Tim is running out of money and trying to take money from all of the companies in the base area and such and running some out of buisness like cba

the whole thing about this is that next ski season he might not have a halfpipe?? idk why

i was just up there for the fourth and it was sickkk. my friends told me about it and i was like wtf

 
ya it sucks cause CB is fun as shit, but it's not to bad cause there pipe is horrible anyways and CB is so sick for the steeps so that's what u should be skiing if ur there instead of there icy park and pipe
 
Alrighty, I lived in Gunnison for the last 4 years and these are observations of CB. Correct me if needed Sac...

Steeps: The reason you go to Crested Butte. This past winter was epic, record snowfall and really well bonded snow (well, most of the season). Places like Teocalli Bowl, Third Bowl, Funnel, Spellbound/Phoenix Bowls...so good. Just be prepared to wrestle for lines with locals. When snowfall is abundant, no better skiing in Colorado (save for a few BC areas). That is just it though, when snow is not in abundance it gets pretty lame.

Park/Pipe: This is a Jekyll/Hyde situation here. The pipe this year was amazing, the first cut was excellent and was maintained well throughout the season. It is short though (4 medium/big hits tops), super fun though. Which what is kinda weird because the park was awful, except for the last day of the season...once again, weird. No big jumps, no innovative rail set ups, and the lips of the jumps were just simply too much (sometimes literally steeper than the landings).

It just depends what you want to do, you will not become a park star at CB. You will be a better skier though, it is crazy how good some of the locals are...and many unsponsored.
 
I gotta step in here and say something- Tim, Diane, the ASC, Vail, Me and everyone else in the ski industry is sweating things like this for a very good reason- the economy is failing. The resort is not. The thing that many of you kids probably don't understand yet is that when gas prices, health insurance, food, and everyday life is becoming impossibly expensive, skiing is the last thing you can truly afford to do. CBA has never been a profitable business, and has faced many many challenges in its 15 or so years of operation. Crested Butte is a wonderful place, but a very wonderfully hard place to access. Thus, an academy here is damn near impossible to sustain. I was a coach for the freeride team for two years at CBA and believe me - travel was nothing short of tiring and troublesome. If it is true that there will not be a halfpipe next year I, along with everyone else will be dissapointed- but a half million dollar expense that ISN'T a competitive advantage of CB's sometimes hits the chopping block pretty quick in economic times like this. Come to CB for the steeps- and I promise you that you will never experience better in bounds anywhere.
 
i have never skied there but some of my friends said that the park was pretty fun. but then again, they ski at durango mountain resort every weekend.
 
cb fucking rocks. dont live there, so i guess from a locals perspective who likes to ski park its different but i never touch the park when im there. but yah man it is kinda hard to get to and stuff and a pipe is a huge investment that never sees much at most resorts so i can see why they could cut it out. hey maybe if they cut it out they will put some of that saved money toward building better jumps
