Skiers are NOT snowboarders

i really really wish this issue would stop coming up in the ski/snowboard world about who copied what and who imitates who because it really doesnt matter. who cares what we wear or what they wear its all really the same and really we are no different. we all hav to share the hills and lifts and parks. besides i hav a lot of respect for good snowboarders and i would hope they hav some respect for us. anyway it really doesnt matter if you ride on 1 base or 2 or if you hav hav 2 tips or 4 we all hav to get along anyway because we aernt any different.

i just wanna say that both my best friend and my brother ski and i snowboard i love snowboarding and freesking hence the reason im on this sight i love watching movies with them im so stoke on some of the thing they throw and my bro and my friend love watching snowboard movies with me and i ride with then all the time i dont have anyfriends that snowboard so i only ride with skiers and they seem to push me more than some snowboarders i dont think that anyone should hate on anyone skier or snowboard thats all i gotta sat

compared t the differences between skater and rollerbladers, skiers and snowboarders are like twins. notice i use the participants as opposed to the sports as my example. skiing and snowboarding may be drastically different, but are the athletes really that different? i mean, skateboarders and rollerbladers have nothing in common, there is a huge rift there, and that rift DOES NOT exist between skiers and snowboarders, even though the media makes it seem that way.

Who gives a fuck if we're similar? It's not the same sport. If you do your thing as a skier, you'll never be hand in hand with a snowboarder.

Nothing bad about snowboarders, it's just pretty damn obvious that snowboading is not skiing, thus snowboarders are not skiers. Thats why they have different names. Thats why they ride on one board and we have two.

The truth of the matter is that young people ride snowboards and young people ride twin tips....currently this is mostly the case because twin tips and our style of skiing is new and snowboarding is rather young as well....most of the older generations ski moguls and groomers....can you imagine what would happen to a 40 year old man trying to learn a 540 on a 60ft table top....anyhow alot of kids have attitudes so freeskiers and snowboarders are generalized as young people rebeling against society. Eventually we will grow up and our bodies will no longer be able to handle hitting the ground so hard and we will no longer throw big tricks and you will start to ski in different ways as you age.

We can never be just like snowboarders...those assholes push all the snow down the mountain...it really pisses me off

the two should just balance off of each other, and work together to promote. i snowboard, and i think both sports and really tight and both skiers and snowboarders get props. we ride the same terrain, so we should all have fun.

A. Please explain how we are trying too hard to be like snowboarders.

B. Please explain that if skiing and snowboarding ARE very alike, and, 'go hand in hand' as you said, why that would be a BAD thing.

C. Realize that the sports are similar because of the people that are doing them. The general newschool scene is from younger kids to adults under 30. IN GENERAL, I DONT CARE IF YOU ARE 31. Now, it is safe to say snowboarders are the same generation. We are all very similar. We wear the same clothes, listen to the same music, etc. The connections in the two sports are inevitable.

this isn't an anti-snowboarder thing at all, but there's just more that you can do on skis. I mean skiers are capable of doing more, im not saying that one is better than the other, but because skiers legs aren't connected to the same board like snowboarders theres just more that they can do in terms of style. There's also a lot more than the park and pipe to skiing, snowboarders may race and hit up the backcountry, but they dont hit the speeds that skiers can hit, not because their worse, just because skiers are just capable of going faster.

Sorry if this has already been said but I didn't read every post. Anyway, the way I look at it is that snowboarding copied skiing more than anything right off the bat, but since it had so much youth it got a more 'extreme' image from the start, and now that skiing finally has attracted enough youth it's moving in the same direction - new style, clothes that are more like the ones they wear on the street, and progression in all directions. If a snowboarder EVER gives you or a skier you know shit, tell them to get out of the SKI resort and go to a snowboard-only one.

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
 
It doesnt really matter to me but if you talked to anyone that was around when the 'New School' started they will tell you that they saw what snowboarders were doing and they wanted to do it on skis. If we didnt have snowboarding there would be no 'New School' though.

Its now cool for snowboarders to switch to skiing and that is the reason why.

I have heard some of old school guys talking about it and thats basically what was said in the coversation.

i think that the snowboarding style and tricks started earlier than the skiings style and tricks, and that how they evolve, we evolve also, like now snowboardings kinda mellowed out, but still kicks ass, and skiing will be like that too.

ummm...i'm pretty sure this is just a big misunderstanding. you see i don't think ivan would totally bash snowboarders because one of his best friends is one and he rides with him all the time. what he's trying to say is really hard to word and i think it got taken COMPLETELY the wrong way so just stop the hate. it's not worth it.

its pretty obvious that the NATURAL progression is more towards where snowboarding is at and skiing is quickly headed. and by natural progression i mean the way people think and what influences the top atheletes in our sport who in turn influence us.

the fact of the matter is that everything we see and hear and do influences us... and style will evolve... its only natural that clothing will get more comfortable, and style will get smoother...

if we try to force anything to differentiate ourselves from snowboarding well look like idiots. The fact of the matter is this: if our style and the way we dress and act and everything else is exactly like snowboards, we still are unique in the fact that we SKI.

end of story. so stop bitching and moaning about baggy pants.
