Skiers don't have any control.

Well im glad that JD left he can go suck a nut. Just becuse you have been here longer, dosent make you right on eveything.

It would be nice for more smaller compneys to come in and other bigger ones to go out. We only have another 10 or so years, if that. People will lose intrest and money will go other places.

Skiing as an industry is on the out. Numbers have been falling over the years and chances are they wont come back. Familys dont want to drop 300+ for a day of skiing, meaning new kids who go out and try it.

Watch over the next 5 years compneys will start to fade out more, not as much skiing will be on TV and the comps will get smaller. One good side is it will be the hardcore skiers left, not 14 year olds whos parents buy them a 800$ set up and go out once and a while, then go on NS and talk shit.

One more thing fuck JD, glad he is gone.

 
I don't agree with you... those huge compagny are needed in whatever domain you need they are the ones that put the sports mainstreem that will keep it progressin throug the ages for the moment the rider owned compagnies aren't enough big to do that job. Just like burton is for snowboarding.

we need to keep those compagnies for the moment.

^ they are needes yes, but they are not needed at a ponit in the sport where rider compneys like line, armada, ninthward and liberty are selling skis.

Burton was needed, but now is not as much, snowboarding could live with out it. I ski with alot of snowboarders, and most of them despise burton becuse what they have done to the sport in the past few years.

Skiing can take out alot of the larger ski compneys, and make it. Comps like Xgames would not be the same, but i could do fine with out seeing that shit each year.

 
i dont know andy, i wouldnt say the numbers of freeskiers are dropping because they are not, ns is increasing day by day, and i see a hell of a lot more kids with twins, theres no way the number is decreasing and this is the reason a lotta new companies are stepping onto the scene

andy I agree with you but what I think is that those big compagnies aren't enough big right now to support the whole industry. We need to wait a little bit to see those compagnie expand so they can get more mainstream.

Freeskiers might be on the rise, but skiing as an industry is falling. And lets face it freeskiing makes up a small % of that industry.

 
and there will be less freeskiers in the years to come if the whole industry is declining. thats the ski industry's fault for making it a rich person only sport.

There are too many amazing skiers and not enough companies to support them. Each company can only have so many riders on their team. I think there are waaay more really good riders who aren't even sponsored than in snowboarding because they have so many little companies. Its starting to grow in skiing, and there are starting to be a few more kids getting their money, but it'll take a few more years.

Remember when you could list every single pro skier's name?

 
I think you have a good point overall, But I think Line actually did havee some problems with Turpin. You have to look at other things besides results. I dont know everything behind some of the stories, but An athlete has to represent more than just a sponsor, they have to represent an ideal, and Line thought that Turpin wasn't doing it. He was out there oushing Line, but you have to be the whole package. I dont need to star rumors, but Turpin wasn't filling that requirement.

It's funny that the core arguments of this whole thing are as follows:

Some pro skier got offered more money by another company. Their original company wouldn't match it, so they went to the other company for more money. That means that ski companies are fucked up, and don't treat their riders right.

That doesn't make any fucking sense. Those skiers whose companies wouldn't support them right? They're making more money now with companies who will. What's so fucked up about that? Who gives a fuck if one company won't match another company's offer? Skiing isn't the only sport where that happens.

Wow...this thread is super old. I think a lot of things have and are changing and I don't neccessarily beleive that some of my opinions ring true anymore. Also, I haven't been involved in the industry for over a year now so I really wouldn't know...
