Skiers are NOT snowboarders

Okay, I'm not going to bring Tanner into this, but this is what I think. Skiers aren't snowboarders. From what I've noticed, it seems to me like we are all trying to copy snowboarders a little bit too much. Sure, of course we are going to do their tricks, we wear baggy pants, etc.....But where do we draw the line? Now, I'm not trying to throw out my own personal opinion, but really, what do you guys think? Eventually are newschool skiing and snowboarding going to go hand in hand, just like that? Eventually, how are skiers going to be different from snowboarders? Cause, it looks to me like we are going to follow in snowboarders tracks for a while.

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

umm..I think your retarted if you think were the same because of the clothes we wear. It not the clothes its the aititude, atmosphere, and style...

'Eventually are newschool skiing and snowboarding going to go hand in hand, just like that? Eventually, how are skiers going to be different from snowboarders?'

uhhh....we have two boards and they have one

Yeah, sorry, I can't really explain myself. There are def. some awesome things that boarders have (and will) give us. Style especially. But, I just don't want skiing to have a stereotype associated with it. Like, 'Ah, all those skiers are just pot smoking, gangstas, who get in the way.' You know?

p.s. I'm not NOT personally against those things

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

OK, its the attitude. I don't want skiers to get a snowboarding attitude.

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

Well, around where I live, I don't think snowboarders are very well respected by the general public. But skiers should be.

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

For instance, the other day, some friends and I were checking out an urban rail, and some guy came up to us and was all like, 'Whats wrong, lost your snowboard or something?' (our skis were still in the car) and he said it all in a way that was kinda making fun of us. Then he saw our ski boots and was like 'oh, you're skiers. Well, thats okay then.'

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

Okay, I'm not going to say anything else until I can figure out what I'm trying to say. It makes sense in my head, but I can't explain it very well in words. Okay? So don't get all pissed off, contrary to the common behavior on newschoolers. Thank You

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

maybe i'm trying to say that this whole 'gangsta' thing, i.e. tanner is getting a little played out?

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

I really don't see any universal stereotype so to speak put on snowboarders. As a whole, it seems to me like the masses have a respect for what they do, much like the respect shown towards skateboarding, surfing, etc.. In certain regions it seems as though these stereotypes apply more, people are much less accepting of things in them.

Also it has a lot to do with the way the top athletes decide to portray themselves, a lot of the top snowboarders have the whole 'gangsta' style and to alot of people they put that label on snowboardign as a whole. But in response to the whole following snowboarders footsteps attitude wise it is because a lot of these people are the same. Just because Tanner Hall and Travis Rice decide to ride down the mountain in a different way doesn't neccesarily mean that they aren't similar. So basically what I am trying to say is that even though it may seem both the sports have the same sort of attitude, it is more or less that the more influental athletes have similar personalities and that is what the masses see. I doubt that made much sense since I just went on a tangent with no organization.

Help me get a Free Ipod and you will be my best friend

Hey, Thanks for saying that. That is pretty much EXACTLY what I'm trying to say.

'Wherever you go, there you are.'

i wrote a paper on this subject. skiing is following the same trend of snowboarding bc thats what made it so popular. i think its more of the extreme aspect that makes the sports more appelaing. and the life style is almost like skateboarding or snowboarding with movies, sessions, clothings, attitude and so on.

me and my friend who snowboards play horse in the park. basically backside = unnatural, both on rails and spins, and he's not allowed to do 50-50s

I think we will be different from snowboarders because we have skis, done and done. and so what if we are similar, if you care that much then i suggest you stop caring

Let us have a revolution

yah my friends and i play horse also, but his 50-50 is just a one foot 5050 for me, just so he is allowed to do it

Let us have a revolution

who cares

^^we should all proly care. we are the ones making the future of skiing so we can decide how it turns out. who knows, if tanner starded watching some curling videos, he might start crrying a broom down the hil making the snow in ront of him turn to ice so he goes faster. who knows??

Personally I dont think we wanna run into 'burton' with skiing.

Yes snowboarders are much more unrespected, because the general public associates them with urban skateboarders. Trick skiers havnt gotten enough press to be judged by the general public yet.

