Ski Whistler for free???

Is it true that if you hike up the gondola you dont need a lift ticket cause they dont check them at the other lifts?

what the fuck? ive never been checked anywhere except right at the bottom. yeah its totally plausible but you'll probably get stopped on your way up. but if you can make it to garbanzo on whistler you should be fine

It's way easier to have 2 friends go up, 1 take off their pass and wait up top and the other take the other pass down with them and give it to you.

yeah, but ski patrol will ban you from the hill if they see you, and if you're hiking a groomer, they will see you.

I remember on opening at whis, this guy was hiking, and the people in the gondola yelled at him like the ski patrol. He actually fell over, and dropped his board. He was scared shitless, cuz he knew what a waste of time it would be if he was caught.

Some people make a trail in the summer in the trees, but other than doing that, likely wouldn't be worth it.

The only way it would be worth your time would be to skin up. But to avoid getting caught you'd have to be up at some ungodly hour. So you might as well go skin up some other mountain and ski pow.

Bottom line it's probably not worth your time nor getting banned if you get caught.

if you get caught couldnt you say that your trying to get into shape by hiking? And also say that your day ticket must have fallen off while you were hiking?

i'm pretty sure the ski patrol would notice the ski boots and skis, and that they're not stupid enough to buy that, but go ahead and try if you want. I'm not gonna stop you

well yeah but technically you are not allowed to use their lifts without a pass. This means you can be caught doing whatever you want on the ski slopes, as long as your not using their lifts. The ski pass is for use of their lifts, not for the privellege of walking on their tenure.

but while you were walking up and got caught you could say your pass fell off and you were going back to look for it.

My guess is it would take atleast 3 hours but more likely 4 to get to the midstation. I really doubt you could get 1000 ft an hour with all your ski stuff especialy if you do not have touring gear. and if you do have touring gear go climb a different mountain with pow on it like the guy above me said. This is probably the stupidest idea ever.

Why bother hiking Whistler?

At that point just go into the BC.

Hiking Whistler to use their park and avoid paying for a pass would be pathetic.

yeah this is really possible, it takes 45minutes - 1h to go up to the other lift and they never but never check.

It's called trespassing.

Unless the resort is on Public land, in which case you can hike as much as you'd like.

But if Whistler-Blackcomb/Intrawest own the property the mountain is on, you must buy a lift ticket or else you are trespassing.

wrong! at most mts when you buy a pass your buying the right to use the property. if not your truspassing because most ski areas are private property.

actually intrawest does not own the mountains its lifts are on. I believe that they hold the land as a tenure. Which is as far I know pretty much just permission to use crown land, they dont actually own it. So im pretty sure you can walk on their land all you want.

yeah but not everybody can afford lift ticket everyday at whistler, i know alot of kid who hiked on blackcomb. the 45 minutes walks isnt a big deal if you wake up early and u havent drank the night before. I heard that you can dinner for free, with a cup of hot water and 2 sack of ketchup making the best tomato soup.

wow man good dinner idea, i owe you one.

yeah i cant afford a 100 dollar lift ticket who here can fukinf afford that? thats like two days work at a a minimum wage job.

Nope. At my home mountain, the land is a forest service lease and you still can't hike. I'm not sure how it works (someone please elaborate?) but the land is completely under the jurisdiction of the ski area. Otherwise you would have snowmobilers all over, right?

there are a few ways of poaching to get up.

1) drive to the top of Brio and hike up the mountain biking trails. it Is a 90 minute hike.

2) Snake the gondola line when the lifties aren't looking. This works especially well on the blackcomb gondola by the stairs.

3) get some scissors or nail clippers and snip someones pass off in the lift-line when they are not looking. this won't even screw that person over because of the lost lift ticket system intrawest has

yeh all these ways work I poached for almost a whole season a few years ago, just cliped ticke, snaked the gondola and bought tickets on powder days when i didnt wanna wait. it saved me almost 2 thousand bucks , but word to the wise dont get caught...

I never said I did not have a lift ticket or pass, I am just saying I did not pay, you need some skill. Stealing tickets and walking up under the lift are about as subtle as hitting some one it the face with a baseball bat.

I need some skill? fuk off. You cant even tell me how to ski whistler for free. As far as im concerned you got no skill at all.

I've thought about it before. it would be a bitch to walk up tho.

why don't you just ski mountain creek new jersey? - they never check lift tickets!

I did it at vail one time. I hiked up to a mid-mountain lift and they never check except at the base. We hiked up one of the steep trails on the front side and it kind of sucked. ski patrol came and we just said we were hiking up to a jump one of our friends made just up ahead. they bought it and just kept going down. I didn't really think that was much of a miracle till I read this thread.
