Skiers Vs. Snowboarders

before y'all pound my ass for this, hear me out.

to stop the debate on who's got the mad style, why hasn't there been any big skier vs. snowboarder comps? not judged completely on skill and technical tricks but on who's got the best style or in lay terms, who can make it look tight!

i dunno cause i think its stupid comparing the two i respect both skiers and snowboarders and i think snowboarders have just as much style as skiers

skiers make it look tight off tables, we are still way behind off backcountry hits. look at all there vids, its either downtown rails or backcountry huge stylie airs. ski flicks are still 95% in the terrain parks.

 
man, if it were based mainly on style, boarders would dominate...the pros are sooooooo smooth its sickning

i think that the snowboarders have the experience...but the skiers style is a lot better looking...the one thing skiers got that totally blows snowboarding out of the water...is the ability to cross our skis...it makes spins look so sick, and opens up a lot of new variations of grabs

 
I agree. boarders have more style in general over skiers. I think it has to do with us having 2 skis. I mean we have to worry about keeping our skis in a nice styled position in the air, a boarder doesnt have to worry about that. Thats not the only reason, but I think its one.

good boarders have good style..but good skiers have better. hucking huge spins isn't very stylie, and why do all snowboarders think they can through stylie tricks before even learning to ride?

Snowboarders have mad style... theres a few pro skiers with sick style but the boarders are so smooth... only trhing that gives skiing advatig is the crossing of skies that makes are sport look sick

U cant judge snowboarders vs skiers equally. Its different sports. It would be like a hockey team playing a soccer team, using both sticks, pucks and soccer cleats and a soccer ball. You cant judge that kinda stuff. Who is to say a 540 on skis is as hard or harder on skis or a board? Who is to say if a mute grab on a board is as hard as on skis.

Snowboarders have more style for sure. However, skiing grabs are more technical. Too many grabs in sking are all about how far can i tweak but tweaking isnt always good, cause it makes things look contorted and, therefore, not as smooth. Skiing doesnt even have things like tindys, tailfishes and suitcase methods, which are grabs that most snowboarders make fun of in their own sport. We also have poles which can exagerate a choppy somewhat out of control air, but arent really too noticable when the air is smooth.

 
if skiers can huck smooth...they kill snowboarders. snowboard style is kinda repetitive...there's only so many ways you can grab something attatched to both feet...and as for tweaking on skis...if you can do it in control, and stylishly...it looks awesome

 
snowboarders right now have the upper hand on style. watch any snowboard vid and every rider has mad style, but skiing just isn't there yet. and as for technical shit i think that skiing has already passed snowboarding in the park, but will never be able to compete in the backcountry where it counts. switch landings right next to the exposed rocks of a chute will never be possible on skis......but what the fuck do i know???

Dylhole, what movies do you watch? Skiers maynot have as much skill in BC kickers but there are lots of good skis movies featuring 90% BC. For Instance all the TGR movies. High SOciety has a lot too.

Also who would judge these comps because it would be totally biased because all the skier judges would vote skier and alll the boarders vote boarder. I dont think it can happen anytime soon!

there are loads of ways to grab a snowboard. í´d say snowboarding has more grabs than skiing, at least now.

and i think it´s skiings grabs that are a little repetetive.

most of the grabs consists of a cross and the different tweaks don´t look that diffferent.

and you can´t say skiing will never be as tech as snowboarding in the bc.

you can´t compare switch skiing to switch snowboarding. instead of doing a 5 landing switch into that chute you were talking about so do a switch 5 in to it.

of course it can be as tech, you just have to do diefferent things.

and when mike d stomps that d-spin 900 off a cliff that´s as tech as anything snowboarders have done. landing switch on skis in powder off big drops would take incredible skill.

there is really no point comparing the two sports and skiing isn´t snowboarding on two planks, it´s skiing.

 
it's impossible for them to have more grabs..... we've got 2 boards..... and we can cross them

exactly...we can do all the straight ski grabs...then all the crossed ski grabs, then all the ones with one ski higher than the other, and then stuff like screamon seamon

 
Ya I think we have more grabs. But unless they are perfectly done, they dont have a s much style as a boarders. Skiing is way more tech tho. Look at anything switch on skis, waaay harder than on a board.

yeah more grabs, but not more grabs that look different.

skiing grabs doesn´t look that much different from each other and a seamen grab is the same grab even if you put one leg over another and anyways seamens are never gonna get popular in spins.

skiing grabs have already gotten to be a bit like 'if you put your middle finger five inches from your boot...'

 
swtich on skis is so much harder than board, well at least thats what it looks like

Yeah for sure, we got better switch and the ability to cross skis, but they got FS and BS when we only have unnatural and natural

exactly. that´s why i don´t see the point of spinning unnatural when it just looks the same.

it´s important in the pipe though to add some diversity otherways it´s always gonna be the 900s on the right wall and alley-oops (flatspins) on the left.

 
There really isnt a switch to boarding.. itsjust the difference whether or not your dominant foot is forward or not... with skiing you actually have to twist your body.

and this topic rules im writting a play on it right now
