I have been reading posts, threads and other riders. I have come to notice a problem:attitude. I must say that peoples attitude has got to change on NS and on the hills.

I know that most people are playing the teenage "coolness" game by shit talking and using gangster talk. You know what I mean; the "Yo fucker" and "nigga" or "yo da fucking bitch". It may look cool to you,but I think it looks pretty stupid. The sport of skiing now looks stupid. Most members (mostly newbs) take pleasure of making themselves look stupid by trying to be cool.

Skiing is not a sport for rich stupid people.But, this is the image you are giving it.

Second point; insults on the ski hills.I am sick of getting laught at because I do moguls. Even in big air competitions I get laught at. I am not a bad rider. I know that there are always bad apples in every sport, but skiing seems to have too many.A lot of people get turned off from skiing because of this.

I help people learn how to jib and jump. I get a lot of respect and I make a lot of friends. This is what skiing is about;progression and friendship. I want to keep it that way and I hope you do too.

This whole thread that I have created is to make you realise how your attitude is destroying the sport. All I want from people is to grow up, watch what you say and how you say it. If everyone puts in an effort we will make skiing the sport everyone wants to do.So please people if you don't do it for you, do it for the bunnies.

Well said.....If mayb a little to harsh it has got some truth to it....Although there are some pretty chill riders as well
 
a lot of people here arent great skiiers, just great computer users. i'm not that good but you wont see me flaming people on or off the hill....unless there with b-crew. this should be stickied
 
there are alot of people who hate on skiers and shit if they are really good, or even if they are learning just because they arent great or because others are jealous of their skill. it is basically ruining skiing and the fun we have doing it. i vote it ends
 
my friend that snowboards went to killington the other day and he said all the skiers there wer all acting all ghetto n stuff n that it made them look stupid and had no respect for that shit
 
Exactly^ that's the kind of stuff that steriotypes our sport, not just at times. But constantly and I hate it.

i agree the hate must end, but we also look like a bunch of punks bc we are all young. how many old people do you see skiing the park?
 
there werent any when i posted but now there are. this might be worthwhile to sticky. i realize that this thread is an opinion but it is VERY valid and often proved true
 
Basically, for me I don't try to act like a dick on the hill because talking to people is wrad, but if people do something that does not look good, I will pretty much tell the truth and say that it looks terrible. But hopefully I do my best to say what they can do better. And compared to people that are out there, I'm not even close to half of the skill some of those people possess. I only hope that someone who is wradder than me will tell me how to improve as well.

My attitude on the hill is odd, Im not going to lie, I completely change my voice, so it's almost a drawl, and then I will just be as friendly as I can. Then I usually dont talk to them anymore.
 
I know what you mean man...everyone is so self-indulged with trying to make themselves look better than everyone else that they forget about respect. There is seriously no respect between skiiers right now. It needs to change...we gottta start being a little nicer to each other before we all out judge someone.

well said, but for every dick, theres some sick people out there too. Prior to 4 years ago, i was just a casual skier who like going down the hill and just cruising. Then 5 years ago on our school ski trip, we were at okemo and cruising through the mini park on our rossi bandits. There was an 8 foot long like 8 inch high rail set up and all these kids hitting it, and we watched for a second and some guys on twin tips told us to try it. They were like 6 years older than us and helped us learn how to hit the rails and were really cool about everything even though we sucked balls. Without people liek that, i dont know if i or my friends would have ever gotten into skiing liek we are now
 
Some of that is true, to an extent, but that was way too big of a generalization. Not all kids are dicks, and not all kids try to be gangster. I guess there is a little of everything. What you have to realize is that we can't control other people. Their shitty attitude isn't going to get them anywhere. They could be the best skier out there, and with a shitty attitude piss too many people off and never make it in the industry. Sure many professional athletes are cocky arrogant fucks, but they didn't start like that, it was aquired through success and constant attention. To truley be good at something, you have to have the skill, and the personality, because there is an amount of politics in everything.

yep, way to go lowrider, you proved a point, that for most people didnt need to be proved again. aslong as we can continue to mentor the young ones and teach them to do the same to the younger gen. while still being chill with everyone, than we can progress as a community and not as individuals
 
all you people agreeing are just pussies who cant ski. you make the sport look gay. all you gapers in tight pants and coats zipped all the way up to your chin.

It seems like all the skier kids think they are straight frome the ghetto, i mean they ski on a mountain. why act so gangster?

It seems to be an age thing. Like you mentioned teenagers and their constant struggle to be cool in their friends eyes. As you get older you, and if you still pursue the sport of skiing, you realize what skiing REALLY means to you. It has ZERO to do with the latest jacket and the newest skis. It's about having fun, being with your friends, and being in the moment, where nothing else in life matters except for the next turn you're going to make, the next rail you're going to slide, or the next jump you're going to hit. Granted, this is not true with all younger skiers, but skiing has become image driven, much as snowboarding became, and to some extent, still is. I think the kids that act ghetto and ganster on the hill, won't be skiing in 10 years because they don't have a true love for the sport.

It's good to see that a lot of people see my point and accept it. It is some proof that not everyone are dicks. It is also good to see that some of you guys wish to change the steriotypical dumbass rider image. I don't understand why some try to get the Mods involved. This is not offensive in any way. I just wanted people to wake up and start changing their attitude toward skiing and other rider, good or bad.

For to whom it may concern, its not to late to change!
