Skiers average salary???

that depends on who, someone like tanner who wins a lot of comps probly makes somthin like 40k, but most dont make too much, ne one know how much morrison makes tho?

now dont flip out on me if im wrong, but i would imagine guys like tanner make well into 6 figures with all their sponsors and media coverage, not to mention winning comps. i might be wrong so dont get your panties in a bunch.

they make hardly anything. they dont get paid for being sponsored usually, and its just the raceers who get paid a bunch. skiing isnt about being paid, thats why they have to work other jobs and when they cant ski anymore theyre screwed.

 
how do they not get paid by their sponsors? They have to be paid to be in those ads. Theyre paid to go skiing on trips and stuff. I think they make a pretty comfortable living. Nothing super crazy but its not like theyre even close to poor. Don't yell at me if I'm wrong. Its possible.

youre right about getting paid for the ads, sorry i didnt think of that, i thought you guys meant that they would get paid just for the fact that they were sponsored. they dont have a very nice living though, i know that much for a fact.

I read in an interview Tanner's parents said he makes 6 figures. I heard JF has like a 60,000 dollar contract with Rip Curl. So some make the cake.

 
its not about being sponsored they make their money by putting their name and face in ads and getting deals with other things

When they win comps, their companys pay a certain percent of what they win on top of their winnings. My friend is on Salomon international and they pay him like 80 percent of what he makes at comps, so he won like 2 grand at the us open and really got 3600, not to mention he didnt have to pay for travel and whatnot

believe me these guys make more than you thikn they would, for example, guys like mike atkinson... a pro who is not even very well known told me at HN that he has like 3 cars, one of them being an Acura NSX, which is like an 80 thousand dfollar car... so dont thikn they are ski bums who are living pay cheque to pay cheque... altho they are nothing like what football and hockey players make they are still well paid

What the hell were they doing with a car on the moon?... havent they gone far enough?
 
i thought i red in freeze tha the best skiiers or at least the most popular ones (ie: tanner) make up to 100 000 a year.

Last year CR made 90,000 just from contests he won

and that franc thing, buddy...there's a HUUUUUUUUUUUGEE difference between Francs and Euros man...I'm not 100% but I would say 1 million Francs is about $300,000 So Candide still made some serious cash

 
but they dont need to spend cash on ne thing but food and housing, most pros r sponsored by there local hills which provide food when there on the mtn for free, jon is sponsored by vw and has a free vw passat with all the accessories, and one of his sponsores pays for gas and insurance, and all sponsores pay to use there products so ya u may not make alot but u dont need to spend money on most things other people have to

well,

tanner gets his comp money matched by each contract he has. at least when he was riding for rossignol. and he gets paid for ads, tv, photos, video segments, and everything he does is paid for.

he definately makes a high 6 figure salary.

 
last year i heard that tanner racked in $250,000+ from sponsors and comps and all that...Its probibly all invested into Armada now but he'll make it back for sure

 
Pros make a lot, Jon Olsson, Tanner, CR, and Candide make tons off of comps. And their sponsers pay around $5000 a month each, i read it in some article talking about how much skateboarders make compared to the rest of the industry, snowboarders were pretty high too and the lowest by far was rolling.

bode's contract is nothing like that. he get around 1.2 million if he wins all his shit. that means maximum podeiums, lots of coverage ect. its all about how much the rossi logo makes it onto the big screen. And for those who dont think its fair that he get paid so much more, hes got it bad. lets say tanner makes 50 grand a year. bode, with a halfway decent skiing season gets 500,000. now thats 10 times as much. Now, ski racing is way more then 10 times as popular then freesking, so if anything, bode's gettin the short end of the stick. its all about advertising, bode's just one big rossi billboard.

I don't know how this works in free skiing, but I heard ceratin pros make a bulk in money backing products. Like Moseley did with head. I heard he actually got money for the number of skiis sold. Dunno if its all true, but it would seem to make some sort of sense.
