which skiers do you think make +50000$ and dont need any other jobs they can ski as their only source of income

half those probably dont make 50k a year. is this for only park skiers or are you leavoing big mountain riders like seth morrison out for a reason?
 
One of these threads was made recently and the conclusion was that nobody had any idea what they were talking about.

 
il probably get corrected for this but i am guessing mostly only the people you see at the x games. the ones that all of the major companies know and actually pay. there was a thread like a month ago about this and the kid said that jon makes 5 million etc. i doubt this is right but who knows..
 
there is nooo money in this sport nobody makes 50K+ a year i seem to remember on some thread a guy claimed Jon Olsson was worth over a million which is complete bullshit they barely make enough to get buy and talking to a few thats all they really wanted
 
jon olsson have a lamborghini.. he make a lot of money..simon dumont have is own compagny ..i think the majority got 50k and some ones more then 100k

but its my opinion..
 
but the thing is if half these people dont make enough to live off skiing then how come you dont hear about second jobs or that kinda stuff
 
meh, id think only simon, tanner, jon, sammy, candide (maybe sarah burke?) but most skiers get enough to get by, travel, etc, and nothing more because honestly they ski for a living. are we counting dedicated travel/product/entry fee budgets actually, not to mention other amenities provided that are owned by the company (ex armada house in aspen)? because that could make a huge difference, or not.
 
how glamorous is a second job? they might not make much cash, but they get by. sponsors give them all their equipment, passes, transportation to events and shit (im guessing). they really dont have much they need to spend money on. they kind of float by and then when the career ends, they are most likely only better off than a high school drop out because they have connections..... the guys with summer jobs most likely dont have full sponsorship, or they would b travelling and skiing
 
k not only do they make bank on competitions they win, but also they make hella through all their sponsors. tanner is definitly on red bulls top 5 sponsors, and red bull is loaded with cash of course.

i saw some picture where, i think it was simon, was holding some check for 10k just for winning some comp.

you know how much Jon's lambo goes for? not to mention it has a custom paint job, and a ski rack attached, that lambo goes for 250K, dumont makes around 300K a year (before he started empire) and candide and tanner make some bank as well

Wasnt it stated that jon was the highest paid skier. People dont realize there is no money in skiing. Why do you think they have coaching jobs at the camps? Half of the pros are working for the ski companies they are on. There was an article is skeeze about seth. He pretty much stated that there is no money and that he used to just scrape by until a few years ago. Even now he doesnt make bank.
 
I was thinking about that when i read this thread. most of the skiers on this list have a ton of sponsors and probably, travel free, ski for free, everything. Then all the money they make they cash. They don't have to spend barely any of their money on anything to do with skiing im guessing.
 
its amazing how much money there is in other sports,

you would think since skiing itself is an expensive sport more $$$ would be in it

whats funny is that when i used to race r/c cars i think some top "drivers" made close to 100g's a year hahah

its kind of also like racing cars, unless your at the top, you barely get by

 
jon tanner and simon dumont i would say. i am positive that jon does because he has a ski rack on a lambo. and i would just imagine that tanner and simon do.
 
ya it may look like when they win a competition it's a lot but u got to figure that say they make 10k for winning a comp it looks like a lot but after u pay some of that to the gov. your down to like 6k then u figure there's taxes you got to pay each year plus all the bills you pay if your living somewhere plus you got to eat each week so that 10k turns into like $500 spending cash.....idk im not really good w/ this type of stuff but skiing is not that good of a job..but it has to be one of the most fun jobs!!
 
oh and u got to think there's only like 4 skiers out there making some pretty decent bank but nothing compared to some of these jobs out there..just think that's only 4 skiers out of like maybe 60(idk how many just estimating) good noticable skiers out there u see in the movies and stuff that actually have enough to be set for awhile and there's like aroud 110,000 kids on ns and maybe there'll be like 3 or 4 that'll come from here in the futrue to make a decent living..so unless your really that dedicated to attempt to make a living you should ski for fun
 
that would be nice if it could happen like that you start hearin about skiers signing huge multi million dollar contracts but that's not what the sport is about i would say if you had enough to travel,film,support yourself and your girl, and a lil extra sum sum to look good then that's all you should need

has anyone ever though, that people like jon may have inherited money aswell. although i do think jon is one of the highest payed skies today.
 
Also, most contracts are based upon incentives. These incentives are thing like comp winnings. Most companies will match what you win in comp up to a certain limit. So if a big pro, like Tanner, wins 10k in a comp, redbull pays him 10 k, armada pays him 10k, and oakley pays him 10k. Shit adds up quick.

There are also incentives for showing products in pics and movies. A pic in Freeskier with an Oakley symbal pays a certain amt, and every second an oakley symbal is shown in a clip of a movie, he recieves some pay for that.
 
yeah word thats why when Jon won the x games big air he was all like "im going to buy a rolls with a ski rack", cause he probably made like 200,00 with all his dope sponsorships, air-time, photos excetera
 
are you making 50k this year? thats a pretty substantial amount of cash, imo.

i lived pretty well the last year, and i only made about 8k after taxes. i can only imagine what could be done with 50k.

i would say most skiers dont make very much money, they just bust a lot of ass in the summer so they can ride a lot in the winter.

 
forgot who the skier was but in SSD, during a guys segment, he says matchskick pays him six digits a minute of film.
 
yup exactly. I heard tanner gets 300k from armada, 100 from redbull and oakley and 30 from pcmr. Tha might explain why he lives in a multimillion dollar house and drves  bmw. In a freeskier interview in 2004 he said he was a millionair
 
everyone seems to be forgetting gagnier, he rocks the target logo so I'm sure he's pullin in some loot. And to everyone who says there's no money in skiing and only jon and tanner make over 50k.... that is super incorrect.
