Skiers outnumber snowboarders?

My friend and I live in SE Michigan and snowboarders outnumber skiers here 3/1. He tried to tell me snowboarding is "cooler" and there are way more snowboarders than skiers. I told him if he goes pretty much anywhere else in the country there are way more skiers than boarders on the mountain. Wanna give me some ammo so i can tell him he's a dumbass in the best way possible?
 
depends on where you go, a few years ago it seemed that everywhere around tahoe had more boarders, but recently at places like alpine, squaw and kirkwood (admittedly the places that always had the most skiers) skiers are massively outnumbering boarders.
 
I think freeskiing is becoming a more recognized sport. I know many converts from snowboarding to skiing right now i know on the east coast its about even if not more skiers in the park than snowboarding.

we had a rail jam here today and there's was about 5 skier for 1 snowboarder...

idk if its because snowboarder dont like rail but there's defenitly more skier here
 
I'm pretty sure in the under 25 category skiing is now more popular than snowboarding. I think it has been like this for a few years now. When I was 12 it was a different case.
 
are you distinguishing between freeskiers and regular skiers, because If you're not skiers win pretty much everywhere
 
Some places might have more boarders, especially in the park, but the number of skiers and ski sales are much higher than snowboarding.
 
technically your argument is faulty. if there are less snowboarders doesn't that make snowboarding cooler? if everyone does it, how can it be cool? we all know mainstream isn't cool.
 
according to the annual SIA report, there were 11.5 million skiers and 8.2 million snowboarders.
If you look at skiers and boarders under the age of 34, 56% of skiers are 34 and under, 78% of snowboarders are 34 and under meaning 6.4 million skiers and 6.3 million snowboarders.
If you want to go even further and say skiers and snowboarders under 25.... 36% of skiers are under 25, 54% of snowboarders are under 25. 4.14million skiers and 4.43 million snowboarders.
Skiing is currently getting younger, and snowboarding is currently getting older.

I lived in Tahoe for 6 years, and skied Squaw every day. There were definitely more skiers at Squaw and Alpine. Furthermore, skiers were dominating the big lines at Squaw. That is not to say boarders did not throw down, because they did, but the Palisades would be at least 75% skiers on a big day.

Now I ski Mammoth 3 weekends a month, and Mt. Baldy on the weekends I don't hit Mammoth. I would say Mammoth is about even, definitely a bigger boarder presence than Squaw. There are lots of skiers there too though, anyone who says boarders dominate Mammoth does not know what they are talking about. My ski lease has 6 people this winter, and all of them are skiers.

Mt. Baldy is a cool little mountain in socal. It has terrain that is much better than bear/summit. You would not believe it is in socal. It is mostly skiers. Bear/Summit/Mt. High are about 75% boarders, or more.
 
at mt hood. it is deff a snowboard mtn. and thats all resorts. i would say 2.5-1 snowboard to skier. and that is all tyes of skiers.

when i moved to colorado.. i was in shock on how many more people skied

 
I'll see a handful of park skiers compared to 20 million snowboarders on a given day. But the nubmer goes up every year. Two years ago you would see 1 or 2 maybe per day, and before that you usually wouldn't see any other skiers at all except old people and kids. I think its making a comeback. SoCal here.
 
At Maine's larger resorts, skiers outnumber snowboarders everywhere including the park, October last year there were maybe a handful of boarders, and a ton of skiers.
 
i think that it is mostly snowboarders in the midwest because of lower hills and less painfull. but in the mountains and hihger areas there are more skiers.
 
In the midwest there are a lot more boarders but I don't really mind. It's fun to be able to one-up a snowboarder.
 
I ski in the midwest. I have seen the Freeskiing revolution unfold before my eyes. i remember when i was like 1 0f 4 skiers on the hill. Now, skiers outnumber boarders easily.
 
Tell him that snowboarding is what fat kids did in the 90's

Way more skiers in most of the European resorts and the ski kids are pretty much taking over the UK dry slopes and indoor parks.

 
seeing as that youre from SE michigan (as am i) you probably ski pine knob, holly, alpine, or brighton. there is no possible way that boards outnumber skiersat any of these places (especially in the park), unless youre counting the family/school trips that go to these places that are full of people riding for the very first time.

What he is trying to say is that Any decent mountain in Tahoe there are going to be more skiers. I don't like N* is flat and Heavenly is well you know what it is. Really the only good mountain in California that has more boarders than Skiers is Mammoth but that's because you get all the ignorant ass bros that come up from so cal. Moral of the story Nor Cal > So So Cal
 
The numbers at Mammoth are pretty close. If you ski the upper mountain, I would say there are be more skiers than boarders.

It is true about good mountains though. The better the mountain in California, the higher the percentage of skiers. If I'm in Tahoe I'm not going to spend my time at N*.

 
Where are you skiing in socal? If at bear/summit/mt.high then yeah, that makes sense. At Mt. Baldy or Waterman, i.e. the good mountains with fun terrain, you will see mostly skiers.
 
i ski at mountain creek in jersey and skiing is defintely getting bigger here. people are starting to realize park skiiers can throw down so much harder than any snowboarder.
 
At 7 Springs in Pa it is definitely going in that direction. Like 3 years ago snowboarders way outnumbered park skiers, and then in the past 2 seasons park skiers have started to outnumber boarders. Even alot of boarders I know are switching back to skiing.

Not so sure about indoor at the moment? lots of boarders at MK last time i was there
 
i ride at alpine and in the park snowboarder skier ratio is 5:1 or more that can actually ride probably won't be making it to PK this year lemme know if you ever head over to the pine
 
I grew up in Bozeman, MT. IN the early 2000s Bridger Bowl peaked at probably 50/50. When I left in 2007 it had fallen back down to where skiers out-numbered snowboarders by a healthy margin. Out here in Washington I was pretty surprised at the amount of snowboarders. But it is also as dependent on what hill you're at, as what region you are in.
 
at my hill Bear Creek there snowboarders outnumber skiers about 4-1(no lies) there are a handful of kids from my school/area that use NS. but honestly id rather ride with snowboarders than most skiers any day. this may be just because all my friends snowboard most prob.
 
It definitely seems like there's a lot more skiers in the park here at PC but it seems like park managers these days don't want to let go of the idea that snowboarding is 'cooler' and deserves more attention
 
First off any body who snowboards bc its cooler is a poser. anyone who walks into school with a motorcycle helment in their hand is trying to impress people. Anyone who does things bc it makes them look "cool" or "cooler" is insecure and have missed the point all together. I ski bc its what i love to do. I ride bikes bc i love to ride. I eat thai because its fucking awesome and not bc my tastebuds can take more heat than urs...Feel sorry for your friend because he has missed the point all together about what life is about. Do what you love and if someone hates on you....the joke is on them bc ur havin a blast and they are just mad
