Skiers that didn’t go to ski school?

Most of your favorite skiers went to ski mountain school. There’s a certain level of respect I have for skiers that are well known/nasty and didn’t have their parents spend extra thousands of dollars for ski coaching. Raw talent and learning on your own is the illest shit. Most of these kids you see in the videos try to look edgy and act hard riding Vishnu's because they didn’t succeed in rev tour on the family vacation. Who are your favorite riders that didn’t go to a ski school?

I have plenty of friends that went to ski school I love em and they are all nasty. I have a pair of Vishnu’s. Just wanted to say before the Newschoolers police shows up. I want to know skiers that didn’t go to ski school.

1. No one cares you own Vishnu skis.

2. I never learnt fuck all while doing the ski school program. It was when I joined the acrobatic team that I received the instructions necessary to master the theory. Back in the early 2000s, there were no ski programs with school, no special coaches; you had to negotiate with teachers and profs to give you a day off for a national contest. Freestyle skiing wasnt a recongnized sport back then.

There is something to say about learning every trick, every rail without having someone coaching you. Its a longer learning curve, but done right and you wont get hurt.

I agree safety does get played in a bit. It is cool that ski schools are even an option now.

Yup local legend. kbane 2 I think is coaching kids now all off self taught shit. That’s G.

i hate ny dudes were doing their thing but the Wallisch superunknown really would be a standout, a non ski school kid who was better than everyone at that time

Not too many op. Being a pro skier is pay to play these days. Everyone knows if you wanna be an unpaid am your parents gotta be in their bag.

Based on the videos I've seen on NS I don't think this generalization is very true

I don’t understand, like hating coaches and all that stuff is fine but what does that have to do with the skiers themselves lol

Also how tf do people know who went to ski school or not. Like how do you even find this information out lol

what the hell did i just read

Mostly jealousy, this guy probably dislikes a certain skier that he knows went to a ski academy. Its a classic example of generalization.

I was going to avoid this thread but its pretty wack to judge skiers this way, everyone gets into skiing different ways and in the end, were all skiers. Being hateful towards someone because they were able to go to ski academy is stupid, its not a freebee. These kids still ski hard and work hard towards their goals, anyone can do that man, you dont need a school to get better at skiing.

To add to this, not everyone at ski school is rich. My boy from VT got into MSA on a full scholarship because he was filthy and had no fucking money whatsoever.

You always find a way to criticize. Everyone such a bitch on here thinking it’s always about hate. It’s a question, what skiers did not grow up learning from a coach. Don’t need to get soft.

I call it how I see it, you're hating on kids bro and claiming you're not hating is hilarious. Sorry you don't agree with me, but you're the one who's being a bitch about it.

Your post was literally making fun of mountain school kids why are you mad that people are hating on your post equally as much as you’re hating on people??? It’s one thing if you said something but you literally called all mountain kids posers and then act confused when people are flaming you lol

I’m definitely confused why you rats get so fired up. I had one or two comments actually answering my question. You guys bitch so much you miss the point.

I went to ski school when I was like 3. It made me into the skier I am today and I couldn't be more thankful for the little learners program.

I could care less if anyone’s offended. I’m asking a simple question.

If you're gonna shit on mountain school kids I'm gonna shit on your post. Is that not an equal exchange?

And again, not all these kids are trust fund babies, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. If you want a real answer to your post, most people have no clue whether or not their favorite athlete went to mountain school. That's not really common knowledge except for comp jocks, and 90% of the people on this site don't care about comp jocks.

i'm a janitor at a top ski school, even though i feel like i'm a better skier than most of the kids who go there. sometimes there will be an unsolvable skiing equation left on the chalkboard, and i'll just... finish it for them

I’ve seen this first hand with multiple friends of mine. If U think that is shitting on comp kids then that’s the shit reality of it. If you don’t know the information just say that.

Jon brogan the illest.

also don’t think this thread is including ski school/lessons as “going to ski school” instead is referring to ski academy

One can appreciate skiers who are what they are from only themselves. It’s not hateful to categorize like this because I believe going to ski academy vs not are two completely different paths of skiing. Both are sick but different. I don’t think it’s fair to argue that it’s not more impressive to be on a pro level, especially today, without having coaching and skiing everyday and all the resources to go with that.

Read the OP again. There’s one jab that’s obviously satirical why you makin it so dramatic lol

What? I didn't even say anything about what you just wrote, the only thing I've said in this thread is that not every mountain school kid is rich as fuck and privileged, and also that shitting on mountain school kids is lame as fuck

This kid gets it ?

Seems like a fair question. Don't think anyone's shitting on people cause they went to an academy. And laughing at rich kids acting like they hoodrats has been a NS passtime/irony laden performance art for as long as this forums existed.

Always interesting to hear a bit about the history of some of these guys. Was probably more common back in the day to get to top level, would be amazed if some kid just learned trips by age 20 without going to an academy.

I remember reading Sammy C was basically a savant, apparently he turned up at bachelor and started throwing 9s within a day of seeing jumps. Not sure if he was in a formal programme after that. Another late starter is probably JF Houle, again vague memory that he picked up skiing at 15.

These are the mf comments I’m looking for. Thank you for the background/info, seriously. Both amazing skiers
