SkierX&twin-tip skis???

Hi everyone!

Just a quick one - I am considering buying a new pair of skis this year but cannot decide which ones to buy.

I have been skiing since the age of 4 (now 22), raced a bit when in primary school, so I think I'm an advanced 'oldschool' skier. Oh yeah, and I really like skierX racing! Although I sometimes ski in deep snow and jump whenever possible, I'm not sure that standard GS race skis are THE skis for such skiing.

As a matter of fact, I would really like to get into freeskiing (newschool skiing) - skierX, tricks and deep-snow cause I'm tired of skiing on groomed trails. The skis I'm looking for should be some kind of a mix between these 3 styles. I know that all these 3 styles require special skis (and that comparing them is like comparing a tractor, ferrari and a bus), but I'm a bit short on cash and cannot afford 2 pairs of skis, so the skis I am looking for should have to be a bit more all-roundish...

So-since there's a serious lack of snowparks here in Slovenia (now EU-for those who haven't heard of it), the best solution would be a ski that would be similar to a skierX ski (to perform well when there's nothing else to ski than groomed trails-when not skiing in deep snow or in parks), yet with twin tips (which are almost a must-I'm not sure you can land a fakie or slide on rails comfortably on skierX skis) and a bit wider for deep snow... Sounds like THE dream ski, aight? :)

Here in cannot buy any exotic skis (Armada,...) so I'm basically restricted to all the traditional, mostly European brands: Voelkl,Blizzard,Rossignol,Dynastar,Nordica,Head,Elan,Atomic,Fisher,Salomon and K2.

Since I race downhill bikes, I know this dilemma is the same as asking which bike to buy when you want to race downhill, bikerX and dirt-jump at the same time. However, I hope you can understand my situation and point me in the right direction. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thx!

Oh-there's one more thing... I'm 184cm tall and weigh 77kg - which length should I buy? Thx one more time!!!

Word up from SLOskier!

From personal experiance I would get the K2 Public Enemy in length 179. They rip all mountain and in the park.

Another good choice, if you wanted something a little wider underfoot for the pow is the Volkl Karma. I raced on Volkl's and they make a great ski. Get the 185 in the Karma's

Line Assasin MTX Pro. Look into them, from what I've read about them they seem to be what you are looking for, but I can't attest to the way they ski or hold up, I haven't ridden them. Look into them nonetheless.

Just like u said, it is hard to pick one ski, but you are probably looking for something about 76-90mm underfoot. As a general rule, anything closer to 76 will be a better turner on groomers. Conversely, the higher the number, the better for pow. Any of these widths will be fine for park.

Here are a few off the top of my head. Assassin, PE, scratch fs or bc, mad trix, 1080.

The mad trix could be the sleeper of all of these, and i've seen the 2003 w/bindings for around $200usd used on ebay. For $200 dollars, you will be more than happy with them for a few years.

Ski size, you have to figure out on your own, but you probably want 180 - 190.

Confusious say: man going through airport turnstyle sideways is going to Bangkok

I would suggest the Volkl Karma. Twin tipped, and stiff as hell with a good cut.

better to burn out...

...then fade away

Head Mad Trix, Volkl Karma or V-Pro, K2 Public Enemy, or the Atomic Tweak.

I tihnk you would be satified with any of those, all great skis, that are fairly stiff and can rip it up anywhere, The karma is wider under foot, so it'll be slower edge to edge but way better in the pow then the others.

Oi!

Thanks for all the input, guys! I really appreciate it! I made some phone calls to see what's available here in Slovenia and if I can get any discounts... now I narrowed my choices down to 2, basically because of the discount I can get:

- volkl karma (300 euros, I think that's a pretty cool deal!)

- rossignol scratch fs (270 euros, not bad either)

Both skis are 2004/2005 models and unused of course. I know that all these 2 skis are more all-mountain/park skis than skierX skis, but I think that they should perform well enough until I scrape together some more money to buy a decent skierX ski...

So, I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions regarding these two? Would be really pleased if somebody could compare them and advise me, which one to buy - since the price difference is minimal, it is really the ski itself that is the deciding factor! Any other input/opinion/critic/etc. regarding any of the two is also appreciated!

Thx, SLOskier

the Karma would be sick, I don't have anything to tell other than you'd be way ahead of the trend if you got those. Get them in something around 180.

388USD for the Karma's...that is a killer deal on the karma's I just paid close to 600USD without tax...not a bad deal on the scatch's either...but I would go with the Karma's in a 177...i'm 6ft and like 220lbs..and just picked those up for my all around ski...the reviews have raved about how good they are at everything they do...although they're not great at 1 aspect of skiing...I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with them

Oh yeah there all good ski's , the Kona stinky would be the bike for Dj Dh BX just thought youd like to know.

..Seth Pistols rock my fuckin socks..

Get the Volkl 724 EXP. it's twin tipped a bit, way enough to do tricks. also it'll hold a way better edge then any twin out there and it can handle anything on the moutain. definaltly if you're looking to do anything, go with that.

Don't ski the Scatch(FS) they are very soft. The Scatch(BC) would be alot more suited to your style.

Volkl in the Karma would be the ticket, as stong and stiff, or Head Mojo, which is a simailar ski.

K2 Enemies, good ski.
