Skicross goes Olympic

Yesterday, the International Olympic Committee decided to make skicross an Olympic discipline. Therefore, it will be the first time in Vancouver 2010 when we can see this discipline on Olympic Games!!

How bout that?!?

The only qualm I ever have against skiercross is they still wear those speed suits... I say they do what snowboardcross does and wear just regular stuff... they arent going fast enough for long enough to where wearing a speed suit is going to give them that .000004 second advantage..

 
I think they still should make it more interesting by adding a shortcut on the course. But on this short cut is a really long rail over a big gap so you can make or break the race that would be interesting. then MAYBE i will watch the olympics

 
That would be interesting, but very dangerous.

They should have a big 70 footer in the middle and if you dont land anything over a 540 you have to ski the rest of the way backwards...
 
oh boy..... I guess it is the NASCAR's equivelent of the demolition derby. Any predictions on Rahlves going for it? I hope so, although I hate to see him wreck himself. Good guy..
 
Brilliant! Skiier cross is so lame,I'd rather whatch FIS races. But you're "high risk high reward" concept would really spice things up.
 
Why hate on skier cross? Just wondering why the thought of an additional event (that happens to be skiing) puts all your panties in wad?

I personally welcome the sport to the olympics and only hope that they do it right and have a seperate course from the boarders.

Mammoth did a high speed, downhill hybrid skier cross type race which was insane, 70++mph, four people at a time, HUGE rollers and major vertical drop. These snowboarder designed courses suck for skiers - short, small jumps, no passing oppurtunities.

What is not to enjoy about watching the crist brothers slay some roid freak ex-world cup euro jar heads??

wanna know why halfpipe skiing isn't in the olympics?

halfpipe skiing only has contenders from a handful of countries and isn't as prominant on the FIS tour. skiercross on the other hand is huge in europe and the world cup events get huge attention.

 
Skicross is not huge in Europe... In fact its more like where all the racer rejects from the downhill events go.

Its only allowed because the IOC is more respectful of racing events than events that have to do with anything freestyle or progressive.

Think about how long it took them to get the halfpipe event going... or any snowboard events period for the matter...
 
Are you kidding me? If they came out with some kind of freestyle bobsledding it would blow my mind... Not to mention.. going 100mph around wicked sharp ass turns and stuff is no easy task... I highly doubt most people could do all that...
