Skiers Thumb

Alright Folks, I recently sprained my thumb skiing park a few weeks ago. I was skiing with poles and fell not even that hard ad my pole bent my thumb back. I keep landing on it over and over and it hurts every time. Have any of you had Skiers thumb? and what did you do to fix it.

Put your poles on the right way, stick your hand up through the bottom of strap then grand the pole through the middle, you know you are doing it right when if you drop it the pole should fall, if you drop it and it stays on your thumb then you are doing it wrong

Grab**

Ride without poles for a lil, take some Advil and start using them when it doesn't hurt so much anymore

I've torn thumb ligaments 2x in 3 years, both times ended up in a cast for 6 weeks, and just skied with the cast. Both times, I was wearing pole straps properly as described by Shoey-Ski. I stopped skiing with pole straps (10 years ago) and haven't injured it since knock on wood. Thumbs aren't something to mess around with. They are one of human's main evolutionary advantages.

THIS. I have terrible thumbs because of skiing so I dropped them at the beginning of last year and I broke my thumb last year, but if I had poles on this fall I wouldve destroyed my hand. past that little inscident I love no poles. Also that is quite a valid point of being an evolutionary advantage.

No straps

If I lose a pole probably means I crashed and lost a ski too so I'm gonna have to hike up to get the ski back anyway

I have dislocated my thumbs multiple times when I used poles. Normally just moving them popped them back into place. They would be really swollen and sore for a week or so each time. Least year, I dislocated and broke my thumb in a long boarding accident before the season started. I had to start the season with a cast and skied without poles. I got it off mid season and had to wear a brace the rest of the season. I haven't skied with poles since and my thumb really hasn't crossed my mind/bothered me at all this season. Best of luck. I know it sucks to have that lingering pain.

skiers thumb sucks. i thought i had it in my left thumb after a backseat fall with a pole and treated it as such, finally went to the doctors and found that it was broken the whole time. either way you should be fine because even with a broken thumb i was skiing within a weekend with little pain (just don't fall on it).

Dislocated my left thumb (and tore 2 ligaments in the process) last year in March because of my pole. Had a splint for three weeks and then went skiing again.

In August I realized I still had harsh pains when grabbing heavy objects with my left hand so I went to see the doctor and had to do 20 sessions of physical therapy to regain mobility, strength and reduce risks of arthritis for when I'm old.

Right now it doesn't hurt anymore but my left thumb doesn't bend as much as the right one.

Thumbs are no joke.

I voted not be a bitch, because sometimes I had skiers thumb and I had to use poles (racing), but generally I just ditch poles for a while.
