Skier Superstitions

Before a huge jump, or something with serious consequences, I'll say the "Our Father" prayer. I'm not catholic, and never go to church, but I geuss it helps.

Also, before some runs I do a little shake, nothing noticeable but just to get the bad vibes out/

before i head out the door onto the slopes,

i like to do a 5 or so minute quick mediatation

clear the mind up and relax

also before hitting something i like to do it

My list:

Don't call last run

Skis on the right feet

I do a funny little hand wave thing every time I drop into a pipe

Knock on wood if I even think something bad...(and since wood is often lacking I usually just knock on my crotch)

When skiing a big BC line always ting poles with whoever drops first

I have a couple other motions I have to do before I drop into a nerve racking line or am trying something new on a jump

I'm sure I'm forgetting some just because they have become such habit. I'm generally not really superstitious but I have to do a lot of stuff skiing or I just won't feel right.

left pole on first, right pole second.

hang strap from wrist then grab pole over the strap. the CORRECT way to wear straps.

Dont ride the lift switch

Dont call last run

Always put your boots on the same way everyday (left or right first, same number of buckles, etc)

Always use pole straps

Don't snake a boarder, they like to jump on you.

Never ride the ganjola first run.

oh and my boots must always match up buckle wise. like 3 notches on this one, 3 on that one and then 3 on both of the top ones. it has to match up or i feel like a fish out of water when im skiing.

omg, dude you believe in the curse of the white lighter too.

whenever me and freinds use a white lighter.something bad always happens.so now we just chuck it if anyone says they have a white lighter.

same. you always, always ALWAYS have to use pole straps. its not comfortable without them and i would rather not drop a pole and hike up to get it. and same with the boot buckling thing, same amount of notches on each side. also, pterodactyl screams on the lift during night skiing over the cliff under the chair, never be the guinea pig for a new feature, never snowboard, always ski with gloves, idk how you cant. i put the "correct" ski on the "correct" foot but thats just because its the way i put my skis together and take them apart, which is always right over left (brakewise).

yup

And I can't eat pancakes/waffles/crepes before skiing. bad shit will happen if i do that

i have to put my skis on the same foot every time or i wont stop thinking about it.

this one isnt just superstition for skiers, but silent rock on the way to mt. hood. dont fuck aroud with that shit. we were on our way to hood, and this BZ was gabbin all through it and every one was deathly silent....she broke her collarbone that day. dont mess with silent rock.

ok, here's my OCD list:

skis on correct feet

poles in correct hand

if u chip ur laminate, 5 minute break..

none of the saying "run after the second to last run" (me bein OCD right now)

always click poles before startin a run

clip powder cords and vest, or ull lose ur skis, and get snow in ur jacket

whenever u see mass rental skis ( at my mt theyre yellow salomons), yell it out and slug the closest guy ur skiing w/ ex: YELLOW SALOMON!! -> ah!

murphy's law pretty much...

cool to see other people having their OCD moments

its like 2 miles away from the turn off if your coming from portland. its really noticeable, its like a 100-200 yard lil valley thing....rocks on both sides. just ask any local and theyll tell you to sdfu going past it.
