOC, as you know, has drug regulations, including weed, see ross rebagliadi and how he almost got fucked, thats why in the snowboarding halfpipe not all of the top competitors were there. The same thing would likely happen to skiing.

if you look at ross rebagliati on the weed issue, a lot of other athletes that were involved in the skiing events tested positive for weed also but it was never made public.

ns skiing would not be good for the sport. skiing would become the corporate work horse that snowboarding has become and everyone would be like 'i can do that' and you would get 10X the little shit talkers we have now. it's all good if FIS wants to do comps nad such but just keep it out of the olympics

sorry to break it to you guys but although i love skiing don't you think all of the so called pros would be destroyed by aerilsts. seriously. sure they might not have the style but that wouldn't matter to much if they can throw a venus fly trap in the pipe and then a 1260.

skiing aerials is a lot different that skiing pipe. A lot of aerialists aren't even skiers, they are gymnysts. The chick from Austrailia who won at Salt Lake hadn't done aerials on snow until she got to the states a couple weeks before the olympics, she had learned on water ramps. You can't do that for pipe. Also that whole thing about skiing with poles and on skis that are longer than 140 cms. Aerials would not destroy NS skiers in the pipe. Period.

the aerial ppl wouldnt know how to land in a pipe... or would they....

also, style and landing are 2 things they might lose scores on, so it'd be more even.

the olympic halfpipe was so nice tho... they were going hu-freaking-normous

I dont think that they would be very good in the halfpipe. If would take them a lot of time to get good and learn how to throw sweet tricks while they grab their skis an not stay as stiff as a board

Halfpipe in the olympics would be tight. Tons of people think its not even possible to ski in a halfpipe. They should also allow inverts and newschool tricks into the mogul competitions. If it was like the Outlaw Mogul thing in Storm that would be sweet.

There is nothing motherly about mother nature. Except for her big mountainous breasts.
 
AS long as the comp wouldnt be fucked up by the fis, it would be a good thing for skiers, pros would get the recognition they desserve instead of being constantly overshadowed by snowboarding

The problem of having 1/2 pipe in the olympics is that everybodys runs would be to win. They wouldn't try anything crazy in fear that they would fall. The olympics are every four years, no one wants to try something ridiculus because if they don't land it's all over. If you watched the snowboarding, all of the runs were almost identical because whoever could do that identical run the smoothest would win. What ns skiing needs is more events like the x-games where the skiiers come mainly for fun.

 
I almost think it would ruin what freeskiing is all about. You would get 5 or 6 big name skiers, and all the little guys will never get a chance. The sport is young and progressing so quickly, everyone would be throwing the same tricks. If anything, it should be park competition

 
arielists wouldnt own pipe, maybe big air. Its totally different on the take off and landing. Why wouldnt they have slopestyle to? Also moguls could be better if they loosened everything just like ns skiing would be worse if they restricted it. Also say a nobody wins and olson crashes, the nobody who may have just went for it and got lucky will be representing the sport. It would be really cool though but the fis shouldnt be allowed to get near it, the olympics should only involve the fis is racing and leave any judged event to the skiers.

 
By 2006 at the very EARLIEST, we would have progressed so much in pipe. There would be a number of different people able to win that competition.

it wasn't the olympics that killed moguls, it was fis. And we need to go through them to get into the olympics, and last time that happenned, whenever i said i skied, i blushed, because the sport had sunk so low. We do need the publicity, but not now, we have to get more powerfull or we'll crumble to fis

just curious, why is there snowboard halfpipe in the olympics but not big air and slopestyle ...also...i think that if snowboard halfpipe is in the olympics theres no reason for skiing not to be ...it wouldn't make sense...i also feel that it would be good for skiing ...everyone knows that freeskiers dont get paid the money they deserve, having halfpipe would give skiers more recognition and open up the market and bring in more revenue which would translate to more $ for comps and sponsorship

 
There has been a lot of talk of this in all the latest mags. Mainly because FIS want to start a half pipe series and make it an olympic sport.

Everyone should read an article that Mike Douglas wrote in Axis on this very issue. Its important that we know whats going on.

for instance, 1/2 skiing could help athelets, get some major dolla

but then again, who would do the team selections?

obviously aerials are hard, and you need balls to do it, but there are aerialists out there who hardly know how to ski, not all of them, but some. Those are just gymnasts. I'm sure some of them could compete in the pipe, but wouldn't 'destroy' the pros that do it now. Its totally different.

i dont think they would even touvh the pros, itd be like taking someone whose done big air all their life an stickin em in a halfpipe, theyd blow ass, i know i do, but i can still hold my own in on big airs, its totaly different from aerials an i dont see why anyone would thik theyd wreck the pros who have at least like 5 years practice on any aerials dude, the only thing they would have going for them would be determination an being used to practicin hard every day but anyone can do that, well determination an obviously balls of steele, i dont think their aerials backgroudns would help them that much an they sure as hell wouldn't 'dominate'

they allready decided that for 2006 they will have 1/2 as a promo....i dont think any medals are gonna be given...every sport has to have a 'practice' year before it becomes official...they did the same thing for snowboarding

If arialists went in and trained specifically for halfpipe, then they would be as good. but it would be quite the change for them. two completely different styles. one where you need to be straight as a pencil, and the other where you look better if you tweak it out, and add grabs. If the judges kept arialist form in mind, then ns pros would be wiped out. both would do well. but the transition for arialists wold be more drastic, then for current pros.

the only way it would be good was if the judges judged it like it is done now in the us open, x-games, etc. Otherwise it wouldn't do anything for the sport. Just like moguls. It hasn't done anything for the sport since mosley pulled the 360 mute at Nagano in 98'.

Listen, something really bad happenned to skiing a long time ago, i can't remember how i ashamed i used to be that i skied and didn't board, because skiing was for old ppl, gays, and racers. What happenned is that we let fis take over us. Look what happenned, moguls was annihilated, aerials turned to be frowned upon, and even if u were a freestylist, u couldn't make enough money to feed ureself, u had to wear a certain clothing to comps, it was fuckn terrible. I used to be a mogulist, about 5 years ago, i quit because of all the sacrifice u gotta make, and how u get nothing in return.

i think that skiing would become the superpower snowboarding is, and the drug would come into play as well, which sucks cause that takes out about 95% of the ski population, and FIS would be hella gay about it

 
It definatly would not be ruined, the FIS can try to do whatever they want, but people like moseley will be there to challenge them, and puch them to change. It would only push the sport foreward, get more people newschooling, which would make skiing cheaper for us! do you guys have any idea how much skiing is struggling at resorts! The olympics can only attract more people, and when its on 6 channels on TV, its hard to ignore something like freeskiing! Im all for seeing it in the Olympics!