About the style,

Skiers are more styly. In every way.

Watch a snowboarder hit a big rail. They DONT lock on, they just ride it, some snowboarders I know have mad style, but most snowboarders Ive seen are clumsy peices of tard when it comes to style.

Aseep, when you compare your snowboarder friend's 50-50's, i think he has a slight advantage over your 5050's...just a though

-Dan

Of course snowboarders and skiers are separated by what they ride on, but in reality, we are the same. I hang out with a lot of snowboarders and they have the same attitudes as me and my skier freinds. We are all out on the mountain or at an urban rail looking for a good time and trying to push each other. I love watching snowboard movies because each individual rider can make their tricks look so unique in the way that they cork or grab, and that's something that skiiers are just starting to do. Skiers can learn a lot from snowboarders, and boarders can learn a lot from skiers, style wise, and otherwise.

To address your concern that skiers are becoming gangstas like snowboarders, not all pro snowboarders are gangsters, and neither are all pro skiiers. So if you want, respect the non-gansta ones, like Jussi Oksonen (sp?) or Ross Powers, and respect the nongangsta skiiers-there are quite a few.

By the way, snowboarders didn't invent baggy pants.

I'm enlightened..so ur saying skiers aren't snowboarders

Remember it's 10% equipment, 90% rider, and 0% what kinda jacket your wearing

I am a skier because skiing needs a future

^^^errr surely EXACTLY what we want for progression in the sport IS commercialisation: just because a sport becomes famous and has millions of $'s pumped into it, doesn't mean that it turns to shit: look at surfing.

man... oh man... i dont hate on people , so im not guna hate on you. BUT. Many snowbaorders are huge fagggots , but the sport is not. snowbaording is exactly why freeksing exists!!?!?!? dont you see htis , twin tips? snowboard... ? since skiing was based on it obviously its ungna follow some footsteps? secondly , snowbaording is much mroe advanced and steezie then skiing. The snowboarding movies are better, in most cases. If we could tkae al esson or two from the snowboarders that woudl be great for us. Thirdly , its people like you and snowbaording faggots who cause a war between skiers and snowboarders , because of your attitude towards snowboarding, we dont get along. Skiing and snowboarding is based on the sammmee people man, what you put under our feet doesnt change anything, we have the same attitude towards thigns in general and its one unified thing. Seperating it makes no sense, we shoudl be one big sport in colaboration. Theres only a select difference between boarding and skiing, boarding was EXTREMELY popular and still si so it has a bunch of poser kids who simpluyy do it to be cool and talk smack on skiers and shit, but stil lare you gunna judge a spot because some faggot kids joiend it? no dude, ignore them they are the downside of snowboarding. Honestly man, yopu shoudl start thinkign baout it , were the same kids who got influened differently or liked 2 instead of 1 , or 1 instead of 2 ( amount of boards on our feet) its all the same man , we need to stop this separation , its not a diferrent species of people, respect snowbaording its completly and utterly SICK and so is skiing. i probably forgot to mention a bunch of shit but i doubt any one is gunna read this anyways.

youre retarded, whats wrong with skiiers and snowboarders being almost one sport? one of the sickest things on snow is snowboarders and skiiers throwing down together, stoked on each other.

and im pretty sure snowboarders werent the first people to wear baggy clothes, asshole.

we came from a competitive backround (skiiers), so we were alittle more organized to begin with. then snowboarding came out of skiing, and was the rebelious thing to do. now that snowboarding is so popular, skiing is kinda rebel, but our infrastructure (fis, racing) is behind the times well the snowboarders have a very good adn prgressive setup not filled with anal retentive old people afraid of letting people have too much fun. freeze went as far as to support the snowboarding organization, saying that they realized the venues were the same, so why not let the skiiers compete too? we need some more of this attitude in skiing, of general acceptance

depending on my mood, you might get a nice thoughtful responce that might make sense, or you might get complete jibberish that is not wise to even read. good luck

well i really think it doesnt matter because what it all comes down to is the fact that we both love to ride the snow, who cares about all the technical shit. skiing is fun and snowboarding is fun. dont over think it, its really not worth it.
